People in NA, UK and EU don't realise how lucky they are. I used to work as a telecom engineer and made 4k USD and then as an SDE 2 at Oracle for 10k USD a year in India. If I were to do that in the US, I would make x20 that.
Indian regulatory laws are so dumbfound, their mob mentality wont let companies come in or progress to happen. Just so much talk for becoming the world's largest economy by 2050. This country is going nowhere.

That’s a bit surprising, as an L4 (entry level) at Amazon, I make $180k(seattle/cali), which is broken down as $130k base, $45k Sign on bonus, and like $5k RSU (very little in first year).
I use to think Google will pay you a lot more or at least around the same amount, and looked forward to joining it (bc of the assumed pay and thought it would be more chill 😂)
Now I wonder if these tech RUclipsrs are lying when they see they have received an offer with total comp of $300k, $360k (like jomatech and some other RUclipsrs have said)… those amounts are probably for senior levels or above and managers.. (or I thought that’s probs google)
But hey appreciate you for sharing your salary, something almost no one does. Please share more about your day of life on Google. Like are there standups everyday? Do you have to present or demo frequently? Do you have to participate in a lot of design reviews in a room of several seniors, and what’s that process like (is it scary)

L4 is Amazon’s entry-level SWE role. L5 pay band can is 250k-350k in the US if memory serves me right. You don’t need to be senior to get 350k TC but you do need a few years of experience

    • @-_____-
      @-_____- 5 месяцев назад +8

Also, Amazon’s levels are inflated compared to Google. An L4 in Amazon is comparable to an L3 at Google.

    • @xPussySlayerx69420
      @xPussySlayerx69420 5 месяцев назад +14

300k for L4 which was the case for Joma is believable. Freshly promoted people at Google will not immediately see their higher compensation until after they get a full promoted equity refresher (which can take up to 1 year depending on timing), and you also have to wait until the grants from the previous years are replaced with your promoted refresher grants. New hires get that level grant immediately.
When I got promoted to l4 at Google my TC was just under 200k but a few years later it was 310k at the same level.

I’m surprised these are the figures in Seattle tbh. I’m based in Canada and I always assumed the figures would be way higher there. Due to inflation (especially housing inflation), these figures look very high raw but in the context of housing costs, it’s really just meh. You can afford to buy a house after a few years but you’re not getting rich even on these salaries for several decades.
There’s a reason they’re paying 18k for 10 week internships and probably relocation.
The purchasing power in that location really does matter. In Toronto in 2019, companies would try to pay $70k or $80k CAD salary at most but with the recent housing affordability, that’s extremely low if you’re trying to rent anywhere now. The houses cost $1.2 million in the suburbs On the low end with a 7% interest rate. That’s way too much for average wages. Won’t even be able to qualify for any mortgage without a substantial down payment of like $500k.

@@letmeseeunot sure if you have a job but TC usually doesn’t include benefits such as 401k and health insurance. These are worth a ton in the US. Also interns are NOT worth 50 dollars an hour to begin with lol (unless they accept return offers and work for a year or two). Most don’t do anything speaking from experience and get paid a ton of money just to train them a bit and get them to accept return offers. No intern’s work over 8-10 weeks will recoup the 30-50k spent to onboard them (this is hyperbole I’m sure at least one has). Remember the Twitter intern who was tasked to fix the algorithm or something? Clearly he didn’t do that or anything useful in his 8 weeks.
Where having interns is good for companies is the ease of recruiting full time employees which costs a lot of money. It’s much easier to send return offers than to recruit on LinkedIn.
If you also don’t know 100k is a lot of money for new grads and only a few companies paid 150-250k for entry level in 2019.

I’m not a SWE, I’m a UX Researcher and I actually feel a lot better after seeing this video.

But going from an internship extension at 50k, to a Google contract at 77k and then my first FTE salary at 120k + 15% yearly bonus and a 3 year tiered RSU of $3,500 capping at $10,500 yearly (after 3 years) at an ancient healthcare Corp isn’t too shabby. Now that I maxed my RSU vest my TC after 4 years of merit is 165k and I feel like it’s under payed not seeing a promotion in that time.
Maybe I should be grateful, but I’m looking around to see what offers are out there.

Really regret doing aerospace engineering. Back when I was considering my major I took a look at salaries and median for aerospace was $109k and comp sci was $104k. $5,000 made me choose the wrong path lol. I only make $185k now at age 27, but that's basically the top end for aerospace engineers. Top level engineers that are 60+ years old only make about $200k - $250k maximum if they're lucky. Entry level programmers make more than me and can earn over $1 million salary. I'm seriously considering jumping ship lol.

where do u work that they’re paying 185k for aero and what i’m assuming is 4 years experience??

@@johnstewart5221 I’m a DoD government contractor. My role actually requires 8 years of specialized experience with 12 years overall experience, but they reached out to me I guess because it’s hard to find people with active clearances and relevant degrees. Before this job, I worked entry level at $75k.

@@Gin-mz5wo my government contract is unstable lol. It’s a 1 year contract with 4 optional years. Usually the government pays those option years, but there’s no guarantee they will. And those option years get decided on each year, so they could do it year 1 and cancel the other 4, or do year 1 and 2, then cancel the other 3, etc.
That’s kinda why I’d rather be in software. Even if I only worked at FAANG for 1 year and I made $400k as a mid-level developer, I’d have enough saved to be unemployed for at least 3 years just off that job the way I save money. I save over half of my income now because I live frugally.

$3800 / 13 = 292.30 292.30 would be houw many hours you worked every two weeks.
292.30 / 14 = 20.87 which would be how many hours per day you worked
    20 to 21 hours a day ..... :/
