      Hi. Good day. How do you clean the inside on an arm strap that is made of genuine alligator or crocodile leather/skin?
      The inside reminds me of a layer made of genuine leather, but it's texture is almost like suede but just much more smoother.

    I’m a jeweler and before I plunked down money for a steamer I used a water Pik and it did super well. This was done when the bracelet was detached from the case. I used warm water, make sure you submerge the bracelet in warm water prior to turning it on otherwise you will make a bloody mess like I did. Also, you will ALWAYS find the “12” side of the bracelet to be the dirtiest so spend a bit more time on that section. Why is it dirtier? Sweat rolls down the wrist and the “12” side is where gravity takes it.

    • @DavidSchwartzjr
      @DavidSchwartzjr  3 года назад

      Thanks for sharing those tips and recommendations Todd! Great idea, the water pik is kind of like a mini pressure washer haha. I could see how that could be a bit messy if not careful 😂 Thanks again! 😎🍻👍

  • @nigellegg7509

    Hmmmmn. Seen something i dont like, and its common with most watch people. Rubbing dirt with a brush or the softest microfibre is not a good idea, no matter how soft it is. Small debri of all sorts, will contain micro abrasive particles. A micro fibre will hold onto particles, and you have something like the mildest sandpaper. Dirt needs to be wetted first, and teased out with a wet or moist instrument. For stainless, better yet, soak it first. You wouldnt start cleaning a dry car with a wet clothe or brush. You would rinse/wet the car first, so grit is held in suspension, and gently washed off. Same principle.

    Get yourself an ultrasonic cleaning device. Mine has a watch holder to keep the watch above the liquid surface to keep it dry, but it's better to remove bracelet altogether to clean it. After 10 minutes cycle it comes out looking pristine.

    The reason why I avoid leather straps from spring to autumn is that the leather absorbs all the sweat becomes dark and gets an acidic pungent smell. Is there a way to get rid of that?

    • @DavidSchwartzjr
      @DavidSchwartzjr  Год назад +2

      It’s going to depend on the strap and how much of that smell has been absorbed into the leather and padding. A couple things worth trying, put baking soda into a small cup (think salsa cup or ramekin) and put that into a larger Tupperware style container that you don’t mind using/tossing away for this, and put the strap in the container with the cup of baking soda and cover with a lid for a day or two and see if the baking soda absorbs the odors. The leather conditioner also has a strong clean leather smell to it so that may help overcome the pungent smell too. Good luck, let me know if this works for you, I’m curious.

    How do you clean ceramic

    • @DavidSchwartzjr
      @DavidSchwartzjr  2 года назад

      Ceramic is very durable so just using a de-greaser or all purpose cleaner in a mild diluted version should be adequate, along with a microfiber towel. If the ceramic has etched indices or other tough to reach spots, I'd brush it well with a toothbrush or other bristle brush to get into all the nooks and crannies with it. Sorry for the late reply, Nicole. I hope that helps!

    What about rubber?

    • @DavidSchwartzjr
      @DavidSchwartzjr  2 года назад

      Rubber you can use the degreaser, HOWEVER, be really careful because I’ve seen some rubbers become really sticky after using a cleaning solvent or even soap on them. Usually what I end up doing is using a microfiber towel and saturating a corner of the towel in cleaning solution then coat the strap with cleaner and rub the hell out of it until all the gunk and gummy crap comes off. It’s not fun and is a really aggressive cleaning method, usually as a last resort.
