    Nice thorough test.
    I guess we now need to test a few different battery banks and see if they all work the same. I have a couple I can experiment with.

      I also have a bank that has a built in solar panel. It is a very small panel though, I doubt it would do a full charge in a day.

      I have one of those too. I tested it once charging a dead cell phone. It took all day to get just enough juice to boot up and make one quick call. But in an emergency I guess that's be the goal.

    I have a car battery being solar charged that I use for an electric fence.
    I bought a 12v. USB adapter and it’s been working great.
    Time will tell if my 15 watt solar charger keeps up with the Wyze 3 and the Pacmar electric fence energizer.

    What you need is a power bank with, "pass-through charging" so it can receive a charge from the solar panel while also providing constant power to the Wyze camera. Understand, you need a power bank with enough power to sustain darkness, and also know that while the charging banks are connected to a solar panel AND charging a device, they charge-up at about 1/2 the speed as normal. This is to control heat; a battery that receiving energy AND sending energy will got hot very fast. So, what size mAH power bank do you need? Well, that's a complicated answer. Depends mostly on how much sunlight, and quality of sunlight you have as-well-as the size and capability of your panel knowing the Wyze cam only needs about 1W of power.

      Good info. And I agree. It's just that several years ago when I made this video the pass-through power banks were not as proliferate as they are now. Much easier to find today

    Mophie 10000 power bank. It has passthrough. It gives power to the plugged in device first. You should fully charged the power bank first then plug the camera in; Endless power, kind of until there is some power outage then the power bank will take over and power the device. Still experimenting.

    There is a few different model battery banks that will charge and Supply power at the same time. Make sure it has something called pass through charging. I still wouldn't recommend leaving it plugged up long term most are designed to stay plugged up and charge like that even though it may do so.

    • @VincentSmith1776

      Agreed, not an ideal setup to leave a pass-thru continuously charging. But it is a simple solution to the need. for someone who needs to leave a Wyze cam set up somewhere without power.

    Get a solor cell and charge controler and make a portable power bank with 3.7 volt bats and make a voltage regulator circut. Be easy to make a water proof housing for the power bank.
    I know i love my v3, video quality blows me away..

    • @VincentSmith1776

      I completely agree on the video quality, especially at night.
      I've been told most portable battery banks aren't meant to discharge and be charged simultaneously. That would sure simplify the setup if one would.

    I like the test but there's no discussion about foot traffic. I think the device will record more, thus using more power 🔋 in higher traffic areas. Your final experimental setup is in a door way a traffic route. I think 2 + days is pretty good for that battery.

    • @VincentSmith1776
      @VincentSmith1776  3 года назад +2

      Agreed, over 2 days is good. But, keep in mind that I had the camera set to continuous recording to the local MicroSD card. So traffic volume wouldn't affect the test. Only recording events might increase battery life.

    I don't get it. How can the Wyze Cam Outdoor run 3-6 months on its 2x2600mAH batteries, while the Wyze Cam V3 depletes a 20000mAH power bank in just 55 hours?

    • @firstlast-qo8pv

      Because the WOC does not run continuously

    • @MadsPerschke
      @MadsPerschke 3 года назад

      @@firstlast-qo8pv Right, but the Wyze Cam V3 shouldn't either, unless it detects movement. I'll try setting it up in a shed with limited activity to see for how long a 10000 mAh power bank will keep it running.

    • @VincentSmith1776
      @VincentSmith1776  3 года назад +1

      The Outdoor Cam will only last about 8-10 hours if set to continuous recording like I have mine set up. Their advertised 3-6 months is based on 10 motion events per day, so 2 minutes of record and upload a day.

So somehow I need a motion detection unit that'll wake up the camera system to start recording. I want to use this setup at my Public Storage unit to keep an eye on it.

    • @VincentSmith1776

      Hey Josh - you can absolutely do that. The Wyze cams will record to a microSd card even if they lose WiFi signal. So just set up the cam in your house with WiFi then move it to your car. You wouldn't be able to view the camera from the app if it doesn't have connection though. But if you want to have it connected away from your home you can connect it to a hotspot in your car.
