JERRY, If you have working power windows, especially the rears, that have not been lubed they won't stay working for long. You MUST atleast lubricate them. Use either very wet or very dry lube. Grease on the gear is fine but the channels/tracks need lube. ANY bit of drag on the sliding tracks will cause the rear window mechanism to actually bend. TOP SECRET 300CD REAR WINDOW LUBE TRICK. To get to the sliding tracks you can either remove the entire back seat and the interior panels OR pry the decorative center piece off of the interior panels to reveal an access hole/cover to the mechanism. It is only held on by the tips of upholstery staples. This turns several hours of work into 20 minutes. Reattach center piece with a rubber mallet, magnets, or your choice of another hidden fastener.
I finally figured out what the heck was wrong with my rear windows on one of my coupes... SOMEONE... had the slide triangle connector bracket reversed on the slide bar. A tremendous amount of stress was created upon opening or closing the window and also caused the brackets to become damaged. Talk about getting excited once I replaced the bent triangle and having rear windows open effortlessly. This car is most beautiful on the open road in good weather with all windows down and sunroof open~ IMHO!
I have a 1987 300e and the drivers window just stopped working. It's stuck open. We checked the switches and they are all working. There is no motor noise when trying to roll up. How can you tell if it is the regulator or the motor that is not working? Great video, thank you for your time :)
My right front and left rear windows work great. I replaced switch and fuses. Still no working on the front left and rear right. Could a faulty relay cause only one half of the windows to work?
There is also an "ice cube" relay located behind the speedo cluster that controls ALL the windows. At least, there was on my '85. The inst cluster needs to be removed to access that relay. There are 3 of them and I THINK that it was the middle one. Just in case you're having issues with all of them.
Hey, just a little question... I have a 1978 europe W123 240D, but i really want a second one, a coupe.... How much are you paying for a Diesel coupe in the US?
I have 3 of the coupe models and depending on condition and mileage on these 3 I have paid 1500 1500 and 4500 for my best one. The 2 inexpensive ones both needed work and had a bit of rust on them. They also were the non-turbo models as the $4500 one was turbo and had no rust whatsoever.
Bought several switches before I got a good one on eBay turned out the German brand was a dud and the Chinese brands took a few more buys to get a reliable switch @ $5.00 each. And get fuses w/ the brass links as opposed to the aluminum links.

Agh. Looks like I'll have to pull my cluster... Windows will sometimes work, but mostly not. Fuses are all good.
Good video!

Pristine turbo diesels are selling in the low teens right now.
You rear window should go down all the way, if it does not you have to reinforce the rails. The metal is to thin and will star to bend over time.
Anyoke know how to align the front and rear windows?
