@Jay Jay I don't think we should look at it the same way black people don't have the same history in Asiatic countries as they do in America and UK. Racism shouldn't be brought up because they are homogenous countries. They are tribalist, at best.
Great interview. And I salute Mr. Dante Carver. Mr. Carver brings me back to a place when as we visited public places my young children would stare at Black folk and I tried to avoid the situation, it made me uncomfortable thinking it made Black folk uncomfortable. I never had THE conversation with my Black friends as I never made distinctions in color, race, etc.. Subconsciously I think of color and race as a natural preference like flavors, drink preferences like lemonade over Sprite. I guess.. Then I realized... if I had lived and raised my children in Africa we would be the ones being stared at. So Mr. Carver makes very important points starting at 21:57. People may not be generally racist but when you are used to something and suddenly you're hit with something out of the norm, people that are used and very comfortable with one thing, one dimension may be thrown out of balance when presented suddenly with something different. And their indifference may have nothing to do with race. I solute Dante Carver for his bravery in breaking barriers and the host for quality programming. Great job to both for opening up the conversation to give us another clear view and direction to some that misconstrue some signs for racism. Thank gentlemen, be well. 🙏🏻

There's something about him that reminds me of Frankie Light. It's his personality. Him liking martial arts movies. His admiration for Danzel Washington, Larry Fishburn, Will Smith, Bruce Lee. What shocks me is he didn't even mention Jim Kelly. Far as Black martial artists Jim Kelly, Ron van Clief, Carl Scott, Steve James etc.. I give him a lot of credit because lots of people were doubt about him making it in a foreign land. He proved them wrong big time. Another example Arnold back in the day, everyone was saying he wasn't going to make it big in Hollywood. He proved them wrong and he became one of the biggest action star in Hollywood. There's always going to be haters. Haters coming from your own kind and from the other kind. In Asia black people aren't expose to Asian people like Caucasian people are expose to countries like Japan, Vietnam, South Korea, China, Thailand, Philippines... Mr Carver made a good point. A lack of exposer. A lack of exposer of black people. There are so many people that aren't expose to us but they are expose to rap music. Black music, black artist , black culture, black swagger, black style, black language, black talk. All of these things they like about us. However as a people we are being disrespected with the blackface shown in South Korea, United States, China etc. After all these years you figured some parts of Asia would have known by now that displaying blackface is very offensive to black people.. The things they are shown comes straight from America. Dante didn't fall for their tricks by trying to convince him into playing a stereo type of black male from the 70's, 80's, 90's. I can't believe they are still doing that in 2021. Certain roles I can't blame for refusing. Another reason why Jim Kelly didn't appear a lot on the big screen because he refuse to play those negative parts. . You know I can't think of the brother name but he is originally from New York and lives in Japan. His nick name begins with a R.. For some reason I can't find his you tube channel. Woah this is awesome interviewing the awesome Dante Carver of Japan is it okay you can interview Alexander Hamilton of the benza fame one day this is one of the greatest episodes on your channel.
Please keep some certain standard questions like the following: 1) where are you from originally? (like specifics, not just USA) 2) how would you contrast living back home to living in Japan? 3) what advice would you give to new comers to Japan? 4) describe your experiences dating/marying in Japan 5) how do the police treat you in Japan? Otherwise good video as usual
I see how you came up with these, but. Out of those questions, no.1 and no.5 are I think pretty inappropreate for him to answer. He's still an active professional actor. Answering these questions can endanger his future carrier in US.
That train references is so true. I was in JP in 95, traveling on the train and I saw that. Didn't occur to me at first, then the light bulb... I still loved the visit, culture, country. Met a lot of great ppl there.
I have watched most of your videos and this one too! Keep up the great work Family. I am a big fan of your content. Great prosperity to you and your family 🙏🏾🌌
Thank you for this video and your channel, your channel truly shows the experience of being black in Japan. I tell you one thing; becoming successful and integrate into an Asian culture is one hundred percent more doable in Japan then trying to be successful or famous in China or Korea. China and Korea has a deep rooted prejudice toward people of color. Yes, Japan has people that are prejudice but, one thing about Japanese people that I do know is that, if you truly learn their culture and their language you have the opportunity to become successful. The doors will actually open up to you. China is the exact opposite, they don't care and they will not let you in regardless of your respect for their culture and knowledge of the language.
Agree 1000% as far as Japanese folk are concerned. If it's evident that you are genuinely interested in their culture and that you put in the work to learn their language, Japanese people will give you SOOOOO much respect. You won't even have to do anything to have doors open for you. They will open the doors for you just based off of how well you can enunciate the Japanese language. Well, that was my experience anyway. 😅
@@thedragonofechigo7878 Morning / afternoon. I agree with you that in general most people will respect you for learning their language. However with Japanese it's different. Japanese folk are real heavy on respect. They know that their language is difficult. They know that most foreigners aren't trying to learn their language let alone their customs. So when a foreigner takes the time to learn these things, especially if you're black because of all the negative stereotypes/reports that Japanese people have heard about us, it's a really big deal to them. For context, if I'm in a Spanish speaking country and I speak Spanish nobody bats an eye. In Japan, Japanese people will often comment how well I speak Japanese or how impressed they are that I know and observe their customs. That has opened many doors for me in the past. I haven't had those experiences say in Costa Rica or Mexico. Yeah I'm sure they appreciate that I speak Spanish, but it's not on the same level as me speaking Japanese in Japan.
@@Yuki.Hinode You are 100% correct and I can relate! China and Korea on the other hand are different. For some reason both countries have a deep rooted prejudice towards Black People. I am not sure if it has something to do with historical servitude and colonialism or what but, it is disturbing to say the least.
@@Yuki.Hinode so when it comes to the Japanese, they have far more respect for a foreigner who at least cares about thier customs and language and so it defuses any sort of assumptions between you and them especially as a black person which is odd even though I am black myself. I've invested a great deal of time learning about the history of the Samurai and not just the famed warring states period but the earlier periods such as the Nanboku-cho or the time before that when the Kamakura Bakufu ruled the country, I know most, if not all the emperors such as Go-daigo, Go-Fushimi, Go-yozei, Go-Shirakawa and so many that I can't name here but I have invested a great deal of time learning about the historical side of Japan since it does tie into the Samurai class of course and I have been learning their language albeit, yes it is hard to speak it in full but simple phrases or shorter sentences are easier for me to say.

Very interesting and informative wasn't aware of him as an actor but I'll have to check him out now. Thank you great interview
I remember hearing about him years ago…glad to see he’s still on the move 😊
Always wondered who this guy was doing reactions with Akasan, now I know duh! Thanks for sharing your life, its quite inspiring especially since I am considering taking my Cyber skills to Japan..
Utada HIkaru!!! Oh man this guy is my generation! Loved her back in the late 90s and early 00s!
Keep up the good work, Mr. Carver!
I'm living here in Japan and man I've experienced some hurdles. This is a very interesting interview.
Wow very open and insightful yet inspiring. So much appreciation and respect for both of you.
Thank you for bringing us his story and thank him for sharing.
Keep breaking these barriers
Woah this is awesome interviewing the awesome Dante Carver of Japan is it okay you can interview Alexander Hamilton of the benza fame one day this is one of the greatest episodes on your channel.
Brother has a very humble demeanor I was thinking it would be wonderful for so many others too possess those qualities...
This was cool to watch and learn from .
Please keep some certain standard questions like the following:
1) where are you from originally? (like specifics, not just USA)
2) how would you contrast living back home to living in Japan?
3) what advice would you give to new comers to Japan?
4) describe your experiences dating/marying in Japan
5) how do the police treat you in Japan?
Otherwise good video as usual
Dante keeps his relationship status strictly private, so it's no surprise that no questions were asked in that regard.
It’s nice seeing this a bit more as it’s more unique his life and experience feels natural especially the car ride.
I see how you came up with these, but. Out of those questions, no.1 and no.5 are I think pretty inappropreate for him to answer. He's still an active professional actor. Answering these questions can endanger his future carrier in US.
Super dope interview
Really enjoyed this
This is how you do an interview 👏 🙌 🙏 👌 💪 👍. Just perfect 🥰 💞 👌 👍 ❤ 😍 🥰 .

I love this interview 🙌 ❤ ♥ 👏
Great interview
That train references is so true. I was in JP in 95, traveling on the train and I saw that. Didn't occur to me at first, then the light bulb... I still loved the visit, culture, country. Met a lot of great ppl there.

Shout out to you Akasan, i love seeing you and Dante react to videos
That dog commercial is either pure genius or absolute madness…
@@Yuki.Hinode now that's interesting but I think that is universal. You know someone's language, they will respect more for it.
Takeaway=Talent + Hard work+ determination can pay off. Don't be afraid to be different.
Great interview. All you needed was a singing bit and it could have been Ranzo's version of James Corden's Carpool Karaoke hahaha
😂🙏🏿
Great outlook on life. Prove yourself to the world. I pray many youth have the occasion to view this video.
I’m amazed! When I was trying to learn Japanese back in the 2000s was Utada Hikaru & M-Flo!
