A good video about one of the most beautiful, lovely and interesting cities of Poland,a great country with great people.Greetings and appreciations from Romania.
I live in Toruń and it's amazing how little do people appreciate those amazing sites when they have contact with them on a day to day basis. This video makes me want to go out to the city centre, or as we call it in Polish starówka and experience those beautiful buildings, walkways and everything else once more. I'm gonna write down my observations regarding everything you talk about/show down here as I'm watching: 1. Jan Olbracht is an amazing restaurant with years of tradition and is famous for their beers in Toruń. If you ever come back to Poland in the winter, I'd strongly recommend coming back to Jan Olbracht for mulled gingerbread beer. It's delicious and really can warm you up on a cold evening. 2. The hotel you were staying at - Copernicus Hotel is really nice, but there is a much nicer one, even closer to the centre, it's called Hotel Bulwar, I'd highly recommend that for your future trips. 3. The church in the background in 6:55 offers free supper for those who want to come, it's right after the evening mass every sunday. 4. The whole thing of Toruń being the city of gingerbread is kinda a meme around here, but NGL I'm snacking on some gingerbread right now :D 5. The statue of Copernicus got dressed in a tie-dye shirt, hat, and he got a pair of sunglasses for piernikalia (a holiday for students in May known for parties, BBQs at the dorms, and loads of students that are dressed in funny ways). I got to see it and it was hilarious. 6. From my experience I could recommend visiting Manekin - a pancake restaurant that originated in Toruń and is slowly expanding to other parts of Poland such as Bydgoszcz, Poznań and Gdańsk. It's always full of college students, because the food although being quite cheap is really, really good. Come to Toruń again and we will welcome you, as is tradition in Poland, with salt and bread. Loved the video, thanks for putting it out there
I'm loving your tour of Poland! Thanks for taking us with you. I can't wait until I can visit myself. Torun reminds me of Brugges, Belgium in that it is an intact medieval city; however, Brugges is very busy with tourists. Torun looks to be equally beautiful! I love the story of the villagers kicking the Teutonic Knights out, and then toppling the castle so they wouldn't come back. I also enjoyed the leaning tower of Torun. Who knew there was another leaning tower besides the one in Pisa?! OMG, coincidentally, I fell in love with plums this past summer, too, and baked a wonderful late summer plum cake a few of weeks ago! Delicious with a nice cup of tea.
What an amazing city with such a rich and interesting history! This seems like like a place definitely worth visiting. You and Marc are great storytellers! Love your videos! Keep up the great work :)
This is the best video ever about Torun! Congratulations - so many special attractions and you make it all so interesting with your stories. First I think the pigeons are very cute in this video- especially the ones drinking out of the frog fountains. The leaning tower made me chuckle out loud and the ancient bricks takes ones breath away to have survived for so many centuries. I'm with you about the gingerbread design. So much more romantic a tale! Thanks as always Eileen and Marc for taking us along on your adventures. Torun deserves many visitors!
Hi Eileen Aldis. I am glad you are loving the city which surprisingly isn't as touristy a place as it deserves to be. Personally it is one of my favourite places in Poland and now you are bringing it up. Thanks and keep it up. You are a lovely couple. Congratulations!
Hey Eddie! Thank you! :) Lots more Poland videos on the way. I'm not surprised to hear this is one of your favourite spots in Poland. I can definitely see why. I'm floored that there aren't bunches of tourists. Do you have a favourite part of Toruń?
Guys you are amazing. Eileen a lot of respect to you for educating yourself before visiting a city. Many vloggers can't say a thing about the place they're visiting or they come up with some funny stuff. You on the other hand, know what you're talking about You're showing that you've actually read about the place that you are visiting.Thank you very much for the content!
It's adorable how you find and show those little accents of our surrounding which we usually don't even notice while passing by. The pigeons for example, so many of them everywhere, dirty little pests, but you found them drinking water from the golden frog's, amazing. I love to watch your videos, you adorable Canadians :D.
I'm a Pole and I know most of the places you visited but nobody's ever told me so much about those places as you have. Thank you so much!!! Watching your videos makes me one thought come to my mind: I love you and I'd like to be around you all the time to make my life more attractive and beautiful. You're full of joy, optimism and openhearted. I love you so much!!!! You're the best!!! I have a friend in Toronto and she is so wonderful and I like her so much. I guess people from Canada are so gorgeous like you are!!! :-)
I love Toruń! Before the Teutonic Mill was restored and made into a hotel, the building housed several small 1 or 2 room apartments, my mother was born in one of those apartments. This means so much to us, thank you ❤️
Very nice story about my city. Thank you! It is true that Torun didn't suffer much neither from the German nor from the Russians, at least not during the crazy 20th century. However it suffered heavy damages from... difficult to believe now - Swedes. Especially during a heavy artillery bombardment in 1703. They caused severe damages to the Town hall among many other buildings. Actually it's never been fully recovered since.
I have never been to Toruń but that means next time I’m in Poland have to go there . Thank you so much for these vlogs I see you are really getting around Poland . ❤️
Thanks, Elizabeth! Yes a great Polish adventure and more videos coming :) I do hope you'll be able to visit Toruń on your next trip - it's beautiful and so historic.

if you like plums you need to try "powidła" its polish jam made of plums . the best with fresh bread for breakfast. This is one of the kind local jam very popular in Poland
Actually yes, it's an old memory. I was treated to some during a visit to Soviet occupied Poland with my Polish born parents to visit our family in the late 1960s. I'm Canadian born, so I was accustomed to the sugary sweets here. I didn't really like the Kopernik. But the childhood memory of Copernicus' house, especially his study, remains burned in my mind. It's too bad they didn't record the interior.
Toruń otrzymał prawa miejskie od Niemców w grudniu 1233 r. Kopernik urodził się na ulicy świętej Anny około dwadzieścia lat przed tym jak Kolumb odkrył Amerykę
We're obsessed with plums ;) We have many orchards with plums. We make jams and drinks from them ... And we also make something like jam "powidła śliwkowe", but they are less sweet and more durable. Plums are very healthy, have a lot of natural fiber. You can't eat them too much because you may have stomach problems.
In general , masses of pigeons are nuisance. However, if we have a close look at an individual bird they are pretty cute. And the scene with pigeons drinking from the frog's mouth is just awesome.

Yeah you did a great job, it seems like there's a lot of research that goes behind this. Well done. I make different types of vlogs, if you have a second you should check them out!@@EileenAldis
Where my peeps are from! My Grandfathers parents come from here. My grandfather was born in the U.S. in 1898. His father was born in 1850! His father was born in 1820 and my 3rd great grandfather was born in 1798 in this beautiful city! 😍
Great historical place -bit like York which I used to live near in England- a plum dish how about plum duff-love gingerbread men in the shops in England around Bonfire Night
I live in beautiful old Wroclaw, but Torun has its unique atmosphere. The whole world is open to such unusual "American" tourists - sensitive, friendly and interesting. I would especially build for you many such old historic buildings and come up with new authentic national dishes. Not plastic, of course.
I reccomand you Jan Olbracht brewery (with an gingerbread beer) and their nice and cosy apartments upstairs - this is not an advert ... I really, really enjoyed that place! :)
Oh, I'm so happy you've seen Toruń, it's one of the most beautiful Polish towns! Haha, the hearts and rings version is actually more realistic because the traditional gingerbread dough doesn't grow at all during baking, so no matter how close you put the cookies together they wouldn't become one :) Have you seen the wooden moulds in the museum (I believe they were at -1 floor)? What would be the point of carving such intricate shapes if the dough was to expand? All the details would disappear! And sorry to break it to you, but Katarzynki is the closest you can get to the real thing from big brands today, not the sugar-glazed hearts :) As a culinary geek and a Pole I am appalled by what people dare to call a gingerbread these days :P
Thank you for this video 😍😍. You depicted my hometown beautifully. I don't have many occasions to visit it, so I miss it dearly. Also it was wonderful to see it from perspective of an outsider because I was used to its beauty, so it was kind of wasted on me 😁😁. Moreover, it put my architectural beauty reception bar very high and I have some problems enjoying other cities - they all look ugly in comparison. Fortunately I found my place in Edinburgh which is in many aspects similar to Torun (including the fact of being on UNESCO list).
Thank you for your lovely comment! It means a lot knowing it's your hometown. What a beautiful place to grow up. I can see how you'd become accustomed to beauty and great architecture :) Glad you've found a new home you love in Edinburgh. Do you go back to Poland often? We've made a bunch of other videos there if you'd like to see more: bit.ly/PolandPlaylist Would also love to hear any recommendations you have.
Very pleasantly, that you tour Toruń. I am happy, that Toruń pleases You. This my city, I be bore here and I live here. I live near town hall. They lived here my, great grandfathers, grandfathers and parents. I be please very, that you can see how our ancestors lived. Toruń this my sweethearts city and I gladden oneself, that you play so well and you feel in Toruniu. I greet warmly : Raymond de SP2EEF.
hey have you heard of color grading? I think you could really make your footage look ton better than it already is with color grading. Its basically when you edit or adjust the colors in your footage to look more appealing if i had to explain it simply. I don't really know how to explain it, but I color grade all of my videos, and i happened to put a really heavy color grade on my last vlog about the poppy fields thing. If youre interested in seeing what color graded footage looks like, take a peep, I could help answer some questions for you if you have any. I'm a film major so this is my type of thing
So what do you think of the pigeons: cute or no?

Mieszkam w Toruniu, pozdrawiam;)))
I love that place 💛💛💛💛 So mutch and yes the leaning tower is very very famous :) I’m happy you like it 🥰🥰 Thank you 😊 the pierniki (Ginger bread) are amazingly good. And each year we have a festival which celebrates Festival of Lights 💝👻 Next time go and visit “Pierogarnia” Please :)
We'd love to come back and explore more - that festival sounds lovely :)
@@EileenAldis Yeah, that's Bella Skyway Festival (these lights)

Hello! 👋
Thank you for all these great stories, I feel like I learned a lot LOL
Glad you enjoyed it :)
Yeah you did a great job, it seems like there's a lot of research that goes behind this. Well done. I make different types of vlogs, if you have a second you should check them out!@@EileenAldis

@@EileenAldis being in my city right now.just for a while. lil' taste before my come back:)
Where my peeps are from! My Grandfathers parents come from here. My grandfather was born in the U.S. in 1898. His father was born in 1850! His father was born in 1820 and my 3rd great grandfather was born in 1798 in this beautiful city! 😍
Hi Heather! Thank you for sharing your family connection! That is very interesting. Have you been able to visit?
Great historical place -bit like York which I used to live near in England- a plum dish how about plum duff-love gingerbread men in the shops in England around Bonfire Night
I've been to York once! It was so pretty!
Haha I'd just wrote it and 5 sec. later you entered that place 😂😂😂
haha I'm glad you enjoyed it too! You and Marc even both ordered the gingerbread beer :)
Wszystko fajnie. Gdzie Podkarpacie?
❤️ from 🇵🇱:)
❤️

Mieszkam w Toruniu
I am at the moment in toruń 💓💓
Have fun!
hey have you heard of color grading? I think you could really make your footage look ton better than it already is with color grading. Its basically when you edit or adjust the colors in your footage to look more appealing if i had to explain it simply. I don't really know how to explain it, but I color grade all of my videos, and i happened to put a really heavy color grade on my last vlog about the poppy fields thing. If youre interested in seeing what color graded footage looks like, take a peep, I could help answer some questions for you if you have any. I'm a film major so this is my type of thing
Toruń Polska perełka a do tego ta wspaniała dwójka. 😉
