There is a massive problem with blue-green algae in Lough Neagh in Ireland right now- I'm really glad you've covered this as so many people on my local social medias REALLY underestimate the danger, so I can now link this video as a reference in those discussions lol. I'm also glad you covered that it's really cyanobacteria- I was always confused because spirulina is ALSO colloquially called blue-green algae and I know that's in lots of pet products! Good to finally understand the difference 😅
Thank you so much! I hope that testing can be done on the blue green algae currently in Lough Neagh to find out if there are any toxin producing cyanobacteria present. I really appreciate you sharing the video with people who could use the information, that means a lot to me 💜🐾
Wow. I didn't know this. It's really scary. And this is really important for people who engage in Dock Diving (if using a "natural" body of water) and those who allow their dogs to swim in natural bodies of water. I'm kind of glad I don't have dogs that love to swim! And here I thought you only had to worry about dogs drinking tainted water was giardia. Boy was I wrong.
Blue-green algae is awful!!! Thankfully, you can usually see or smell that there's an issue with the water, it's just that people need to know what to look for (both with the water and for symptoms that pop up after an exposure)! From my interactions with clients, it seems that most people don't know when/what to look out for, so I thought I better cover the topic in a video!
@@VetMedCorner thank you so much! I carry water, and never let my dogs drink out of puddles. I've always done this because there are a lot of people in my area who work on their cars, and antifreeze leaks are a real possibility. I also don't let my dogs jump in water or walk too near the edge, because we have gators. So for me, there's no real change other than being more aware of what's in the water. Ages ago, when I wasn't caring for other peoples dogs and I had my own, we'd go camping and of course they had to swim in every stream we came across. But it was a lot cooler then. I suspect that's why cyanobacteria wasn't as much of a problem back then.
@@VetMedCorner it's not a worry. It's just something to be aware of. I leave the gators alone, and they leave me alone. Don't let a toy poodle hang out at the waters edge and you won't have any problems.
Hi! Very informative video as always. You may have already covered this, but if not, could you cover dental health in dogs and the different products on the market for dental health (treats, water additives, foams, toothpastes, etc). Also the chew toys available on the market like nylabone and Kong?
Thank you so much for asking!!! I've got a dental series, let me grab it for you! Very informative! Thank you
You're welcome 💜

@nsv674 I've never lived anywhere that we had to worry about gators, and I am very grateful for that!!!

@@VetMedCorner thank you!! Your in depth explanations give me so much relief for this anxious pet mama
@@VetMedCorner oh I have one more question! Do you have any info on BHA and other preservatives that pet parents are worried about?
I have not done a video on that topic yet - let me add it to my list!
