The SR2500 gross weight is 3000 pounds. The moose is 3500 pounds. Mainly to accommodate the installation of the M14P radial. The VNE was also raised for higher horse power. The main gear was beefed up and is 33% stronger.
Man, such an awesome video. Thx Mike! This is my dream plane, but with floats and the Radial engine. Ive been looking for a tour of one and u nailed it. If you ever get your hands on a Murphy Yukon, I'd love to get your take on that too. Cheers! Thx Mike, again man.
See. This is why I fux with MojoGrip Mike. He brings attention to planes I've never heard of and now consider as options. Never heard of a Murphy Moose and now I can find an experimental plane that's probably bigger than a 182 at 1/3 the cost. One I can put a LS3 or 3.0 audi/VW diesel in without having to worry about rendering my aircraft uncertifiable.
If the Murphy burns roughly 15GPH at 250hp. I bet the fuel burn is 8-9 gph with the LS3 at 425hp and probably 6-8 GPH with a Audi 3.0 biturbo diesel rated at 295hp-325hp
there's a guy on u tube who put a corvette engine in his plane i don't remember what it was but it was a large experimental murphy also has 4 seat versions
The Super Rebel SR2500 actually has a 3,000 lbs gross weight. I’m building serial number 131. I went up with factory pilot Robin Dyck in that very airplane around the year 2000.
@@angeletsoler I was wondering about that I know the BH 5 is a 6 place and larger than a 185. I love the utility aspect of the those designs for a remote workhorse plane

Hey Mike, I'm a student pilot out of KLZU, and I'm thinking of getting a sling for myself, would you be able to message me about information and advice about the plane please?
I want Mike to do a video about prop blades. For example, this Murphy Moose only has two blades! But even smaller planes have three, or sometimes four blades! I know it has something to do with weight vs. inertia, blah, blah, blah. But it all, like a plane is, "over my head." I need a basic lesson on this! Sorry to be so stupid!
Hey Mike. I'm looking for a 6 seater airplane and I'm trying to do some research to find out which ones will have low maintain cost and and good fuel for cross country. Any suggestions?
With enough wind you can takeoff with 0 feet. And his flag is displayed backwards. Really nice aircraft though! Except for the interior. What was going on with that?
5:19 what is that door's purpose behind the fuselage? Is it a jail? If one passengers becomes naughty, captain lock him in that cell. Yes, captains have that right.
yeah for big engined experimentals, why not use a typical big dumb US V8? and just a slightly smaller prop and run it direct at say 4000rpm. slap a turbo on. should work great. maybe a ford ecoboost type thing even. or a european turbodiesel. I hear they have some surplus of those
@@DanFrederiksen I want some of what you're smoking dude... aircraft engines do not fail left and right as you say. Yes, there are aircraft engines that are historically known for points of failure. There are airplanes out there that are known for their reliability, but thats if you take the time to do the proper research. Ask any aircraft mechanic and they will tell you the most reliable engine of all time is a Lycoming O-320/360 WIDE DECK. If I were you I would buy an airplane with an engine as described. Very, Very Nice! 😎👍
With everything that Mike told us about, I was most taken with the crystal clarity of the windshield. The owner really has this plane shining.
Wow! The family car! Flying station wagon. Cool!
Or lifted 4x4 suburban!
The F350 4x4 Camper Special of the Sky lol ; )
Yeah, sweet SUV of the sky
It is a good value for the money. It might make a great plane for taking hunters or fishermen to some remote areas.
Great video. Like how interested and passionate you are about all sorts of planes. Makes it entertaining to watch regardless of the plan owned.
Love that IO540!
Always been a fan of Murphy's moose aircraft.

Could you do a Murphy moose vs Bearhawk model 5 video? 😇🤓
That 0-540 is great because this one is derated which gives it a 2400 TBO if I’m not mistaken, same engine in the Comanche 250.
Thanks! I've been dreaming about this airplane for years.

Lots of air in the hydraulic brake hoses, it needs some bleeding!! Great video and great plane.
Excellent presentation
As always Mike, I love your videos! Keep them coming!
It would be awesome on floats...
I would love to see a comparison between a Murphy moose and a Barrows Bearhawk 4/5
Perhaps It 'd be more fair a comparison with the Murphy Yukon, as it is a 4 place airplane like the Bearhawk. The Moose it' s huge!!

Hi Mike ! which experimental stol kit aircraft has a load space close to a Pilatus 6 porter?
Mike! I saw what appears a crinkle at the vertical tail fin! Is that normal? Please let us know!

Looks to me like the fuselage has flex in front of the tail assembly. I could be wrong, but i would be very inspected minded in that area.
Nice review! Can you do one about the Seamax? Maybe do a comparison between the Seamax, Icon A5 and Super Petrel

Cessna 206's seem to be popular for those reasons, but they are extremely expensive.
