- Lorraine Bowen is fed up with Samsonite's poorly made wheels. The case is sturdy but the wheels discintergrate after only six months! In her first 'HOW TO' video, she gets her handyman to replace these with top quality roller blade wheels! WOW! They run like the wind now and are SOO sturdy!

Undercover Dustin Werbeski Pro Wheels 72 mm.
Make sure they have that hole in the middle! These cost £24.49 (you had to order 4).
Lorraine had taken her suitcase back to the shop for a £50 wheel replacement and was told they did not replace this model. Now her case is fully restored and even better than first purchased!

Excellent tutorial with a very entertaining intro and I specifically loved that there was no voice over or any other kind of blabla it 's not complicated and was very easy to follow. I fixed my ancient samsonite bag, which has been abused to move things on public transport for years. Everything from small furniture to firewood, books, bedding, computers and sometimes even clothes! The new wheels are so much better than the originals! Now it will last another 10 Years I hope. Thank you very much.

I have quite an old model carry on suitcase. Samsonite Silhouette 9. One of the wheels got stuck somehow and the wheel wore out. Eventually made so much noise as i pulled the suitcase and I got embarrassed at the airport, etc. I then came across your video. i bought some inline skating wheels from amazon and couple of washers. It's as good as new now!!! 🎉
i am so happy because this suitcase is really well made and i didn’t want to throw it away just because the wheel made some noise.
I paid appox $15 (Canadian$) in total(probably could've gone cheaper but whatever. Im super happy. ) , instead of spending $250 for a new suitcase.

Hi lorraine, you inspired me to give it a try. It surprised me how easy it is. Hopefully the world most famous luxury luggage manufacturer uses the same cheap but 10 times better quality wheels in the future.

I bought a pair of old rollerblades at a flee market today and I'm going to use those wheels. But getting the old wheels off the case is difficult. It's a different model and the thing that holds the wheel in place is hard to get too. I'll see about grinding it. Or maybe I can cut it. Removing the wheels from the rollerblade wasn't a problem, though.

Actually each of the two Wheel housings on my 22inch Samsonite Roller Bag were held in position by two screws but also two crimped bolts which had to be drilled off. Once done they were easily replaced with black no.10-32 screw, with black washers and lock nuts on the interior. The wheels themselves sold locally for $50 (Pack of 4) so a trip to Goodwill (2nd Hand Shop) and I found a pair for $14.00 - 8 wheels - Almost New Nike wheels. The threaded two sided bolt that held the wheels onto the boots was used to replace the crimped bolt on the original...actually a better fit.

For Samsonite silhouette 9, I used Razor scooter wheels 134932. Used original spindle and snap ring. Added 2 1/4” flat washers on each side of the bearings to take up a bit of slack. Much better than new!

Thank you for posting this, it is somewhat helpful. However, it needs some explanation of what is happening or text overlay, at this point about what he is doing, ie: what size of bolt is that? Also, to add to the chorus of response: the music is far too loud.

Hi there! Judging from the sheer volume of views on this subject everyone is in the same position! The roller-skate wheels are absolutely superb and I carry my kit of 25kg around really easily now. Samsonite should be ashamed of the quality of their product! Thanks for the lovely feedback!
I fixed my Samsonite wheels in Sofia, Bulgaria taking 3 weeks and over 50€ for the 2 tire replacement. Now I need another fixing during the trip. No way to find a Bosch tool kit access for taking out the permanent bolted spot. I'm planning to wrap up the bike tire cut around the wheel cores.
This looks great, and just like the repair that I am trying to perform, with one important exception - my suitcase wheel is housed in a corner piece of the suitcase (imagine the wheel housing had three sides of a box corner, not just the two sides @ 2:10), so only one end of the wheel spindle is accessible (even visible) and I can't see how to remove the spindle to replace the wheel without destroying the plastic housing.
Also the "exposed" end of the spindle is flush with the plastic so there is absolutely nothing to pull on even if I was able to remove the clip that may (?) be holding the other end of the spindle.
Any thoughts please?

It just happened to me! I bought on amazon replacement luggage wheels made in China, and I was able to swap bearings, and reuse the old axis.

Brilliant, just what I was looking for! But how to be sure that the rollerblade wheels are the exact same size (inner and outer diameter, width) as the original ones?
What if my wheel housings are not held on by screws but by rivets?
I've got a Samsonite rolling briefcase. Rivets!! I'm stuck and am using a smaller capacity rolling product that is basically for holding a laptop.

It is simpler just to grab a different bag off the arrivals carosel. You never know what you'll find inside!

Dremel with a cutting disc, the brittle kind used for cutting metal cut the head off the rivet in 30 seconds :-)
Didn't like the choice of hardware for attaching the wheels. It needs to fit exactly in the hole in the bearing and also not be threaded where it is in contact. It also looks like it will come undone really easily. Some thread lock is needed or really some proper locking nuts with the nylon threads.
