The M/V Tacoma (with sister ships Puyallup and Wenatchee) is part of the largest class of ferries in the WSF fleet, the "Jumbo Mark II" class. Each Jumbo Mark II can carry 202 cars and a total (drive-on and walk-on) of 2,499 passengers. They are 460 feet (140 meters) long and have a beam of 90 feet (27 meters). They were built in 1997, '98, and '99.
Ferry cuisine is special...that ride retuning to the city on a clear nite is brilliant. This blog has a very PNW feel for weather, obviously, more about pace. Relaxed. Glad you enjoyed the visit. I particularly like fit of the music to visual context. 😎
You were in Seattle and it was raining, just like every other day there. Thank you for a great video of something I've yet to do close enough to home that I may be able to try in the next couple of years. Thank you for the wonderful style you use on the videos you post.
Every day? Hmmmm.... If you are able to get up there , give it a try in July, August or September--they're pretty reliable for sunny weather. There are few places better than a ferry ride on a brilliant clear day. Take a look at some of the other ferry videos shot in Summer.
Great video well worth the wait :-) The look on Steven's face when you said "That's my line" .....Priceless. Thanks for all the great content you produce
Hi Andrew, Very humorous dialog to open & close. Seattle is a beautiful city in the rain during the day & at night as well. The west coast ferry system operates well moving millions of passengers every year. This is an enjoyable vlog, as all your vlogs are!
Looks a lovely place to visit! Much calmer than the Isle of Wight ferry you know, where everyone is racing around trying to get their food and drink before anyone else, and with queues a mile long.
OMG What a chilled out video, Very good Andrew. Juliet has just said She feels home sick for my dads place (New Hampshire). We love real America. Thanks Juliet and Phil.
When the ferry left Seattle at the beginning you may have noticed a "small" pointy building on the right. That is the 'Smith Tower'. It was built in 1914 by Smith of the Smith Corona Typewriters. It is 38 stories high. For 42 years it was the tallest building west of the Mississippi River. At one time or another I've seen almost all those new buildings in downtown being built. As a young teen I played around the foundations for the Space Needle as it was being built (seen on the left).
Cool! Next time I am over I shall look out for it. I'm looking forward to seeing how the waterfront looks once the elevated freeway has been swept away.
Andrew, lovely look at our part of Washington State. Beautiful camera work; so clear and clean. Loved the music you chose. I'm glad you and Steven (sp) had a great time here. Cheers.
Ahoy Andrew! Welcome to my aqueous home state! Enjoy your stay. Glad to see you're enjoying our spectacular ferry system and the beautiful views it offers ^^
Not on this trip, but I have done many times in the past. You'd be surprised how easy it is to flip from right to left hand drive, especially as I drive a stick shift in the UK and (generally) automatics in the US, so they are just different beasts.
Lovely big ferry. Washington weather is more like what you must be used to. The West coast is veggie heaven too. You must have just missed all the horrendous wild fires in California. Lucky.
Cheers M&G. For years, BA had the monopoly on direct flights to London and the fares got ridiculous. Now Virgin and Norwegian also fly there, and Economy fares have halved, so it's a good time to go!
I really loved Seatle, has a nice energy to it. Only 2 left now and I'm up to date 😀 P.s. You and Stephen (hope I picked the right spelling) are a great double act!
Bainbridge is such a wonderful place to visit, eat and shop. The ferry system in Seattle area is great (IMO). Was wondering how do they compare with CalMac? Glad to see you had fun. 😊
Quite different to CalMac... bigger car decks, not quite as luxurious passenger accommodation, but both very clean and nice crews. I wonder if WSF have to cope with some of the rough seas that CalMac ferries have to cope with... looking at the design of them I'd imagine not.
Puget Sound. The waters are relatively calm. This isn't a bay, channel, sea, or ocean. Seattle is connected to the Pacific Ocean through the Strait of Juan de Fuca and Puget Sound. There is the Olympic peninsula separating Seattle from the Pacific Ocean. There is no need for protection doors.
That was the case here, Jim, you could stay on the car deck. I like CalMac in Scotland though as you can take the dog up into the accommodations with you too. Check out the CalMac Ferries playlist on my channel and you'll see! All the best.
Hallo from Germany....great video from the first to the last second. You two are so funny and he could be your big brother. Can I adopt you both? 😉Greetings from Su(talis)
Thanks for the honest feedback - always far more appreciated and infinitely more useful than a thumbs-down. At least I know why things are not working - and this video certainly hasn't gone down as well as I would have expected. Cheers!

Very interesting, thank you! Different to the CalMac ferries we have here in Scotland :)

Thanks David! Oh yes, and Tater Tots are my new favourite thing! :)

That's lovely to hear, thank you so much. I hope you manage to do it soon, it's a lovely day out and Bainbridge is gorgeous.

After 37 years of friendship, we do make quite a good double-act ;@) Thank YOU for your support, Dave!

Thanks Bob! Yes, a very impressive operation that Washington State Ferries has there.
Looks a lovely place to visit! Much calmer than the Isle of Wight ferry you know, where everyone is racing around trying to get their food and drink before anyone else, and with queues a mile long.
Indeed, it was a very civilised experience Simon!

Cheers J&P! It really is a lovely place.
Superb photography, so easy to watch. Really enjoyed this vlog Andrew 👍🏻😄
Thanks very much Trevor!
So glad to see that the issue was sorted out quickly. I hope it didn’t set you back too much. Keep it coming love your stuff.
Cheers! Sadly had quite an impact on the views and lost about 60%, but hey... just got to keep plugging.
Right watched it several times now to try and make up the loss 👍
Ha ha! Thank you :)

Thank you! Oh yes, LOVING the Pacific North West :)
Rode the Ferry daily from Bainbridge Is. to Seattle for 6 years. Usually a good ride and a chance to relax and read the paper. I miss those days.
How much is it? For 1 person.?
Did you drive a car at all in the US? If you did, how did it feel driving in the left seat with the shifter in the right hand? Dyslexic/Lexdysic?
Not on this trip, but I have done many times in the past. You'd be surprised how easy it is to flip from right to left hand drive, especially as I drive a stick shift in the UK and (generally) automatics in the US, so they are just different beasts.
being from Seattle, and missing the ferries enjoyed...would have loved to hear the wounds of the ferry ride.....thanks
Wonderful

Yes, I was in California at just the right time Annette. Washington State certainly helped acclimatise me for coming back to the UK!
What a great vlog and really makes me want to visit the lesser visited US cities

can we fly drone in here? i dont know if its safe to fly a drone in the ferry i just want to have a video of the ferry lol
Fun fun video!
Thank you!

Cheers Mads! We've been best mates for over 35 years :)
Great video Andrew, really miss Seattle, lived there for 18 years , now in boring Cornwall
MISS YOU GOOD MORNING LUCK FREEY BREMERTON
If you get lucky, you can see Orca whales sometimes.
Cool! None seen on this trip unfortunately.
Awesome vlog!
Thank you!

Why don't these ferries have protection doors from the front and back?

Great video Mr D. As a dog owner, I like ferries in America and Canada, as some services will let you stay on the car deck.
That was the case here, Jim, you could stay on the car deck. I like CalMac in Scotland though as you can take the dog up into the accommodations with you too. Check out the CalMac Ferries playlist on my channel and you'll see! All the best.
Really great job!#314 just joined Have a nice week
I'm watching this video because I've never taken the ferry before and want to see what the procedure is.
Hallo from Germany....great video from the first to the last second. You two are so funny and he could be your big brother. Can I adopt you both? 😉Greetings from Su(talis)
Ha ha! I;m glad you liked it, thank you. And as for adoption... well, we both need supervising! ;@)
I can do that - I‘m kindergarten teacher 😄 and men are sometimes nothing but little boys... greets (magic route)
I waited in my car for about an hour just to get to the dock. Some people don't know about that
I live in Washington
Both of you 💋💋
Back at you! :) xx
00:30 you said it ;)
1:00 Mustache ferry
This was nice but I prefer your other videos more.
I see enough fake smiling Heather's (or whatever her name is) here in the US to last me a lifetime.
