Great video! Thank you for creating and posting this very informative video. I suggest taking into account the amount of money you would have spent if you had to purchase those rabbits that went into the freezer. At my location boneless cubed rabbit meat is going for around $10.39 per pound. We can assume a whole rabbit (bone in and not cut into pieces) would be less. My rabbits are around 3 lbs whole after dispatch ( skinned, gutted, no head, no feet). If we guess at a price say around $20 for a dispatched rabbit that means a litter of 8 would have a value of $160 if they were in your freezer or sitting on the canning shelves. My guess is you grossed around $1200 total when taking into account the meat used for your homestead which I think is a really great outcome. For those wanting to bypass the FDA and possibly state regulations on selling rabbits for human consumption simply label your sales as for pet consumption. Many people will purchase rabbits for their pets to consume and what happens to the rabbit carcass after it leaves your property is not your problem.
When I was a kid living in Minnesota my dad raised over a hundred rabbits per I was a kid I didn't like it because I had to feed all those damn as I get older I wish I had rabbits on my own and I've been thinking about getting back into it cuz I know a lot about rabbits from being with my dad and feeding those rabbits and watch my dad do these things but now my parents are both gone and I'm thinking about getting into it I just bought my house about 5 years ago I just need to find out where the markets are
I enjoyed the whole video. Thankyou for taking the time to make it for us. I just had my first litter. They are dutch rabbits. I really wanted meat rabbits. I didn't know she was pregnant when I bought her. I got some straw for her nest box and she grabbed a mouthful and hopped into the nest box with it. Oh dear!! Lol. Lucky for me, it was early November when she had her babies. She is a good mother and the babies are doing well.
I enjoyed your video I had rabbits when I was a teenager and sold all kits to a New York restaurant . My does had litters of 10-12 . Now that I’m in my 40s and I’m finally off grid I’m getting back into rabbits thanks again God bless
Actually rabbit is one of the most profitable animal their is if you do nose to tail butchering which means nothing goes to waste. This sounds like commons sense but put into practice or knowing the out let and find new ways to make money with them but the streams of income form is well over 5 I will list the ones I have done in the past Rabbit skull Fur Pelt Fur tail Fur face Manure Ears are rawhide dog chew toy Feet if white they go for more they can be dyed different colors Meat is feed for self So you can most definitely make money by raising meat rabbits and get the meat for free and get paid to eat them which is pretty awesome ps all of this stuff can be done by mail and in bulk with the right outlets like fly making people and skulls unlimited just some ideas but a rabbit is worth a lot of money if broken down right
@@Jammytigerfarms it depends on what fur but face and tail go to fly makers and the pelt to a fur trader and anther one is squirrel tail they pay about 1 way back then no telling todays rate would be
I really enjoyed your video analysis from the beginning to the end, what will be your advise if I want to start rabbit business in Virginia Richmond city?
Very interesting information on rabbit breeding for profit. We had pet rabbits years ago when our children were young. We would sell them at times but the greatest benefit was the droppings for our garden that needed significant soil improvement. With times getting difficult I might need to research getting some again. I know my granddaughter would love it. Blessings!
Oh man, i wish i COULD get 40 per rabbit. The only way to get that here is if they are pedigreed sold for breeding stock. I do good to sell all mine at 15 a head. We still make money but obviously, at that price, we have to sell a LOT more rabbits to make money
You can make up to *3000* each litter if your mamas a Champions in a rbbit show from champion bloodline Each baby can be up to $500 And depending on your breeds litter size you can make 2000 to 5000 each litter While larger ones can be bred 10-8 times a While larger ones can be bred 10-8 times a year❤ Pedigree rabbits also go for more you can get at least $50 to $20 more. Make sure to ask your greeter if Your rabbit is pedigree comes from a champion bloodline
@@TGGGOLRYOFGOD sorry I'm not really the best person to give that kind of advice, I don't really know that much about business❤️✝️🐰👍 I was mostly just putting the fact out there, so more people are aware
I was going to start doing Rabbits this year. I got one as a pet that was gonna be my breeding buck but I turned out I just didn't have the funds this year. Living in Canada and working 12 hours shifts I decided I was going to need chew proof heated waterers for them since -30c Winters. Couldn't afford it this year but that just means I'll have all Spring and Summer to find the perfect breeding females. 😅
I just fill their bowls with snow or chipped ice, all our animals just gobble it right up! We don't have much for electricity where we are, so keeping water liquid in freezing temperatures is nearly impossible.
Good info but I wish you included your costs for feed and hay and then note what is left. Not just the cost for the pair but to raise the kits to the age they go. I think you should up your marketing strategy to sell them as breeding stock and get a better return . At least $60 - $65 per rabbit. Profitable should mean some profit and it takes at least 7 years to realize the initial investment in infrastructure, stock and supplies after expenses. That income would barely cover my feed cost and I don't buy hay so for the labour involved that barely covers costs. I raise angoras and sell them for a lot more. Of course I have more stock not just one pair but not as many litters per year . Mostly one litter per year sometimes two , but 3 litters in two years is a good number for each . I have one or 2 breeding pairs of each of the four types and a few replacements. They have about the same number of kits sometimes more as Satins can have up to 14 kits and sometimes less as English or German average about 4 kits. French are more stable with about 6 - 8 per litter. However if they don't sell you are stuck for cage space and that makes it difficult . But I look at it this way - they pay their way in kits and the fiber is their gift to me for their care. And the fiber I spin into yarn and turn into product. I would not make enough just selling the raw fiber to be worthwhile. So you cannot really make a living on it as one person doing all the work as it is labour intensive , unless you have a family and can utilize the other remuneration sources like the Black Gold . But it can and does provide a good supplement for discretionary costs and the inflation and other high costs these days. I don't use them for meat but they can be a dual source with meat as well. I sell them as breeding stock or fiber pets for spinners. People do like the English for pets but they often end up in rescues so I discourage it by chargiing more. That way they are more inclined to keep them over the longer term and will pay it if they really want them . But I also offer free spinning lessons and loan of wheel . Thanks for sharing your income on them . I know it helps people a lot to know the reality .
The feed cost on a rabbit is very high. I feed mine with stuff I grow myself during the summer and store feed over the winter. I use the angora fur and manure as an offset to the feed costs.
When do the kits stop sleeping under the fur the mom pulled? We only had 1 survivor and hes 13 days old now. He's so big the fur barely covers him anymore lol. I cut up an old soft sweater to give him a blanket but I'm worried he won't be able to breath under it. He climbed out his nest last night and couldn't get back in. This is our first kit so I could use some advice ❤
That’s not all profit, you got to deduct feed hay cages dishes nest boxes every single thing you spend, also not every kit from evey litter should be sold some will eventually be culls.

$480 off of one mama rabbit everyone. Saved y'all 10 mins.

Yes great plan! We got ceramic dishes from the dollar store for water which was a great deal you just have to refill in the AM and PM

Once they start growing fur they don't need the hair. And they will start to leave the nesting box too soon.
I’ve had rabbits for years and my does largest litter was 11😵
Wow!
I think a more suitable question is how many rabbits or how big should a rabbit farm be to make a living?
Good question and something I can share in a future video!
In the Midwest they sell at $2 a lb
Can you tell me where you’re located? Would be interested in buying a breading pair sometime if close enough. I’m in central Missouri.
Sorry we don’t sell them currently by try looking at Facebook groups in your area
How did you sell on facebook marketplace without having your ads removed from going against their silly community standards?
We didn’t put Ads!
How then did you made sales?
@@splitarrowfarm I appreciate your video, but I don't get how you use FB matketplace either.
There are also private groups on FB specifically for rabbit breeders/looking to purchase.
Great video. I enjoy raising rabbits.
Thank you
Interesting video but will you do the same video but with quail?
Great question, we didn’t sell quail but we did sell eggs sharing our egg sales for the years next week!

I have does that have 10 to 14 at a time if my does don't have at less 8 I get rid of them
What amazing does!

Thanks for the info. I have lots of questions for you.

So many ways to make money. You don t need to sell lives. They are such great pets.
They can be sold as pets yes!
😂
FB and Craigslist wont let me list any animals!!!!!
Oh yeah you do have to work to follow guidelines and list accordingly
My only interest is protein.
Sounds like you can easily get that with rabbits then

Good guess
