- In A Relaxed Mood - Harry James
MGM SE4274
Recorded Las Vegas March 1964
The story is that this album was recorded in the middle of the night, after the Harry James Orchestra’s last set at the Flamingo Hotel.
There were no arrangements, just like a real Jazz setting in a small intimate club.
The Band was:
Harry James-Trumpet
Corky Corcoran-Tenor sax
Ray Sims-trombone
Jack Perciful-Piano
Red Kelly-Bass
Buddy Rich-Drums
Guy Scalise-Guitar
1. I Surrender Dear
2. Spring Can Really Hang You Up The Most
3. My Funny Valentine
4. For All We Know
5. I Cover the Waterfront
6. Rockin’ Chair
7. That’s All
8. Lazy River
9. Don’t Blame Me Time on MY Hands
10. Time on My Hands - Видеоклипы
Another good album by him that was never released in cd form but should have been.
Great album, thanks Chuck
Dang, Harry is in full jazz form here. Sounding boppish at times. Dizzy would dig it. Corky has his best Coleman Hawkins on for this one. And of course, BR driving the train. Sounds like these guys had a lot of fun doing this.
My dad has this record when I was a kid but I don't remember ever listening to it. Saw it in a used record store a few weeks ago and bought it. A lot different than what I was expecting, which was an "easy listening" type thing. But yeah, this is much more straight jazz, even if "relaxed," and absolutely none the worse for it.
