But, much like driving a car or handling a fire arm; these are tools best approached with a measured hand and instruction from those with previous experience. I very much hope you continue to focus on biology when exploring antibiotics and antiseptics. I hope you enlist the aid of biologists and researchers much like you did in understanding photo-pigments.

I've been dealing with tank uglies/algae/slime for months after upgrading to a 40B. Glad to see you overcome so much on a larger tank. Learning a lot by watching various brs playlists. Look forward to the release of new episodes of 52SE each week. Congrats on sorting out the 360!
I've had a 180 gallon up and running for 4 years and experienced a few small scale failures and learned a lot on my way to what I consider a very successful mixed reef tank. I have recently moved and have upgraded to a 330 gal (400gal total volume). I am intrigued by the 360 and the challenges you've had with it. I am looking forward to learning with and from you as I get my setup running and hopefully thriving.

I believe the issue was the front pane was too heavy to not be supported and ~10% of that first batch was affected. I was told to look out for the silicone coming away from the glass and sand working it's way in., When we saw that it was time to move the corals, I didn't want to wait for an emergency.
I’ve commented before on other videos of this series and seeing a lot of hate about how this is “boring” or “stretched out”. I like that this a more deep dive so to say over the hobby and setting up a tank. Still patiently waiting for updates on that LPS collection tank. Thanks to that video I’m already planning on using Tampa Bay live rock and sand for my revamp of my Reefer 250
I’m a new reefer. My first tank was during the OG 52 weeks last episodes. Watched them all. Watched the Ryan and Randy Investigates, the Matthew series and Thomas product reviews. Needed all of them; and rewatched many as science/chemistry/biology is not my thing. My AIO nano mixed reef struggled but brought joy because of Ryan which led to me believing I could do this. If it wasn’t for a major move during Covid, I would have kept that tank. Fast forward to today, I saved my money and went big with a 75 gallon DT with a sump. Because of this new 52 weeks, I added TBS sand like Ryan did and rubble in the sump. Added biome, I.e,, Galaxy pods. Put in a UV sterilizer. All due to Ryan’s methodical videos AND repeating the important stuff. This is not boring; mixed in are his personal experiences which again gives us new reefers confidence. It was important for me to hear what they repeated in the different tanks. Remember, this is a very difficult hobby; especially if you chose to do a mixed reef that has not only beginner, but intermediate corals and fish. I look forward to the entire series and yes, this is season 1 💕

Couldn’t agree more with the future-forward concept. When I’m having issues with my tank/corals/fish or just aren’t sure I’m doing it right, I go back to these videos and gosh darnit, I hear something new or that I missed. I in fact learn by repetition, I don’t grasp science topics easily. Not to mention my tank is plugging along and even though I’m about 2 months in, I have confidence to deal with what has and what will come. I forgot to add that I am also ordering all my fish from Elliot.
Using fresh rock and sand direct from the ocean is the best thing ever. My latest tank I set up was just that, TBS sand and rock, and 4 jars of galaxy pods. I have had ZERO issues with this tank as far as uglies go.
I like the comparison with land animals. A cool guide would be what common aquarium animals fall into the categories and will thrive in a tank together. Again, THANK YOU. My tank and I appreciate what you do.

Poor tank design from a company who went with form over function. Even G2 tanks are starting to pop up with seam issues already. This is far more widespread than anyone is willing to admit

I don't hate RS but it's been to common of a thing and I think it deserves a BRS Investigate perhaps? Is it bad silicone or the panel's not being clean or what! It be interesting for sure. Ratchet strapping a tank to hold it together is something nobody in this hobby needs and is unfortunately still happening. Like you say nothing good happens fast in a reef tank. 5 year old is still not good.
interesting, my first tank was dry rock and sand and oh boy was it ugly and it was a lot of work to get the hair algae to a manageable level. soon as I went bare bottom and got heaps of tangs and adding some live rock my tank looks so much better with barely any if any hair algae(Higher nutrients then the first). But live rock has also created other issues. its a catch 22 and it be awesome if we could get to the point of knowing/finding the balance and then being able to replicate that. I honestly thought it was the bare bottom tank saving me and making a huge difference including never seeing cyano compared to my first tank with sand but now I wander if it was the adding of some small bits of live rock?

I wonder how much of, like, my skincare’s science is just one corporate liaison or designer away from becoming available for a home reef issue .
What were your reasons to switch over to a gravel base? I’ve been struggling with a bare bottom for 2 years and I’m almost ready to throw in the towel. 35 year reefer.
Reason then was a partially a solution problems but the reason I’m a sand guy now is because it’s part of the visual appeal I like. It’s a display tank after all :)

Feedback received. There is a method to the madness, and it will all make more sense as a complete work. Consider a a great cookbook or collection of woodworking plans. I don't read every last recipe in order, but together they are a compendium of knowledge. We have started with 7 distinct recipes for 7 different styles of tanks. Everything is all in one episode, included information distinct to that tank style and all in one place. The 360 is here because it is part of the foundational drivers of knowledge that helped me design those recipes. What comes next is probably more of what experienced reefers like yourself are looking for.

I’m curious about this TBS live sand being used in this series…does it eventually develop the classic brown film like everything else out there or is it so well established/diverse that it looks the same from day 1…I can’t stand the dirty sand look
