I hope this helps to explain why the Emperor did what he did (it was my answer to someone’s comment):
Ruyi wanted to be free of all entanglements. Hence no last letter to him and burning her half of their portrait. He understood and finally gave her what she wanted. Erasing her from palace records was him finishing cutting the rest of her entanglements to him, just as he knows she would have wished.
Even her burial and final resting site meant that their souls would not be bound to each other even in the afterlife (as it would have been within the Chinese belief system if she was buried as his Empress). What he did was actually the only decent thing he ever did for her. He finished cutting all ties that bound her to him emotionally, legally and historically because of her status. So in that sense he actually fulfilled her ultimate wish, which was to be truly free - free of him and of her life in the palace. No entanglements left between them, even in the afterlife.
The Emperor finally understood how much pain he caused her when he realised the price and magnitude of the freedom Ruyi wanted from her love for him. It left him a broken man, which was poetic justice but it was not because Ruyi wanted revenge. She was too good for that. She just wanted peace and a complete break from their love that caused her so much pain.
Him putting his lock of hair with hers symbolised that he was now letting go as well. With his death, the final entanglement (his memory of her) was now broken. Both now truly free from each other, so the plum tree blossomed.

About him putting his lock of hair together with hers, I think it was not really let go. Ancient Chinese Husbands and wived would tie their hair together symbolised that they were true married couple. Only with main wife not the concubines. I rather think that he accepted Ruyi as his real wife on his death bed. The green plum tree did not blossome for so long as their relationship were torned apart. So when he accepted her at the end so the green plum tree which was the symbol of their love blossomed.

@@sexycspan1. He erased all traces of Ruyi from the palace and from official records because that was what she wanted. She wanted to cut all ties to him and to erase her existence in history as his wife and empress. Her wishes were demonstrated by the things she did just before her death like refusing to take back her empress position and burning her half of their commemorative portrait.
There was a conversion he had with the empress dowager after Ruyi died. The Empress Dowager told him to think it through carefully because he might come to regret it on a personal level and it might also reflect badly not only for Ruyi but for him too. He said Ruyi wanted nothing to do with him or the empress seat and so he will not force it on her. The Empress Dowager then understood the true intention behind his actions. He was only mouthing off a list of things Ruyi did that offended him as a surface justification to protect himself from his overwhelming sense of regret and guilt. She said that she understood he was in fact setting Ruyi free as Ruyi wanted.
From the outside his actions after Ruyi died seemed callous, but it was actually him finally doing something for Ruyi instead of for himself. He even built a plum blossom palace (Ruyi's favourite flowers) like he was now trying to do the things he should have done for her when she was alive. He became semi-recluse in that palace he had built. Seems he did spend the rest of his life filled with penitence for his wrong doings towards Ruyi. Yes, he deserved his lonely and miserable ending but I think all the things he did after Ruyi's death was done in repentance, not malice.

This is the real point of this story, IMO. All of the women in this story are living tragedies-Ruyi was simply the only one who made it through with her morals intact.
And where did that tragedy come from? For the most part, men. Yuyan was pushed away from her lover so he could have influence with the emperor; Langhua was terrified that she wasn't enough because the emperor wanted Ruyi to be his first wife; even Ling suffered, being low class and always held below her brother.
These women did horrible things, but many of those things could have been avoided if the men and the society treated them better.

If you noticed the scene she actually watered the plant with her medicine, hoping the plant could regrow again and the withered plant did mean her relationship with the emperor, it was as if she put their relationship as a bet on the possiblity of resucitating the plant. The dormant plant would imply their dormant relationship while if the plant lived, there's a chance of their reconcilation.

So much drama we put ourselves and each other thru. Is it really worth all that trouble in the end? She made such a great Empress, mother figure to the country and to everyone. She was forgiving, compassionate, yet punished when she had to, not before a thorough investigation. And yet she took on so much bullshit... because she loved him. And she had Class and remained in control of herself no matter what. Ruyi was definitely a QUEEN, worth so much more than the entire harem put together. And the emperor never understood tbis, not until she was gone. So sad. They would have been such a powerful couple. I guess it doesn't work that way in a harem system. The subtitle mistranslated a part in the conversation between the Emperor and the Empress Dowager. She questioned him why did he announce that Ruyi has 薨 (hōng) rather than 崩 (bēng). Both of these two words mean 'died'. But 薨 is used when a Consort passed away. As Ruyi is the Empress, by protocol, she should have been announced as 崩, which is the way to announce when an Emperor or Empress passed away.
By announcing that Ruyi has 薨, the Emperor indeed caused many ruckus as to whether he has deposed Ruyi's Empress position or not.

Such a narcissistic, prideful, and self indulgent man, ruled by temporary lusty pleasure... he betrayed and slowly killed the only true and faithful love of his life, Ruyi. Cutting herself out of the picture, not leaving him last words or a letter were her final acts of revenge for the many, many wrongs she endured bcz of him! He will have to deal with the pain, remorse and loneliness of her absence the remainder of his years! He erased her from history under the auspices of "setting her free"...

    • @ameliarose727
      @ameliarose727 3 года назад +13

No. It wasn’t revenge. No entanglements left between them.

Lol tbh, Story of Yanxi Palace is much more unrealistic than Ruyi's Royal. Wei Ying Luo's plot armor is so thick that it kept her safe from all situations. A lowly maid talking back to the Emperor himself? That's certain death right there (and she's almost got it). Yanxi Palace is just kinda too generic and forgettable. That's not the case with Ruyi's Royal, where every single scene has multiple layers of meaning to them that you wouldn't be able to understand watching for only one time. To be brutally honest, Yanxi Palace is fun and is suitable with the public's taste, but just like a trend, the film doesn't stay very long. Ruyi's Royal, on the other hand, is still spoken of and discussed even though both have been aired for 2 years now.

Atleasr here in the show ruyi got a respected death and burial. In real history everything pointed at how much he hated her and he erased her existance to despise her not to respect her. And she was never released as a free but still buried as slave of the emperor empire. She didn't even got a proper burial, she had to share a burial with a concubine with a very cheap casket that is anticipated is used only for the lowest ranking maid.

Actually there was some evidence that suggested that Empress Nala received special privileges before she became empress (even though she didn't have any kids until she became empress, when she was pretty old to bear a child). So the emperor could have loved her alot before she cut her hair. He even remarked that 'She must have hated me for a very long time'. People say that the more you loved them before, the more you will hate them. I guess there is some truth to it

I know the Ruyi's drama is fictional (some things) and it varies from real historic events, but I've always wondered in the drama who was chosen to be the next Empress Dowager, I hope it would be Consort Yu (Hailan) she proved to be a real asset to the imperial family, she had the experience, the skill, the desire and goodwill to keep the peace in the palace. 💜

Hey! I’m a bit late here but I wanted to answer your question. The next Emperor was 15th prince Yongyan (Consort Ling’s son). When he ascended the throne her mother was already dead, which means no one became the Empress Dowager. A woman can only become the ED by one of this two reasons:
      1. Your son becomes the Emperor and of course you’re still alive.
      2. You’re the Empress aka the main wife, so you will be the ED, even if the next Emperor is the son of another consort/concubine.
Consort Yu never held the title of ED, though she received the posthumous title of Noble Consort Yu when she died.
      Hope that helped!

In this show the emporer just liked the ones that used him to get rich and did everything he said even though some of them things might be bad for him, but these people just hurt his children and innocent people. But he thinks the ones that truly loved him and cared for him and tried to let him realise his mistakes to protect him were "annoying", which made theses people become heart broken and don't love him anymore. The emporer only realises that a person is important to him and truly cared for him when they're dead or don't love him anymore.
