  • Thank you for joining us on this different trip report.
I made my way to New York to fly one last time on the Alitalia flagship B777-200ER service from New York JFK to Rome.
I’m starting with the FCO-ZRH sector as I do not have much footage from the B777 flight: I was busy talking with the crew and other passengers. Take off and landing also were at night.
It was the last flight for most of the crew, thus an emotional rollercoaster. Join along!
Today we are showcasing you the following flight:
From: New York JFK, United States
    To: Zürich Airport, Switzerland
Via: Rome Leonardo Da Vinci Fiumicino Airport, Italy
    Airline: Alitalia
    Flight Number: AZ609 & AZ572
    Aircraft Type: Boeing B777-200ER & Airbus A319-100
    Registration: EI-DBL & EI-IMG
    Flight Time: 07:05 & 01:16
Don’t forget to like and subscribe if you enjoyed our video!
Feel free to leave a comment with your opinion and feedback. Have a nice one!

Thankyou for your nice tribute... my mum started her carrer with Alitalia in '88 and has worked for them as a flight attendant since then... many memories warm her heart and mine as a consequence... she had her first flight on the 747 from Rome to NY so it quite nice ending with a NY FCO... My passion for flying started thanks to her and to Alitalia and her colleagues that made each one of my flights as memorable as possible... bye flying family

What a nice story, thank you for sharing.
She must have lived Alitalia’s best days. Until when did she fly in Alitalia? I had an ex Alitalia B747 captain seated next to me and spend hours talking with him and listening to all the stories of the good days..
Regards to both of you, and keep enjoying your passion. The most beautiful hobby in the world ❤️

@@TheLayoverAviation Ciao! Sorry for the late reply! She has flown for Alitalia till the end and she got aboard Ita Airways and still continues flying! Unfortunately a big chuck of her friends don't fly anymore (the older ones primarily because they chose not to continue with Ita since they where already close to retirement, while some younger ones are still waiting the call to join the company). Still, what really breaks my heart is the end of that era, that of Alitalia. A magnificent story with many passionate crews that really just wanted to do their job, welcome passengers and enjoy their time together. Fortunately some of this is still possible in Ita, but times have changed and my mom won't last really longer in Ita since working hours have become more and more demanding... and, you know, working too much in the air can have effects on your health! But still, that's the best job in the world and she still loves it afterall! Cheers

Everyone may be full of tears and sadness. I can recall Alitalia of 40 years ago and can join in the sadness. But, being more practical, I was on Alitalia, JFK to FCO and back to JFK in August of this year - travelling on Premium Economy. The cabin crew were miserable to the point of being surly (I even asked them if someone had just died). The food was disgraceful and the ONLY liquid offered to us was water. No wine, no drinks, no cola, no coffee etc. I understand from a fellow passenger that it was much the same in Business Class.
Sadly the feeling we were left with was, "Good Riddance".

    • @TheLayoverAviation
      @TheLayoverAviation  2 года назад

The experience has been pretty much the same for everyone during this past summer, a lot of cuts. In August it was already official that the airline was closing down, so what’s sad is that the way the company went down; with quite low service standards. They deserved better, in my opinion.
It felt like the company could not even try anymore. It must have been extremely hard for the employees.
      Thanks for watching
