The USC drive starting at 32:14 is just phenomenal. Michigan plays really good defense for the first three plays, but perfect passes and great catches takes USC 80 yards downfield in a flash. Not much you can do, just tip your cap to the offense.
Besides the championship year they couldn’t help but lose at least 1 game every year to a mediocre team no matter how great they were. Which kept putting them in the Rose Bowl. During this time the bowl games were pretty much set with just 2 conferences especially the BCS bowls. Like the Rose Bowl was strictly a PAC10 vs BIG10 game. And the Sugar Bowl was always the SEC vs whoever else could make it

So many pros on the field. USC Linebackers had literally 3 NFL guys. Michigan had a ton of talent as well. Michigan's D played well. USC finally made enough plays to win. It literally felt like watching an NFL game.

This was a very good Michigan team. So much so that it was the ONLY Michigan team during Carroll's peak years at USC whose talent we could reasonably call "comparable" to USC's. But USC had the craftier coaching staff. Superior offensive game planning (never a strength under Carr) and better qb play really made the difference in the second half. Michigan's long and regrettable tradition of losing Rose Bowls didn't help either.
What was stunning is how SC only needed to eke by UCLA to get to the Fiesta Bowl, and couldn’t stop the bRuin pass rush, yet performed very well against a great Michigan front 4.
Good game. Michigans defense finally wore down. USCs defense was loaded. Both teams had pros everywhere. 3-3 game midway thru the 3rd quarter. 19-11 with 12 minutes to go.
Yeah, I don't get how with the benefit of replay you still don't get the call right. You can see at 18:32 that the knee is not down yet and the ball is loose. Has to be a fumble or an incomplerion. I feel like instant replay has made refs dumber
This was the year the media was hyping up a possible BCS NC game rematch between OSU and Michigan as OSU was undefeated in the regular season and Michigan's only loss was to them by 3 points. Thank God this didn't happen as both of these teams were exposed in their bowl games. USC that year had 2 losses prior to this game but dominated the second half over heavily favored Michigan. OSU went on to get creamed by Florida 41-14.
