@@sweetchildofnine6677 You're still at the mercy of the opponent to care about the tap. There are always a few assholes, the same across all sorts of martial arts that injure others while training for their ego and it takes a long ass time that they get kicked out.
Back in the mid nineties, when I training with Jean Jaques Machado, Gene LeBell would occasionally show up and teach the students some techniques and submissions. Gene would show us how to do a particular submission and then show us "another way" of doing the same submission, one that would cause much more pain. So he'd show the first way and say, "you could do it this way"; then show us the second way and say, "or you could do it this way, but that wouldn't be very nice." Gene was awesome!
These "nasty/mean things to do in Jiu-jitsu" are actually standard techniques in Catch-as-catch-can wrestling that was developed in England, working class men would get together after work and figure out ways to inflict massive amounts of pain on each other, the legendary MMA fighter Sakuraba was a student of Catch wrestling.
Boogieman was light years ahead of everyone else with the leg locks. Kind of funny how the old guard decided that attacking the legs was “low”. Now it’s required learning or you’re in deep trouble
I've done grappling for years and I have a pretty good pain tolerance but 1 submission that I feel is the most painful and dean showed a variation at the beginning is the calf slicer, I swear I was once limping for a week after that
I got calf-sliced today in no-gi practice on open mats with the Coach. I feel fine, but it was because I tapped as soon as he had it locked in. He just laughed and said I was smarter than most to spare myself the grief of fighting a calf-slicer.
I used to watch King Of The Cage religiously back in the day and remember Lister submitting many opponents, usually with something like a heel hook or toe hold, if memory serves.
Love this lol. Dean and Jocko's unabashed enjoyment of it makes it that much better too hahaha. Also Dean needs to stay out of the sun for a bit, damn lol
Watching this just adds to my respect for mma athletes, as these moves look relatively easy to do, especially the ezikiel choke at the end, yet we don’t see them used successfully, which tells me the constant awareness and defense for all things imaginable is insane, unless these moves are illegal, but I wouldn’t think so. Nice video.
ezekiels are rare all around but more common in JMMA as MMArtists are more often than not allowed to wear gis (grabbing your opponent's lapel makes it a lot easier to pull off this sub).
I do the hobbler fairly often but didn't know it had a name. There's a few variations on the grip but no matter what, a reverse toe-hold causing an external rotation of the ankle is super-duper illegal in IBJJF competition and most comps generally.
One of the most painful thing I had done to me during grappling was while I was mounting my instructor gave me a "horse bite" or super hard pinch to the inside of my thigh and I literally screamed and couldn't jump off him fast enough . Spent the next 30 seconds trying to see if he had cut me or tore something off but there wasnt even much of a mark . I've since done it to several other people and got same result , Wasn't during a fight, just rolling but it's still pretty funny to do.
Shin Ride, Melon Crusher, Dragon Sleeper, Rib Ride, Von Flue Side Control, Cheek Breaker from mount and guard, Cow Catcher to Chin Strap Crank, Wrestlers Guillotine (Twister), KeyLock Forearm Breaker, the Grape Popper, Crucifix Crank, Crossface Crank on jaw and nose from turtle...and so on. my list is lengthy, fun and painful.

I looked at the physics of this after Connor tapped to it, apparently it takes 1000 foot-pounds of torque of more to break a person's neck by twisting. So it would be almost impossible with just arm strength. But fighters like these could certainly apply 250 foot-pounds with the arms alone, so it makes sense that the body freaks out when your a quarter of the way to your head being twisted off.
