I like to think that after Patrick realized that Janet and Marty weren’t his parents and he was reunited with his real ones, he went over to SpongeBob’s and apologized for acting like a jerk.
Also, how did Marty and Janet not know that Patrick wasn’t their son until the end?

I think the writers of the show are simply portraying that the starfish species naturally do not recognize their parents and children easily.
