James was right about the LS400, people love them now!
Especially in VIP culture. It is an amazing car kickstarting Lexus
Richard said it looks hideous, but I think it's actually a pretty good looking car.
Why? Nothing against the car, I just want to know.
Audi A4 2.5 TDI as if the car you are was more reliable. Audi’s are complete garbage, at least Lexus lasts.
Oh crap I have a 2018 Audi Q5, never mind.
Audi A4 2.5 TDI I live in Tennessee and compared to old Audi’s there are wayyyyy more old Japanese cars like Lexus’ still on the road. Barely any people keep old European cars here except for people that really love them.
It's a shame that they didn't continue this. Explaining why some cars become classic (and some other won't) would have been awesome and interesting at the same time.
Agreed.
I imagine that after TGT ends, We'll get some kind of info show from the lads.
Yeah I really wish they kept this one going over the cool wall! That said I think it would be hard to pinpoint and explain why some will or won’t be future classics! Of course to someone out there almost every car is a future classic but in terms of the ones that are generally agreed upon to the point they become expensive to get hold of again then it’s hard to say what it is, in a lot of cases it could be defined as “character” that the car has even though that in itself is hard to define! It’s odd, you kinda need a general feel for cars and and it kind of develops your gut feeling on what will and won’t but it’s hard to actually explain
Some cars though already have a cult following as it is and so future versions are practically guaranteed to be classic! For example BMW’s! I’ve got an e30 1987 325is M-Tech 1 which is rarer than most hyper cars and I just knew it would shoot up in value, I bought it as a rough shape car with no log book for £900! Done nothing to it so far but plan to restore it but for now I’m just sitting on it and they’re already more like £15k-£20k classics now and climbing! But I knew that would go up because it’s a rare bmw and it has M power heritage and a good story of how it came to be and why there’s so few of them, and M cars have a massive fan cult following and this is a rare one so I knew it ticked all the boxes!
I’ve also got an e60 M5 which I’ve got a gut feeling will be a future classic too, again it’s BMW and an M car which helps, but then there’s in this case the legendary s85 5.0L V10 engine which is an actual legend among engines and won all sorts of stuff, but the e60 was also the last M car to have a big v10 high revving “race engine” that’s naturally aspirated which bmw always said that turbos are a cheap lazy way of getting power and they believe in an engines raw power without gadgets so this means a lot to bmw purists! And because of that, and it being the last naturally aspirated M car ever then that will score points and make it a much more collectible car too!
Like I said there’s no real one thing to pin it to as my e30 is because of rareness and it’s story of how it came to be but the e60 is the last of the Titans in terms of raw engine power over turbos etc! But for other cars it could just be a look or the way it drove or a big one is how it made people feel and that’s hard to define too!
The proof that James is the only one who truly knows something about cars.
it was priceless when Hammond held up the Citreon Xm and you could hear Clarkson in the backround "oh for good sake!" lol
Mac Korince very very late but true 😂😂😂😂😂
So true.
11 years late
He sold his Ford GT RIGHT before it went super expensive.
Again with the Clarkson timing
buy high sell low
He also bought now a GTV6 again and a Jeep, which means they will depreciate
James and Richard should pay more attention to Jeremy's biggest triumph, his blue Ford Escort Cosworth (that I bid on when he auctioned it off). He made enough profit on that car alone to completely wipe out the losses on all of the other cars.
Young Frankenstein:... ridiculous cars... !!!
What did it sell for please?
Young Frankenstein cosworth? You mean "cozzeh"
@@adenlamb9916 _That's_ what Cozzeh is supposed to be? I thought it was spelled as like "carsa" or "kahzeh" or something.
I guess you could call it r/woooshteschire
Well, thats only how yorkshiremen pronounce it. Cossie is another name for them.
The board only appeared once..wish they would have continued this..
EDIT: Just found out that there's Classic/Crock segments which means they've done twice.
hashrulsubzero maybe they can bring this in the Grand Tour
I wonder if BBC has the rights to that creation :P
hashrulsubzero they might have done it a couple more times, but just not included it in the edited version. The BBC probably don't have the rights to the wall if they only used it once.
did that include Top Gear when he sold his share of the rights to the BBC?
You could ad to it the Renault Wind and Avantime, the Peugeot 406 coupe and the Fiat Panda 4x4
0:59, I lost it when Jeremy went "Oh for gods sake"
Richard: "The Lexus LS isn't beautiful!"
Also Richard: *suggests a pig-ugly Citroen*
Lexus LS400: Smoothly designed.
Citreon XM: door wedge
i like those old wedge citroens... but they were so poorly made... not worth having these days
@@LoneWolf-wp9dn if you want one get a 98 or 99 model v6. Very reliable cars. If you just take care of it, it ll last a very long time. The early xms ruined it for the rest of them with their electronical issues. Late xm models are perfectly reliable cars. My dad used to have one that had done over 220k miles. For the 10 years that he owned it it only once didnt start because of a bad battery. The 3.0 V6 is one of psa's greatest works. The diesels are not bad either
@@petrichor446 oh for God’s sakes...
Haha the Ls can dream with a XM suspension, the citro is weird which have more personality, the lexus is a copy W140 without the Mercedes Benz charisma.
E9 csl sold for £2000 , damn they are 50k plus now
100K now
50000000000000K now
200,000 USD now
Half of a cheese sandwich and a Mars bar
Thirty seconds in and they already get one wrong. The LS 400 is a real gem of a car, and pretty sought after in certain circles.
This went from "look at this classic/crock car" to "let's laugh at Jeremy" really quickly XD
Funny cause the ls400 is actually kinda sought after. Very beautiful car if you do them up right. Toyota celsiors will sell for 15-20k plus these days
James is the most sensible 😅
Jeremy sucks at buying cars 😆 1:08
Richard has poor taste 😬
The Honda S2000 is definitely going to be a future classic.
Honda is trying to sell the S2000 again , with modern facelift lol
Arguably already is a classic really
Jack Cooper yeah they are already creeping up in value, but the prices will fly to the sky in a few years
I believe it is still the highest revving production car engine of all time, and naturally aspirated at that. Absolute dream material
Ah yes, a future classic for future hair dressers.
"...and how much was it worth a year later?" XD
despite all this jeremy clarkson remains as one of the worlds best investors.
How?
love it when Jeremy clarkson goes...''oh for god sake'' lol
This is a segment they should have continued because it’s certainly interesting hearing this years after the fact.
The ls400 and the last toyota celica are definitely going to be future classics
James has a right prediction on the Lexus LS400. I mean even I see it as another Japanese generic big luxury car. But that's probably me, I read a lot of 1997 Road & Track magazines, and no indication of a bold prediction that the LS400 will be a future classic. I thought it would be the Mercedes-Benz S class. But it turned out, it became the opposite. The Mercedes-Benz has lots of unreliable electronics. Also I didn't pay attention to what my cousin said to me 15 years ago, he bet that the 1997 Toyota Camry will someday be desirable, and he will buy one. It did, and he owns one today, and it really aged like fine wine.
jeremy clarkson ' oh for god sake' lol
So, any cars for sale now Jeremy? 😂
jace888 hahaha your so funny donald
VW corrado g60.Not only a future classic but a contemporary piece of technology and beauty...Once you see it's front headlights you'll never going to forget them.
Funnily enough Jeremy bought another GTV6 in red many years later for a challenge episode in The Grand Tour and this time I believe it was priced a bit over ten grand or something
he ended up keeping it afterwards
there's also Clarkson's CLK63 Black which holds its value really well
These are all classics now!
Love watching this in quarantine
James was right on the money with LS400, not rare but very well-built and launched lexus as a brand
The GC8 Impreza's are definitely classic cars now.
I remember when I saw a Gc8 sat there since November last year:(
Brilliant as always
Man that Ferrari 355, what a beauty that was...
Out of all the Ferraris, I think I'd only buy (assuming I could afford to run one obviously) that 355 dimepiece, the Daytona or the 599 fiorano
Wildfire the 599 is too big
I think the Lexus is actually a classic now (especially the V8s)... Shut up Hammond
The ls430s especially were and still are remarkable!
All Lexus from that era and earlier are still really desirable and reliable!
@@thetman0068 Completely agree. I'm considering getting a Lexus IS200 for my next car. They are very well put together, 6 speed gearbox, 6 cylinders and classic Toyota reliability. Plus you can dig quite a bit of power out of that 2.0 I6 with either a turbo or a supercharger
I've looked online and it seems the GS 400s are impossible to find now. Saw one with 90k for 10,000$ Uzz32 Soarers are cheaper than that
@@danielcastaneda7801 That's the LS400
The Fiat Panda!
Wee Scottish Nutter it's the car of the time
Which one the old 1980s one or the 2000s one because the 1980s ones are nice fun little cars the 2000s one are horrible, nasty, dreadful, horrible to drive cars
i think the lexus could be a future classic because it was the first car from japan that actually taught the germans a lesson. in 20 years, i bet an ls400 in good condition would be worth a lot.
Now in 2020, i looked and they are still pretty cheap.
holy crap, you were absolutely right, there are going for 12-14k euros atm
they just proved clarckson has an eye for classics
selfsenter but no eye for a deal
It's not the car, but Jeremy's name that made his car in demand.
rare, beautiful or interesting, it's the Pagani Zondas of course
Obviously
At that time they were knew
I think the LS400 is a glorious motor! I've wanted one for all of the nearly thirty odd years they've been about! I've owned and/or driven most things because of my job, but only ever ONE, very badly looked after LS400. & I'd love to have stuck one on the bloke who owned it, just for treating it like he did!!! He was a farmer/landowner, and used this lovely limo to drive hay and feed around the land to his animals! AND (get THIS!) he also owned a perfectly usable Landrover Defender!!!!!!!!!!!
1:01 just saw one of these today
The 2009 528i is indeed a classic.
The E60 5 series is not going to be a classic. The older E39 will be.
Also the Ls400 is a really beautiful Lexus I'd also love to own one
I have proposal for Classic wall, Ford Probe. Mk1 or Mk2, doesn’t matter. Both are rare, both were beautiful cars and the Mk1 was interesting because it’s story was one to be a Mustang replacement
I got a 1990 Citroen XM with almost 300000 km on the clock and it is not as unreliable as people say. Most people that claim the XMs unreliability has NEVER owned an XM, I'll tell you that! Or... they have owned one but doesn't know how it works. They are not as complicated as people claim them to be! Hell, they are a lot easier to repair than an LS400, just saying. ;)
True, but a well-maintained Lexus doesn't go wrong as much as an XM, and people don't trust French cars anyway...
h8u4ever My dad had one years ago and it always made me carsick. It was extremely comfy, to which my body said: this is weird, somethings wrong. Right, must be that lunch we had, out with it!
He then got a C5 estate, which was horrible. Then got a C5 estate 2nd gen... of which I shoved the engine and gearbox over a concrete curb on the way back from a job interview. Yes, I did get the job.
But all had hydropneumatic suspension and all were extremely comfy.
2:21 a top gear top tip
since bmw is the only german car brand really daring to build "differently designed" cars, they'll have tons of classics in 2020 or so...
the 6series
the z3 (is already a classic!)
the 3coupe
the 5series...
all going to be classics!!
And now Lexus is a classic
the title should be "jeremy got *B O G G E D*"
'yeeeeees future classic, marvellous' :)
we did see this wall after this ever again this is why I want them back on top gear
LOVE THE LEXUS LS400but the one May shows is the facelifted second generation
Jeremy buy, you sell. He sell, you buy.
😂😂
You should put on the Classic side the Audi Quattro Sport
thx to Jeremy every car is classic, lol!
All cars have beauty, cept my 2002 Ford Taurus
0:34 hes right! when i drive throuh a neiborhood near me i see 5 of them.
@jjaaccaammii he has sold the lambo because people in supermini (french) keep racing against it. think he's got an SLS now.
That bmw csl was a beauty
The Citroen XM is already a classic
YeeSoest (3 days ago)
the z3 (is already a classic!)
I agree
i think the mkI gti is already a classic. it is hard to spot future classics, but i think the alfa brera will be one, as will the bmw 8 series and the new mk1 vw scirocco (although is the new one technically the mk2?)
11 years later....
The z1 had mad doors = guaranteed classic status
+j1mmyZeta It already is
Is that Matt Farah's Million Mile Lexus?
Jeremy’s “FOR GODS SAKE”
wut about Scion xb first gen or the tc?
i'm trying to imagine a mini-laughing-james... :P
james may has a great voice :P
at the moment or in total?
The ls400 is very popular and very classic now especially with the bippu people
Yep that's what I was about the say. Getting up with the 240s and stuff where so many become modded we need clean examples as well.
they should have added make to the criteria
USA version? Is it any good, I've only seen Whose line is it anyway in the UK
Jeremy buys, you sell, he’s selling, you buy!
my dad has a '94 ls 400 with 200k miles near perfect condition
The Lexus is beautiful
I've always thought so and they're reportedly super reliable too. I know people who've put hundreds of thousands of km's on theirs.
Imagine how rich Jeremy would be if he kept these cars for longer?
Wise words from May
why have they not tested the saleen s7?
I'm adding the following as well..
Vauxhall Carlton (Lotus)
Nissan GTR R33 and R34
Also Vauxhall Senator
It was funny when Clarkson said get out the way 🤣
that was the Z1
volvo 850R classic cars, they dont get much respect but i love them especially the 850 t5-R only 6000 ever made worldwide
1:44 the fact these are like £150,000 there about now is crazy he must really be gutted..
Datsun Skyline GT-R 1971 is a very nice Classic car =D
BMW 8 series for sure! I love that car!
Of course also the 1980s 635csi
The current Lamborghini Lineup will be a classic. The LP670 Superveloce is the last Murcielago and their will be an upcoming LP560-4 Superleggera might be the Last Gallardo. Another would be the Mclaren Mercedes SLR.
What about the Lotus Carlton and Vauxhall VX220?
2:19 - 2:23
A rule of the cool wall №1
0:25 crack keanu reeves behind james
gud one mate.. .!!!
JEREMY BUY YOU SELL
HE SELLS YOU BUY...
hahaahahah lolz...
actually man im thinking of buying an R34 once i get a drivers license i mean it only costs around 20 quid here in dubai which is pretty cheap
Audi RS2
The ls400 is sick
"Oh for God's Sake!"
the chuck does not fail foolish mortal!
the Lexus is future classic
May owned Clarkson XD
He was right with the Lexus though
Clarkson may be a bit pompous but he takes self deprecation well. Gives him a real human quality.
LOL, ring up clarkson " Pardon me are you buying a car soon??.......yes? THANK YOU! " YES SELL! SELL SELL!!
you have a point there sir.
Funniest thing is that James is right. The LS400 is a beloved classic in the US
It's also a classic in the UK
