Thanks for being so helpful and observant. I have fitted the clutch cable. Maybe I should be more careful to show what I'm doing I think I'm going to have to remove the cover anyway to put more tension on the kick start spring.

Hugh. I know the issues you have had with oil leaks and during my apprenticeship with the REME we always used blue Hylomar. I have found a better one that is used by F1 called Three Bond liquid gasket. It’s performance is far superior to Hylomar especially when there are no gaskets involved. Hope you don’t mind me saying. Sid

Hello Sid that is so helpful and worth knowing. I heard from BSA user's up here that ThreeBond was the way to go so I'm going to try it. I still can't get my head round why I lose so much gearbox oil. I thought it was maybe leaking into the outer timing case but have had an o-ring fitted to the kick start shaft and fitted a new bush for the main shaft. I'm at a loss. Almost as much as the gearbox loss! Much appreciated advice.

@@hughferrier5837 Hugh Firstly I need owe up I am really a Lambretta man having several of these since ‘71 so the C15 is new to me. Now I could be wrong here but my thoughts are if leaking at the kick start you may need a ‘lip’ seal rather than an ‘0’ ring as these seal better from rotational movement. I don’t know if one can be fitted but worth a try. I would definitely put some Three Bond on that little cover and gasket on the inner timing cover but I would guess you will see if it is leaking from here if you took the outer cover off. I haven’t started mine up yet so I have all this fun yet to come!

Hello Sid and thank you for the advice. I would love to have fitted a proper oil seal but there is not enough metal at the kick start to fit one. Quite a few people go for a groove being machined in the case and an O-ring fitted. The machining cost me a fortune! I have clarted blue Hylomar on that gasket. I will try ThreeBond. Lambrettas are great scooters. I have a scooter with less soul - a 97 Yamaha Majesty YP250. A very reliable if slightly mundane machine.

I think you may have to remove the outer timing side cover to fit the clutch cable. Unless you did it off camera before you fitted the cover?

Hugh hi and hope you are well. So I have a question about the kick start you assemble towards the end of the video. It would seem the shaft just rotates without any resistance as though it is not engaging. Was this the case? My kickstart has an intermittent engagement which is annoying to say the least and I am wondering what the solution is to have it engage when it should . As always thanks Hugh

Hello Sydney I am going from (poor) memory on this one. The kick-start shaft rotates in one direction. The pawl prevents it going the other direction. Before putting the spring on it will rotate easily in that one direction. Once the spring is on, and that is a real pig to get it tensioned without ripping some part of your body, it will have limited movement. It sounds as if your pawl mechanism is worn. Rupert Ratio gives some advice on this. I gather its a fairly common problem for early C15s. Hope you get sorted out.

@@hughferrier5837 many thanks Hugh. I think I am going to have to go in deep! Oh dear, oil drawing etc etc. I know you have been there. Keep well

I can't believe there are no gaskets between the crankcase halves, and gearbox cover, it's no wonder they can leak oil

You'd better believe it! Just sticky stuff of some kind. I used Blue Hylomar but think I'll use something a bit more sealing. I feel like using bathroom sealant! That is very frowned on!

@@alanlake5220 I've seen that. If it seals a C15 it will live up to its name.

Would this be very similar to a tr25w?

I am not sure. Is it a Triumph 250? I am no expert on the various British bikes. Maybe someone will give an answer. The C15 is based on the Triumph Tiger Cub. The engines have a lot of similarities.
