Hey Guys, our full written reviews are online. Please follow the links below for more details about the Asus ROG M16: English-Review: www.notebookcheck.net/Asus-ROG-Zephyrus-M16-2023-laptop-review-RTX-4090-with-a-super-bright-Mini-LED-display.702260.0.html German-Review: www.notebookcheck.com/Asus-ROG-Zephyrus-M16-2023-im-Laptop-Test-RTX-4090-mit-super-hellem-miniLED-Display.692993.0.html
Even though M16's performance is hard to against ROG Scar or G series, it's portability is designed for a plenty of customers. I guess MSI stealth 14 studio or stealth 15 would be the strongest competitor this year. If possible, can you also take a review on stealth 14 in the future video, especially for the pure white one. Thank you.
@@kennysponto6568 Nope, only select m16's actually. By going to their website, and to the gaming laptops, the tech specs page lists which do and do not have Anime Matrix.
@@NotebookcheckReviews how does miniled add the price? Didn't they just flip the anime matrix leds towards the screen for extra brightness? Or that's the case for just the g14 2023?
With this insane price, it's better to get the blade 16 this year for premium thin & light gaming laptop. The blade 16 has 13950hx and 175w 4090 while being only 0.2 kg heavier compare to M16's top spec.
Yes but the problem with razer blade is the bloated battery because i got a razer blade 15 and after about the year, the battery has expanded twice it's original size
Great review as usual guys! While it does look like the perfect machine, at this price point it seems better to consider Blade 16, or maybe even Zephyrus Duo.
In terms of a 16 inch laptop with an almost full wattage GPU, this is pretty much up there. HX doesn't offer too much of a performance unless you want those extra E-cores. Still, it's solid, but the mini-LED is probably only offered by the higher end 4090. Hopefully the 4080 can be paired with that panel too. I think for a thin laptop, this is as good as it gets.
It is an insane amount of power in such a compact chassis. That said, performance differences between this and the Neo 16 or Titan are sometimes very significant. The 4080 model also comes with the MiniLED panel, and I think that is the config to get!
@@NotebookcheckReviews I guess there's that on the performance side and good thing too having the 4080 for the mini-LED. I think that's what people should aim for if they desire. Overall thin and light definitely have the power enough to justify its higher asking price. I hope we can get more of these in the future.
Did you really see a significant difference of double the Dimming Zones compared to X16? Would be great to know some little detail after you've mentioned in the video. Which one do you prefer personally, X16 or M16? I'm wondering whether to buy X16 2022 3070 Ti, X16 2023 4070 or M16 2023.
It depends on your needs,if touchscreen is necessary, the answer is clear but if not, go for the m16, is good to have the latest hardware available if you can afford it. But sometimes is just not necessary. Talking from my experience with the M16 even the starting model is more than plenty.
We have that data already and it will be on the website very soon! There is just so much I can show in a video since I do not want them to be 30mins ;)
Just ordered ASUS ROG Strix SCAR 17, WQHD 240hz 17,3“ Display, RTX 4090 16GB Vram, Ryzen9 7945HX, 32 GB RAM, 2 TB SSD For "only" 3300€ / 3500$. I think that is a very fair price for the the given specs and power. It's a way better power per buck ratio then the old generation laptops. The 4090 mobile is better than the highend desktop gpu from 30s gen with only one third of the power used. Had to go with the Ryzen bc of the high power increase within AMD CPUs. The 7945HX will be a good choice next to the highest Intel with less power used. Since the 7845 with 33% less cores than its higher Brother is only 10 percents behind the 13980HX Intel. Can't wait to see the 7945HX RYZEN on the channel.
That does sound like an excellent machine for a "good" price. I am with you. The performance you get from a "big" laptop 4090 is pretty sweet. Can't wait to take those new Ryzens for a spin, either!
I think the M16 is better paired with a 4070, if you're willing to pay to get a 4090 you should consider other laptops, a 4090 in the M16 is not worth it.
The problem is that an RTX 4070 is only on par with the RTX 3070 Ti without DLSS 3. I would either go RTX 4060 or 4080. If it wasn't for the chassis refresh, this laptop would be a hard buy.
@@cameronbosch1213 I agree, 4080 is so much faster than the 4070, unlike the 4090 compared to 4080 or 4070 compared to 4060 which have small differences. The M16 also doesn't have a 4060 model so 4080 is the best option.
I'm really late to this but I have the m16 rtx4070 and got to say it is really awesome wish it had more vram but not a big problem. I had to return my g16 with a 4060 but the m16 is way better and quieter.
The M16 and G16 are supposed to be in the 2-3K range, not 5K 😮 Now I'm looking forward to the Proart or X16 instead.... Hoping those are more reasonably priced...
I can personally guarantee you one thing, and that’s that the ProArt will be even more expensive. It’s their “creator” line, and so carries and even higher premium than gaming laptops. Not that I agree that they deserve that premium, that is.
Man, I want the new ProArt with the 3D OLED SOOOOO BAD. The only issue I have is it's limited to the 4070 chip, and the 2022 model with the 3080 Ti, 32GB RAM and 2TB SSDs are on sale for $2199 right now, and I know the new one will be much more expensive for similar performance.
Unfortunately it already shipped to one of our writers. There is only so much time to test these puppies! I will keep it in mind for future reviews tho!
The Furmark @ 100W noise is actually reasonable. This gives rise to hope that some thicker, better cooled notebooks, such as Alienware m18, will reach higher speeds at such medium TDPs and reasonable noise levels. I wonder how much the more efficient 4090 instead of 4080 contributes to the noise level at 100W. --robert jasiek
The only reason to get the M16 4090 variant over the Rzr Blade 16 4080 is because the Mini LED screen is only available for the 4090 variant of the Rzr Blade 16.
True, but even then, they are very equally priced. I am testing the Blade right now. Let's see how it stack up against the M16.

I'm between the Asus ROG Zephyrus M16 and the Razer Blade. The razor has the more reasonable display (120HZ) from my pov except that they are very similar. The differences left are they case and the availability. I would like to buy a device with US keyboard layout wich seams much easier from the Razor store.
Razer's display is also 4k, which can be good and bad, depending on your preference. The Razer also has the faster CPU and higher wattage GPU ...on paper, it looks like the better option, but since I didn't use it yet, its quite hard to judge "usability."
Год назад
@@NotebookcheckReviews I does look on better on paper. The of the Razer case is very similar it might not have the headroom to actually run the hardware. But yeah without proper reviews it is hard to judge. The other 'upside' is that the Asus store doesn't want to sell the U.S. version of the device for the ansi keyboard layout but the Razer does.
It is a "luxury" product that shows what is possible. It will be very interesting what the 4070 can deliver and what the pricing will be for those configs.
@@NotebookcheckReviews According to current rumours, 4070 Laptop (only 62% CUDA of 4080 Laptop) will be slower than 3070TI Laptop but have a higher price. Hence, 4050, 4060, 4070 might make no sense. --robert jasiek
@@NoName-zf6nrthat is actually true. You only get a better gaming performance in games that support frame generation. It’s a cringe generation of mobile cards
I'm not hyping for laptop with i9 13th gen + 4090, spending 3k ~ 5k $$ is not worth for them comparing the same specs, cheaper in price, but way higher performance in PC build. Still waiting for the laptops with combos AMD cpu ( longer battery life) + Rtx 4070 or 4060
You will always get better value and performance from a desktop. And this argument doesnt make any sense. If you do not need a laptop, go get a desktop. If you need a laptop, you know upfront that it will not compare to a desktop. But yes, the smaller Ada chips will be exciting. And for AMD, while they generally are much more efficient, we have seen in the past that an AMD CPU doesn't automatically guarantee excellent battery life.
@@NoName-zf6nr it really doesn't. No matter how much money you save on a desktop PC, it's not portable. End of story. If you're someone who travels for work every week or two for 1-3 weeks at a time like I do, or work in logistics and trucking, or in airlines and flying, or work remotely on oil and gas well sites, no desktop, no matter how little it costs, works. Because you can't bring it with you. So a laptop is the only option and it becomes a matter of finding the right value, size, and performance for the individual's needs.
I genuinely don't understand why you people do this... You always compare laptop performance to PC performance, as though they're apples to apples comparisons. Do you not understand that people spending money on laptops this powerful are more often than not people who travel a lot & need the portability that a PC simply cannot offer.
@@RyneLanders I perfectly understand your reasoning if somebody, like you, needs non-local mobility. However, I belong to those whose mobility for the computer is restricted to house and possibly garden. For this purpose, I have the luxury choice between a desktop or notebook. (I am also interested in comparisons to desktop benchmarks.) --robert jasiek
Apparently, they angled the exhaust, limiting the amount of hot air hitting the display. I am still curious to hear if there have been any faulty displays tho. I do not think it is that big of a problem
I got relatively low results in my initial testing and ran out of time for further testing, but my colleague is working on the written review that will have all of our standard battery tests! I will link it in the video as soon as it’s ready!
Why is the price so ridiculously high? Even notoriously high priced Razer with the same specs will coast 700 less. Are you sure about the price tag, because it feels strange… ASUS has the best price for g18 in that class and it strange to see this
Really hesitating between the zephyrus m16 4090/4080 or the blade 16 4080. The deal breaker for me right now is that there is no HX CPU with the m16 so I would be missing out on 10 more cores that would be useful to me because I work with virtual machines, but I also think that 14 cores should be enough. Also waiting for a full 40 series RTX laptop GPU comparison at different TGP from anyone out there...
Graphic card tdp is the most important thing. If I were you I would've watched at this particular parameter. The bigger tdp the more your laptop will live and better it perform
Great review but I think you can make it even better by improving the clarity of the charts. It's a little hard to read and I don't even have any visual problems. Maybe a black background would be better instead of a gray background with gray text and you could use more vivid colours for the lines.
Thank you for this review. I'm wondering if the m16 with rtx4080 is a better choice. I have a question: have you perhaps measured how long it runs on battery in performance mode?
You are welcome, and yes, the 4080 is the better option overall. You can find more info about battery life in our written review: www.notebookcheck.net/Asus-ROG-Zephyrus-M16-2023-laptop-review-RTX-4090-with-a-super-bright-Mini-LED-display.702260.0.html#toc-9
@@NotebookcheckReviewsThank you :) Last question: in your opinion: rog M16 or Blade 16? Which is better for content creators and lose less on the battery?
9:02 Ran out of time to make a video about battery test? How exactly does that happen? Is there a scheduled crunch to push the video to publication in sacrifice of quality? Lordy please don't pull a Linus TT on us
Hi Alex, thanks for the review. Can you confirm if these benchmarks were done in Performance mode or Turbo mode? Some of the figures look similar to other reviews in Turbo mode, but it would be great to clarify. Also, that performance vs power drop off is insane in that section of the video. 15% more frames in Turbo for 60% more GPU wattage.
Good video! You’ve mentioned the Blade 16 several times in the video, so would there be a Blade 16 video out soon? 1 more thing, I’m deciding between the m16 and the blade 16, so it would really help if you could label the sounds level (dB) of the fan noise, so we’d have a number to compare. Great work!!!
I will get the Blade in a few days ;) Measured db numbers will follow in the written reviews, I do not (yet) have the tools in the studio. But that should change within the next few weeks!
I pulled the trigger on the RTX 4080 version of this laptop for an eye watering £3,300. It hasn't arrived yet but I still can't shake the feeling I should've waited for the Strix G18 RTX 4070 & just gone with that.

@@Optora. Ive had it a few days now. it's amazing To be fair I was upgrading from a 7 year old MSI GT72S GTX 980M/Intel i7-6820hk so the difference in performance is absolutely wild. Some thoughts so far: - No numberpad is a choice I made, & will take some getting used to, but I chose the more mature, muted M16 with the better screen, over the childish/overly gamer G18 aesthetic + numpad - Battery life is just shit. I mean the most ive had so far is probably 3 hours? I guess I have to hope that modern battery management will prevent degradation over time. - The screen is amazing, might be the best screen ive seen just from laptops ive seen in stores that stock high end laptops - The power on this thing is surprising, for such a small , kind of incognito look... the 4080 suprises me in what it can actually do. I love the laptop, I don't think i'll return it. I was maybe going to return it to consider a better value buy with the G18 4070, but the 4070 benchmarks look terrible, & the extra money spent on the 4080 M16 with the mini led display is worth it for me. Costly though, £3300 is no joke.
It's 3000 eur. in Lithuania right now. Should I go for M16 (2023) RTX4090 or M16 (2024) RTX4070? They are the same price! I will use laptop ONLY for CS2 gaming, I do not use PC for anything else.
Excellent review, I have read online that some models of this 2023 laptop does not have the anime matrix. Do you know if the Model number 90NR0BR1-M00430 has this feature? I cannot find anywhere a list of which models have it and which ones not. Also, now this model is around 3800 euro, would you say now is worth at this price point? Cheers!
Apparently, they modified it slightly. Of course, we can not say for sure since we do not have the laptops in the studio long enough. But I am unaware of any actual defaults, just from the hot air alone.
It’s their magnesium stuff, that feels like a metal, plastic, rubbery mix … the keyboard deck feel a little soft touch but not a lot, the lid is this Matt textured metal that just looks and feels awesome. Super hard to describe, but I hope that helped!
Alex please standardise the video procedure for every model you test for the site with basic features we can't appreciate from the review ( screen, keyboard, chassis flexing, screen stability) and whatever other feature readers would like. Maybe short videos with these features could help.
@@NotebookcheckReviews Nice. Was this in performance or turbo mode for game results. Also the results says 4k(7:34), qhd(11:38) then qhd (11:44). Guessing the last results are FHD
bro when I was reading the reviews in best buy. One guy said that he can't play cyberpunk or any other game in HDR because the game crashes is it true???
I measured around 4,5 hours in our wifi battery test. But I ran out of time doing extensive testing, and this number was relatively low. So I am afraid you will have to wait for our written review until we can verify our numbers!
The rog strix scar 16 or 18 with higher watt 4090 and beefier cpu is only 4000 bucks....hmmm....besides the better screen that seems the better overall value
From a performance stand point, these are better value. But the M16 is much better made, has an excellent display and is more compact and overall more premium. If that is worth the extra cost ... only you can decide! :)
@@NotebookcheckReviews weird, according to rog website they should have the same screrns... guess i have to wait for the legion 4090 and see that price
Good video looking for a laptop is difficult and even more so with the prices as they go, there is a lot of difference with the M16 this year and last year, I start to see the reviews in BESTBUY about the M16 and they are not very good there are some problems and For the price it is not cheap, I am looking at the HP OMEN 16 and it has better reviews just like the LENOVO LEGION although I like the design of the HP OMEN better, it is cleaner
I only got 4,5 hours in my initial test and ran out of time to investigate and test it further. But we are currently working on the written review that will have battery life numbers!
This should have been packed in an 18 inch form factor. All this power in a 16 incher won’t end up well. And the price…more expensive than ProArt. it’s absolutely ludicrous.
@@NotebookcheckReviews Agreed. When are we expecting ASUS ProArt StudioBook Pro 2023 model review from you guys? And will there be models that sport workstation GPU with Intel Xeon like the previous gen?
Do you mean the one with the 3D-display or the regular 120hz OLED? As soon as we can get samples and schedule reviews. There is so much coming out right now .... ;)
@@NotebookcheckReviews Yes, the new 2023 3D models. Last year’s generation had an option with Intel Xeon and Quadro a5000, but this year’s new models announced in CES only have i9 and GeoForce 40 series which is disappointing for someone like me who want workstation performance for CAD and Solidworks. You guys keep up the great work!
Hope someone can help me out with choosing RAM. I know these new M16’s come with 1x16GB of RAM and an empty slot to upgrade. I’m stuck between deciding on getting another 16GB stick for a total of 32GB or get a 32GB stick to bring it up to a total of 48GB. I don’t fully understand the duel and quad channel memories and wonder if having two mismatched RAM sticks (16GB + 32GB) would cause any performance issues? For reference, I do a lot of editing and casually game. The idea of having 48GB over 32GB sounds good, but again, not sure if there would be diminishing returns if they’re not matching. Thanks!
@@NotebookcheckReviews Is the entire body magnesium or only bottom piece? I don't like the Scar's heavy use of plastics in hindsight and this looks less obnoxious too!

i am guess I am kind of missing it, but is that lid customizable to any extent? Like if I wanted to casually advertise myself sitting in a coffee shop?
Would anyone happen to have the 4080 spec of this? I'm looking to buy it for college as a comp Sci major, but I'm wondering if it's any quieter and any cooler than the 4090 version
Truly ... amazing ;) I can't wait to get my hands on the G14. And even tho I already know pricing will probably be crazy, having a 4090 in a 14" notebook ... does sound intriguing.
Honestly, I'd say this year's releases have lost some of the luster from the previous gen due the absurd prices. Maybe it's because I'm coming from a 3rd world perspective, but a ~1500 USD/Euro pricing for something like a 6800H (or 12700H) and 3070Ti combo that is largely similar to a desktop 3060 Ti, which in itself is a bit better than a 2080 Super seems *crazy*. It's expensive as hell, but it's somewhat achievable and not that far off of the desktop setup it matches, especially considering screen and keyboard are included. There is the expected laptop premium, sure, but it's just that- a premium. An extra tax. Something costing three, four or even five thousand USD/Euro, on the other hand, that *should* be even more impressive due being a 3090 desktop setup that you can carry on a 2 cm thick laptop- and honestly, even typing it "out loud" makes it seem like a fanciful claim- doesn't pack as much of an emotional punch, because it's like seeing a half a million dollar Ferrari blazing through a race track- it's insanely fast, but that's kind of expected. Of course, I don't expect you guys to do a review from this point of view, but just for perspective, 5000 euro, which might seem a fairly big chunk of money in Europe or NA, is *twenty two months of minimum wage* in Brazil. And that's before considering that, after taxes, that's going to look like FOUR YEARS of minimum wage. Over here, RTX 3060 and RX6600 are the equivalent of ~2000 USD cards for the average US citizen. So I'm really critical every time manufacturers hike prices on eletronics. There is little point in more performance if it still has the same price:performance ratio, or close enough. Or even when it's better, but the startup cost is on another tier entirely so it doesn't terribly matter- one's options haven't changed when any of these is the case. On another note, I really like when laptop reviews compare to desktop cards and processors, because there is way less variance in terms of performance on desktop products. Sure, a given model might be 5% faster than reference card, but by and large you know what to expect from any given model by its chip. It's *much* easier to grasp "oh, this is about a RX 6700 or RTX 3070 in performance", while "this is 20% faster than that other brand's other laptop from last year" is far more abstract- and I watch laptop reviews for fun! So please, keep doing comparisons to desktop CPUs and GPUs. And while I'm writing this giant essay of a post, I will take a moment and say that NVIDIA should be called out for putting a cut-down 4080 chip on a laptop and calling it a 4090. It just seems very dishonest.
Hey Igor, thanks a lot for your comment and especially for your perspective. We try to keep all of this in mind, but coming from Europe, I am still somewhat "limited" in my perspective and how I evaluate value. That said, I totally agree with you regarding the pricing of these new high-end laptops. While it might be worth it for some that use these for work, for a pure entertainment use-case, it is pretty crazy to spend that kind of money. As for the whole desktop/laptop naming discussion, I differ slightly on that matter. I do not think a laptop 4090 should necessarily be as fast or close to a desktop 4090. And if Nvidia had put a desktop 4090 die into a laptop, well, the 4090 costs more than 2000,- alone, so the laptop variant would have been even more expensive than that. While we put the RTX 4090 in perspective with desktop cards in our initial XMG Neo 16 review, I wonder if that makes sense in general. Only some people do have the knowledge about desktop cards to put that info in perspective, but I will keep it in mind and discuss it with the team.
@@NotebookcheckReviews Oh yeah, in terms of absolute performance, these are mindblowingly fast, no doubt. It's a bloody *3090* on pretty thin and light chassis. I don't doubt there are desktop 3090s whose volume matches that of this entire laptop. On the naming matter, it feels to me like NVIDIA will very likely releate a 4090 Ti that has a cut down 4090 die on their mid-life refresh, maybe next year. The current laptop 4090 could have simply been the laptop 4080. It's a bit of a silly thing, but I feel that's somehow more honest. By cheapening out on the die, feels like they didn't put as much effort as they are saying they put in, somehow? I don't know, it's a silly sticking point. And sure, not everyone has knowledge of desktop cards- however! There are dozens of reviews in every nationality for any single model of desktop card, while some laptops can have a single review in the entirety of the internet at some points. The fact that desktop parts are immensely more consistent model-to-model is icing on the cake. You could approach this any number of ways- build a desktop system or two that you feel are very representative for their class, for example, and only bench against that. That's an easy one-and-done, but already it'd give every single review you put out that solid footing of the desktop benchmark. I think just having a staple system to compare against would add much richness to the information in your reviews. Maybe something high-end-ish, but not all the way there, like a 7900 XT or a 4070 Ti, or something last gen like a 6800 XT or 3080. For example, when it comes to last-gen machines, something in the ballpark of a 5800X and 3060 Ti system would give very useful margins for the majority of gaming laptops. The various 3060 ones are not that far away from a desktop 3060, the many 3070/Ti ones are pretty close to the 3060 Ti, the ones higher than that are around desktop 3070 performance. So a system around the mid-high end would give useful- as in, easily contextualized margins no matter the product you reviewed. You could build a system like this going foward! The fact that there is a *lot* of legacy data for desktop cards all around, techpowerup in special, also helps a lot. Because, say I know what a 3060 Ti can do, but I'm not sure how that compares to a theoretical 4070 Ti system that you might put together. I can very easily check a % comparison in their GPU database and get a rough idea. Another benefit is that every game lists requirements in deskptop parts, so it also becomes much easier to tell how well a given notebook will meet given requirements.
why why add that stupid Matrix on the back, and the price absolutely crazy, madness, and the if you dont like the matrix lid you can turn it off is great except it makes the lid slightly thicker and you cant turn that off.. Glad to see you dont recommend at this price point, thumbs up, subbed..
I don't know if the LEDs contribute to the Lid thickness that much. I am currently testing an MSI with a 17" MiniLED panel. And that one also has a very thick and heavy lid. So it could be the screen itself. Thank you for your sub!
Someone said 5000 euros for a laptop that has a 4090 and an i9-13900H cpu? They probably should have crammed a desktop cpu inside it if they wanted to justify that kind of price.
5k Euros wtf... I swear Nvidia lost the plot. Not only the new GPU's aren't a significant improvement in performance, they also cost much more. So far I think a 6800H/12700H with 3070ti is the best bang for buck, no matter what the new generation offers.
@@NotebookcheckReviews agree, performance is no doubt beautiful, but think of it this way. Old chips suddenly didn't get weaker. They still offer the same performance as they did before these were announced. For 5k you can get a high end laptop from previous gen and still have around half of that money to spend on vacation. My subjective impression is that people fall into the trap of thinking in relative terms. Sure, 13th gen is better than 12th gen and 4000 series is better(?) than 3000 series... But if the older gen in a vacuum is still enough, still does the job, why spend this amount of money? Rhetorical question. Anyway, waiting to see you streaming again.
I agree with you. And I also wouldn't spend that kind of money just to go from 100fps to 130fps in any game, probably. For work, its different, but that wasn't really the point here. Last years tech still very much has its place in 2023, especially if you can get some good deals on last-gen laptops.
I checked the max brightness in HDR and even with different-sized windows to be sure. It is very easy to judge that a review was "half-assed" without knowing what goes behind the scenes and how much work it actually is for one person (in this case) to put these videos together within a couple of days while testing a handful of laptops of the same time ...
If I recall correctly it's even a bit thinner and smaller, and yes the screen is very close if not quite the same. I liked it a lot especially since it's been glossy. "Fast enough" is a bold statement tho ;)
Look like the 4070 is going to have less power than the 3070 variant of laptop. I currently have the Legion 5 with 130 watts .It plays everything I want over 80fps at 1440p .I simply couldn't justify spending more on a gaming laptop than a decent 2nd hand car !!!!
If you put into perspective what you could get for 5000,- EUR, its pretty crazy ... and just because new stuff is out, it doesnt mean last year's tech is obsolete!
A 4080 laptop for me would be the best buy. You can currently buy an ROG Strix Scar 16'' with a 13980hx and 4080 for $2499 which is really good value IMO.
I just started working on the review for the Flow X16 ;) Right off the bat, the Flow X16 has the advantage of pen support and being a convertible if you want to use a stylus for retouching or the like. And its quite a bit slimmer than the M16 if you travel a lot. I will keep you updated!
@@NotebookcheckReviews hello! How did it go with the Asus ×16 2023? 1 want to eat my new laptop and I don't know which one, that one or the m16? or some oled? What do you recommend me? I am also afraid with the oled that the screen will burn

@@NotebookcheckReviews just checked the website again. All the 2023 models don't come with the better HDR panel with 1024 dimming zones. Really disappointed with Asus for this false marketing and trying to sell customers a lower quality display
The price difference between north america and Europe is crazy on these laptops, the 4090 version of the M16 retails for less than 3000€ (4200CA$) here in Canada... And the 4070 version comes with the MiniLED QHD+ panel, making it a super good option, at around 1700€ (2500CA$) !

where do i buy the Asus ROG Zephyrus M16 GU604VY-NM042X? your link only goes to the version with 32 gb ram
Thank you.
I will definitly try to get those ones into the studio as well. Will be very interesting to see how they compare to the ROG/Razer offerings.
Do all m16 have anime matrix on lid?
@@kennysponto6568 Nope, only select m16's actually. By going to their website, and to the gaming laptops, the tech specs page lists which do and do not have Anime Matrix.
its also the thickness and ligher weight
@@kennysponto6568 no only the 4090.
Crazy price... Nvidia is trying to rip us off this generation
Seems that way. Although I think that MiniLED adds quite a bit to the price as well!
@@NotebookcheckReviews how does miniled add the price? Didn't they just flip the anime matrix leds towards the screen for extra brightness? Or that's the case for just the g14 2023?
Lets see how far they can get away with it
@@avfx111 the anime matrix got nothing to do with a led or ips screen.
@@amadei2it does. The miniLED backlight functions 1:1 the same as Anime Matrix does. And in G14 that's what has been done
With this insane price, it's better to get the blade 16 this year for premium thin & light gaming laptop. The blade 16 has 13950hx and 175w 4090 while being only 0.2 kg heavier compare to M16's top spec.
I can not wait to get my hands on that one. I should have it in the studio soon!
Too hot to handle :D
Can a blade 16 have 64gb of ram??
Yes but the problem with razer blade is the bloated battery because i got a razer blade 15 and after about the year, the battery has expanded twice it's original size
Yeah if you're buying a 4090 get the most power variant possible.
Great review as usual guys!
While it does look like the perfect machine, at this price point it seems better to consider Blade 16, or maybe even Zephyrus Duo.
Thanks a ton Rebance!
@@NotebookcheckReviews is there a 4060 variant?
@@mutant69 yes
The mini-LED is also available with the 4070.
Can you review the Razer blade 16 and make a comparison between the m16 2023 and blade 16?
Yes, I hope we will get our Blade 16 review sample soon!
I love to see few game comparison between newer older laptops in each review video.
Decent price indeed, where did you buy it from?
@@adamal9560 Saturn in Germany. It was a super bowl deal where u get discount on some products that are in status pre-orders
The M16 and G16 are supposed to be in the 2-3K range, not 5K 😮
Now I'm looking forward to the Proart or X16 instead.... Hoping those are more reasonably priced...
I can personally guarantee you one thing, and that’s that the ProArt will be even more expensive. It’s their “creator” line, and so carries and even higher premium than gaming laptops.
Not that I agree that they deserve that premium, that is.
@@levygaming3133 can't say I'd be surprised if the Proart were expensive too but I can always hope until they announce pricing 😂
It will be super expensive, I am sure! :D
Would it be possible to get some size comparisons with other laptops you may have on hand? Also speaker comparison will be handy as well
Unfortunately it already shipped to one of our writers.
I would love to test the 4080 in the same chassis, to see how big the differences really are!
Thank you for the review. It is a great laptop, but too pricey. Everything more than 2500 euro is too much, as in one year it will become obsolete.

If they only would sell that one with the MiniLED panel!
@@NotebookcheckReviews The argument depends on how much the price increases for the same performance. --robert jasiek
@@RyneLanders I perfectly understand your reasoning if somebody, like you, needs non-local mobility. the display is in front of the rear exhaust, the fans blow hot air directly on the display
Apparently, they angled the exhaust, limiting the amount of hot air hitting the display. I am still curious to hear if there have been any faulty displays tho. I do not think it is that big of a problem
Hi Alex, just wondering how’s the battery life on this machine?
I got relatively low results in my initial testing and ran out of time for further testing, but my colleague is working on the written review that will have all of our standard battery tests! I will link it in the video as soon as it’s ready!
Why is the price so ridiculously high? Even notoriously high priced Razer with the same specs will coast 700 less. Are you sure about the price tag, because it feels strange… ASUS has the best price for g18 in that class and it strange to see this
the Razer Blade 16 with the 4090 is 5000,- so the difference isnt that big.
Remember this is EURO pricing.
There's also VAT in Europe, which needs to be removed before conversion into USD.

Hi Ryne, all the benchmarks have been done in turbo mode! :)
Good video! You’ve mentioned the Blade 16 several times in the video, so would there be a Blade 16 video out soon?

Some thoughts so far:
- No numberpad is a choice I made, & will take some getting used to, but I chose the more mature, muted M16 with the better screen, over the childish/overly gamer G18 aesthetic + numpad
- Battery life is just shit. I mean the most ive had so far is probably 3 hours? I guess I have to hope that modern battery management will prevent degradation over time.
- The screen is amazing, might be the best screen ive seen just from laptops ive seen in stores that stock high end laptops
- The power on this thing is surprising, for such a small , kind of incognito look... the 4080 suprises me in what it can actually do.

Does it still blow hot air on the screen? Does this really effect the longevity of the screen?
Apparently, they modified it slightly. Of course, we can not say for sure since we do not have the laptops in the studio long enough. But I am unaware of any actual defaults, just from the hot air alone.
Is the M16 chassis soft touch (rubbery) as it was in 2022? Or what is the chassis (Keyboard deck and lid) made of?
It’s their magnesium stuff, that feels like a metal, plastic, rubbery mix … the keyboard deck feel a little soft touch but not a lot, the lid is this Matt textured metal that just looks and feels awesome.
Super hard to describe, but I hope that helped!
Best for both creators and gamers
Maybe not the best, but very, very good indeed!

I have to sell my kidney and liver to buy one
Yepp, prices are crazy for these!
Do you think the 4070 version is good for this device
It costs 2300usd
How would the Temps and battery be like too?
We will see soon how the RTX4070 compares the its bigger brothers!
@@NotebookcheckReviews Would be great to include battery in 4070 one! Considering that one fkr the price, also what about new g14?
Whats up with the battery life?
Coming within our written review. I ran out of time while testing this one!
Absolute outrageous prices, I won’t buy a laptop this year, let them cook on the stock guys!
Please guys help a brother out, should I get the last year g15 Rtx 3080. or the new 2023 model g14 Rtx 4070 🙏
can you compare with macbook m2 pro? I dont think is so expensive ($1929)
We will have a video about the new Macbook Pros coming soon. That should help to put it in perspective.
If possible can u also do the review for the new ASUS ROG Zephyrus G16
It is sitting on my desk next to me right now! :)
ur awesome bro
Always trying!
Would anyone happen to have the 4080 spec of this? I'm looking to buy it for college as a comp Sci major, but I'm wondering if it's any quieter and any cooler than the 4090 version
We did not have the chance to try the 4080 SKU yet, but I would love to have those questions answered myself!
Where do u get those wallpapers? 😅
unsplash! :) Always!
now i am thinking which one i want to order ( asus M16 or G14 4090 version)!!!
both of their price is really ... amazing ( 4100 pounds & 3600 pounds)
Truly ... amazing ;)
I can't wait to get my hands on the G14.
@@NotebookcheckReviews
Oh yeah, in terms of absolute performance, these are mindblowingly fast, no doubt.
Im definetly getting the M16 when i get tax money back haha. Vielen dank für die review!
Gern geschehen! Which config will you buy. I am genuinely interested!
@@NotebookcheckReviews The 4080 since the 4090 version here in Denmark is almost 1000 euro more :)
Yikes, i am very curious to see how much performance you leave on the table if any ...
@@NotebookcheckReviews Yea same, i hope the perfomance doesnt take that quite a hit like in the 4090
why why add that stupid Matrix on the back, and the price absolutely crazy, madness, and the if you dont like the matrix lid you can turn it off is great except it makes the lid slightly thicker and you cant turn that off..
@@NotebookcheckReviews the ani matrix at the back makes it thicker
Someone said 5000 euros for a laptop that has a 4090 and an i9-13900H cpu?
They probably should have crammed a desktop cpu inside it if they wanted to justify that kind of price.
5k Euros wtf... I swear Nvidia lost the plot. Not only the new GPU's aren't a significant improvement in performance, they also cost much more. So far I think a 6800H/12700H with 3070ti is the best bang for buck, no matter what the new generation offers.
I agree, these are crazy expensive. But you get A LOT more performance out of these new cards!
Last years tech still very much has its place in 2023, especially if you can get some good deals on last-gen laptops.
when is it releasing?
It should be out by now!
@@NotebookcheckReviewsbut it's not on the asus official website?
Wow 600 nits only?? That's a huge let down. They advertised 1100! Thanks for checking that
Yeah I was surprise myself. We will sanity check for the written review, but this is what I measured!
- Alex
1100nits is in HDR. It feels like this review was very half assed.
Get two x16 instead, it's the same screen and fast enough with a 3070ti better battery in exactly the same size
I love your videos, I would like to know between rog flow X16 2023 or M16? Which one is better for photography creation?
I just started working on the review for the Flow X16 ;)
Right off the bat, the Flow X16 has the advantage of pen support and being a convertible if you want to use a stylus for retouching or the like. And its quite a bit slimmer than the M16 if you travel a lot.
I will keep you updated!

Only professionals can justify this kind of price tag. Anything more than $3k for a laptop is an instant turn off for anyone other than true professionals.
You can't even get the 4090 and mini led sku in SG
Might be a flagship SKU for press and media mostly?! But you can get it in europe I think ...
@@NotebookcheckReviews just checked the website again. All the 2023 models don't come with the better HDR panel with 1024 dimming zones. Really disappointed with Asus for this false marketing and trying to sell customers a lower quality display
Amazing! 👍
Thanks Mate!
the price w/no hx & lower power output is dumb
Yeah, the Value-Performance Preposition doesnt really check out.
They must have lost their mind with the price.
Pretty much!
Are you sure about the 4070 getting the MiniLED? In Europe, its only available with the "standard" QHD option.
@@NotebookcheckReviews I will tell you for sure in a few weeks, I bought one :-)
