    The first thing I always check is the kill switch, it's very easy to knock it to the 'on' position and not notice. I read a story where one bloke walked for two hours back to his house, because his bike wouldn't start when he was out on his own in the wilderness. He then got his mate to give him a lift back to his stricken bike, so he could get it back home. When they arrived his mate took one look, flicked the kill switch back to the 'off' position, and started the bike! 🙄

    I've had an srad standing for a long time...over 6months easy. Maybe a few years. That's at least a quarter to half a tank of fuel in there with a stabiliser but I want to completely drain the tank! What is the best and easiest way to completely drain the tank before I put nice fresh fuel in there?
    I will also be removing the carbs and opening them up to do a full clean of the carbs and clean all the jets too.
    She was running before i took the tank, and airbox off. She would run to about 7-8k revs then bog after that...I imagine it's a carb blockage so hopefully after a good inspection and clean she will be good to go again!👍🏼

    Instead of putting a bike in "hibernation", is taking it out for a 15 minute ride once a week during the winter months a good idea to keep everything running smoothly?✌🏽

    • @christians131
      @christians131 Год назад +1

      As a former tech, I think that’s that best way to go about “winterization” lol. If you can get it up to speed, put 4 or 5mi on it (enough to get coolant and oil to operating temp) that’s ideal but it’s probably easier said than done for people who live in very cold climates and it’s unsafe to ride

    petrol loses ocatne over time, after about 3 months you notice the difference, harder start and takes longer to warm up and level out, also E-petrol absorbs water, ethanol is hyrdoscopic, this means it absobrs water out the air, one pint of ethanol can absorb 1 pint of water if left long enough, so water absorbstion and ocatne reduction is the No1 problem for poor starting after being laid up over winter, the solution is, drain the tank before storage, squirt WD40 or simular in the tank and seal the tank filler cap with cling film, come spring just fill the tank and drain the carbs, dont let the carbs stand over winter dry as that will damage the rubber seals and encourage that white mould that grows on the copper jets, another good thing to do if not using a bike over winter is to seal the exhausts up, again cling film is an easyway to do that, a rubber bung is good if you have ones that fit, sealing the exhaust stops them from rusting inside out, exhausts fill up with condensed water over the winter and can have a cup full in them in just 3-5 months, how cold and damp is your garage/shed ! a squirt of WD40 down them prior to storage wont do any harm,
    N/B The best solution is to start the bike once a week and let it tick over for 10 minutes, turn the fuel off then after 20 seconds cut the ignition, in that order 🏍

    Me riding to a shop to buy something.
    Goes back to the bike and starts it all lights on, dash on etc., press the starter button, starter buzz/whirs a bit but then just plane silence.
    Tested new battery, press starter button and just one click sound and nothing.
    What I did notice though 2-3 days before the bike just did not start is that. Everytime you press the starter button, it does its usual whirring sound and cranks the bike and starts the bike, But the whirring sound you hear when you press the starter button whirrs 1-2 times right after the engine properly starts.
    Like literally engine starts like normal. Then you hear 1-2 whirrs or buzz after. Same whirring or buzzing start when you press the starter button.
    I could not hear it for a long while cause I always started it with a helmet on. I only then realize it did it when I started the bike without any helment.
    Usually the starter whirring stops just as the engine cranks up.

My Yamaha fazer 1000 was on side stand for 2 years, got a new battery and still won't start, the problem is the tip over/ bank angle sensor, the sensor got stuck laying on the left side for 2 years, remove it and shake left and right, or put silicone to make it stay in place, check the tip over sensor especially you kept it for many months unused.

    my bike doesn't start, it cranks, but only starts if i give throttle, it's a FI bike, not fuel problem, i changed out the fuel, changed new fuel pumps and filters, change the battery, and of course tried to jump start as well, it only still cranks, had also changed the throttle position sensor, but i have no idea how to check if it's working or not, also had changed the air filter, also changed the spark plug and check the ignition coil, and everything is working well. my bike is a benelli tnt25 2016 with only 1 piston. even if it starts, it will die out in 5 seconds, and stalls easily while taking off

    What if it wont start with the switch, but starts with the kick start, but cuts out when going to idle? Would this be the starter motor? Thanks

    • @bennettsbikesocial
      @bennettsbikesocial  7 месяцев назад +2

      Hard to diagnose online but logic says... If it starts on the kickstart, it might be the starter button. But if it then stalls on idle it could either be something in the low-engine-speed or cold start fuelling (maybe a problem with the choke if it has one) or perhaps an issue with the battery. If the starter button turns the engine over without starting then it's probably not the battery. Does the engine idle if you rev it (or ride it )for long enough to get it warm? If so, it's probably the choke. Hope that helps.

      If you're a new rider, get the Guzzi less power (but fast enough) less maintenance as shaft drive, reasonably good handling and looks great, good resale values. If you're a reasonably experienced rider I'd go for the Speed Twin, haven't ridden one yet but appears to be a fantastic bike. If you like a traditional looking bike with modern performance and handling id be looking at the the new Triumph Trident
