    GPD's market share in handheld PC is getting smaller due to the rise of Steamdeck and major manufacturers' effort like ROG Ally or Legion Go so they decided to create this insanity. This might be a niche device but I love when manufacturers just have all the resources to create the most insane design PC that actually worked

      The GPD Duo is *literally* too much fun haha

    • @nickthaskater
      @nickthaskater Месяц назад +6

      I'd much rather have my Win Max 2 over a Steam Deck. The Steam Deck and its imitators are compromised to the point of making no sense. I will never understand the appeal vs. the WM2.

    • @sindrisuncatcher653
      @sindrisuncatcher653 Месяц назад +1

      The steamdeck is an impressive piece of hardware at a very attractive price, but it comes with a lot of drawbacks. It's not really portable unless you put it in a dedicated case to protect the screen and sticks, so it enables you to play games lying on the couch instead of sitting at your desk but that's not really a game changer. The various imitators from rog and lenovo and such have all the same drawbacks, but with a heftier price tag and less comfortable control layout, so I don't get the point.
      Something like the GPD Mini fills a niche nobody else does, a full computer that will *literally* fit in your pocket, and it's even lighter than any of the other handheld PCs.
      But I do definitely like seeing GPD branch out into machines for engineers and designers and such in addition to just gaming. It seems like almost nobody who makes computers gets creative with it these days; they make a laptop that looks exactly like it did ten years ago, and the media treats a 14-inch screen instead of 13 or 15 like it's a revolutionary thing. GPD engineers are making things nobody else is making, and it's a gamble to be sure but it also means they have almost no competition for their (very limited) target market.

      Those are gaming handhelds first, this is a productivity monster on the go. I do see this as a must have for digital nomads, who also does play to time in an all-in-one package.

    As someone who's been rocking the GPD WIN 4 8840U, I thought I had seen it all. But the GPD Duo? This thing makes my WIN 4 look like a toy! I mean, dual OLED screens, a 4090 running through oculink, and PCIe slots for days? It's like someone at GPD said, "What if we took a desktop workstation, crammed it into a laptop, and gave it features no sane person would ever need?" And I *love* it.
    The WIN 4 was already pushing the boundaries, but the Duo takes it to an entirely different universe. I used to think having a pocket powerhouse was enough, but now I’m looking at this insane, dual-screen, battery-conserving monster, and my WIN 4 feels like a warm-up lap. If you’re the kind of person who loves tech overload-and I mean *loves* it-this is the machine for you. It’s not just a laptop; it’s the tech lover’s dream come to life.

    Personally for me, I would love a full sized 16" version - imagine dual 4k OLED screens (there is a 4k 90Hz 16.3" OLED out). That version could be a full workstation that you could take on the go (it would be as thick as a gaming laptop or workstation) with 2 screens. A larger form factor would allow for other things such as better speakers.

    Ohhh, what do we have here, im pretty interested in a setup like that. One thing i don't like is 60hz, but honestly speaking, if you are running on the igpu, most likely you won't be able to push triple A games passed that if played at 1080p or above. What I do love is the fact that you can connect external devices to the screen. I remember my friend had a gaming laptop with said feature and we used to play PS3 or any hdmi capable device, it was an awesome experience.

    • @sindrisuncatcher653
      @sindrisuncatcher653 Месяц назад

      For gaming without plugging it into a full desktop setup, yeah you're unlikely to need more then 60Hz and it saves some battery life. But if you actually folded it into the world's thickest tablet, I don't like how the screen response lags behind the movement of a finger or pen on 60hz touchscreens. There's a reason every modern smartphone is at least 90, usually 120Hz.

    Which model of oculink dock did you use ?
    BTW given GPD's history with their previous laptops, it baffles me that despite all these BIOS features they could take the time to test and include in the Duo, and despite that an indiegogo campaign allows them to plan in advance the exact amount of sold units that should be built, they surely won't give any option to replace the qwerty keyboard by an azerty one.

    • @danielrdotcom
      @danielrdotcom 7 дней назад

      well its not advertised as a gaming machine, hence no VRR and the panels are 60hz, but with an oculink egpu it can definitely fill that role on a desk.

  • @Coconutgl
    @Coconutgl Месяц назад +4

    It seems good but real case scenario is not suitable for most people. For portable, it is too heavy. If you mostly put it on a desk, you can easily find a second monitor or many other devices to improve using experience. The price is too high, compare to other light weight/gaming laptop the price/performance ratio is low. Touch screen is nice but it is not a deal breaker, otherwise windows surface sales will not been unsatisfactory. Nowadays an all round but high price product is only good on paper.

      Having the battery sit at 100% all the time is maximum voltage for the battery and keeping it there all the time is not ideal for batteries. Will cause greater wear on the battery in an accelerated fashion resulting in needing to replacing it sooner than otherwise.
