This is undoubtedly the most distinctive rendition of "On My Own" I've ever heard. It's like she's turned it into a different song entirely!

Jessie J started off in musical theatre! That's her background. She was in Whistle Down The Wind in the West End. She could nail many roles in musical theatre, and sing them as they are written. She'd be amazing.

Fantine, I Dreamed a Dream. She does look like an Eponine, but this isn’t Eponine’s song. I do love the differences between her version and LuPone’s version.

I feel like I'm in the Twilight Zone because this is clearly "I Dreamed A Dream" but MDP keeps saying "On My Own" and referencing Lea Salonga. Is anybody else seeing this? Lol
    It's beautiful either way.

Is today "Prank a Musical Theater Nerd Day"? Because it's clear he knows the song he's listening to, he's singing along. But then everything else is wrong. Wrong character, wrong title, wrong scene, wrong struggle. I'm so confused, lol. I mean, the first words of the song are literally the title. 😆
Edit: Wow. Some if y'all are taking this way too seriously. It's a mistake. And far from a dire one, in the grand scheme of things. We all make mistakes, so just have a chuckle, remember even the experts have brain farts on occasion, and relax. No one died. Well. Except Fantine and her dreams...

I enjoyed this one. I noticed that she sometimes seems to fall off the last note of some of the phrases, particularly towards the end of the song. Is that the crack you’re talking about? Or, what is the name of the thing she did with some end notes? Is there a technical name for it? It’s something I do when singing sometimes, and I’m aware it’s something I intentionally chose to do stylistically, but I’ve never known what to call that. Anyway, thanks for another fantastic video. :)

I’m so confused. MDP clearly knows Les Mis. He clearly knows the difference between Fantine and Eponine. He clearly knows “this guy” is Marius.
Have I fallen into a pocket dimension? Is this version of MDP visiting from a pocket dimension? (In which case, hello pocket MDP! In this dimension this song is called “I dreamed a dream” 😘)
Why did he keep recording this saying it was On My Own? I mean Fantine introduces the musical motif of redemptive sacrifice that is the theme of On My Own and also the finale itself, but this isn’t the piece where she does that.
What happened? MDP tell me, I must know.
(Edit: also MDP you KNOW that it’s Amy Winehouse that has/had the better vocal technique! She was a legendarily technical singer. Not to knock Adele - who has a beautiful voice - but she sits in her belter until her vocal chords strain. She’s publicly had to cancel shows because of this! Am I in opposite land today? Someone help me.)
