Thank you. Looking fwd to watching your upcoming Epic 2025 vids. Good luck with the training and prep which is more difficult than the Epic itself from a time, commitment and discipline point of view. 👍🏻
Good advice - I would add.... use two different brands as the pressure points on your rear end are slightly different and will help avoid visiting the bum clinic; on hydration... it is usually pretty hot, so a USWE or equivalent is vital and makes drinking on steep climbs or descents much easier...I usually wear an USWE and carry an empty bottle, with my choice of hydration powder, on my bike which I fill up at the last water point. Steep technical riding and riding switchbacks during training will go a long way to making your Epic journey a happier one !!
I'll never do another Cape Epic but I would suggest shoes that you can hike-a-bike in comfortably for the tougher days. I got passed by several people charging up Fanti's Pass in what I would consider "non-racing" shoes. The A-frame training is spot on. There were way too many riders that walked the switchbacks and then blocked everyone else while they remounted right at the top and in the way.
