9:38 - I love this little nod to the fact that Markiplier's done Let's Play videos for "OFF" when The Batter walks past him and Kiran.
Once again you are raising the bar for what can be done in a Lawl. Unless I am mistaken, this is the first fully animated character outside of some stickmen type fighters to ever be in a Lawl, and It's super impressive and fluid. Not to mention in general how you gave visuals to these attacks that lacked animations in his home game, you did a pretty good job giving it that extra needed flair to fully translate the character for a fighting game.
The Lore, as always, is fantastic and leaves me wanting more. This new Viola Batter alliance is a compelling turn of events and it really feels like the story of your Lawl is in a bit of a "Rising Action" period. And with Spamton sneaking into the mansion and Ellen's ire being evoked, it seems all the different factions of antagonists are converging and I wouldn't be surprised if some major shake up is in the near future, like a more major siege of the Mansion. Don't think I didn't notice the guy in the mirror by the way, who seems to be conversing with the Cat. (The Creator I believe he's called? At least he looks like Jesse Ridgway to me. Add the teased involvement of Doc Scratch from Beatdownbound and I'm inclined to think all three of these devilish figures are in cahoots)
Looking forward to the results of the second empty slot! It sounds like we are in store for quite the amount of reveals.
yea it’s the devil:creator in cahoots with the black cat. i am sure doc scratch is in cahoots with at least one of them and im going as far to say that he is one of the pre bosses in classic mode. but here is where i think things will go.
i’m betting that caliborn is a special/planned fighter in the empty slot and if you read homestuck he is basically young lord english, and if you look closely in the intro you can see his silhouette on top of the mountain where you can also see the silhouettes of the diamonds from steven universe idea that since doc scratch is like a host for lord english as seen in the second intermission that they all have a deal of some sorts that would summon him
but that’s just a theory A LAWL THEORY
If I remember correctly Vinesauce (Or however you spell it) Joel from Lawl Nova is fully animated.
@@jade-reaper I was inclined to think those were more story mode bosses, but it's not off the table that caliborn is both a fighter and a story mode boss. Especially since Caliborn and Lord English, while the same person, have different abilities and such. It could also be the case that Caliborn is the Pre-Boss and Scratch is the story mode boss, since all pre-bosses are also playable characters as far as I know.
@@SirIsaacFortesque Yeah you're right, that slipped my mind. Still incredibly impressive on Shad's part tho
yea with the exception of the creator, the classic mode bosses don’t affect the lore story mode so le and the diamonds in this case are just story mode bosses. i think the only other exception for the future i think would be ruby’s boss in classic mode. but we’ll see soon
Simply fantastic! As a diehard fan of OFF it brings me a ton of joy to see him realised in such a wonderful fashion. The way you interpreted these nebulous and abstract attacks into something visual and understandable, while keeping the attributes from the original game is really something else, and was an excellent showing to let you flex your creative muscles.
The same goes for Enoch who was something else. It's great to get another look at the wonderful boss line up, and this was a way to do it! All of his attacks make a ton of sense, and fit well for a massive boss who can control the stage. Can't wait to see more of his ilk after how fantastic this showing was.
It's wild to think it's been 100 episodes, but this really does stand out. Not many series can claim to always be improving and never resting on their laurels, but this is one. Every new fighter pushes things further with the creativity of their moveset, and how they all fit together, and I'm glad I've gotten the chance to be around and watch the growth and improvement continuously.
Have a wonderful day, keep up the amazing work, and here's to 100 more!
OFF is one of those games that I still need to play and this moveset only made me want to play the game even more. I feel the most crazy part about this moveset which elevates it as one of Beatdown's best is how little of a pool you had given the original game was a pretty traditional JRPG. You didn't just draw all of the Batter's sprites which is already a big feat, but the moves were also pretty interesting interpretations of the attacks that the Batter had in the game! I like the gimmick of him having the three Add-Ons all with 3 different Neutral Specials and Down Specials, with Alpha definitely being the one I'd use the most (I just love the chaotic element of being able to give opponents any status effect possible), and I do like how The Batter's Down B is a pretty risky move that requires you NOT to have any of the Add-Ons to use. It sounds like a very crazy move to pull out for sure! I also like the taunt where he just eats some meat lol
That Boss was also fantastic! It takes what I said about the moves being interpretations of the descriptions in the original RPG to a brand new level, and bosses in Lawl is just something that's not seen too often. Definitely a worthy video to celebrate the 100 vids milestone!
Technically "OFF" is a French RPG. But I agree with everything else you said.
Wow the animations for the Batter were so clean- and I love how you gave The Batter a fitting final Smash without it being the big spoiler thing in that one ending. He wound up being more complicated than I expected with the Add Ons so Ill have to rewatch this again-!
Also, oooo, new Final Smash for Markiplier AND Kiran? Kiran has beem getting lots of big beam attacks in Heroes lately so I wouldn't be surprised if that got changed. Also Naesala appearing and teasing The Batter was so cool, I love seeing unique FE Hero dialogue with the fighters
Also Blockhead interacting with the Batter was so great, I could totally see Batter being Blockheads midrival pfft
So glad I played the majority of OFF before this set came out, because it made me appreciate everything about this video so much more!
The base moveset was fantastic, especially with the Add-Ons enabling a Dynamic playstyle for The Batter. But what I really loved the most were all the minor details such as the gauge meter from the RPG battles, the exclusive sound effects, the sketchy smear frames, the third victory screen background being purified, and the bat dealing damage in his Side Special. This set nailed the balancing of being both basic and advanced, fitting since OFF isn't the most glaring game visually (aside from battle sprites lol) but has a deep story and banger OST.
The boss showcase was a pleasant surprise, but what really got me hooked was the lore and HOOOOOOOOOO BOY. Love how The Batter is the most introverted character in the roster, and the alliance with Viola made me legit excited. Also really curious about what schemes that little bastard Spamton and the man in the mirrors are up to. Congrats on getting 100 videos out, huge milestone right there!
It's hard to believe that the ES1 set is almost done, and with the Batter out, the wait was well worth it!
I haven't played OFF yet, but this got me interested into playing the game, especially with the way its mechanics are implemented in the moveset such as using add-ons (Alpha, Omega, and Epsilon) to his advantage in several of the moves. I like how the Neutral B can be used to either buff or health the Batter, or alternatively effect opponents nearby, so that way the move can be used based on what situation the Batter is in. Another thing I really like is the spritework done on the Batter himself, the art style from the game's artwork is perfectly replicated here and I appreciate how all of his animations are custom made, they all look amazing in action! The special smash taunt he has where he analyzes the opponent is a nice touch, and same goes with the special stamina KO he has. In terms of the lore, it looks like the Batter and Viola are building up to something special with an alliance...
And now for the special part: that boss showcase of Enoch was a spectacular way to celebrate 100 videos on this channel! All of his animations were nice to see in action, and much like the Batter, all his spritework showcased looks amazing!
I look forward to not only seeing the ES1 era capped off with Harry Freakin' Potter, but also what could be in store next for Beatdown in the future!
could never imagine a lawl take having THE FUCKING BATTER in it
his sprites are so well done and expressive, i love how their all hand-drawn
despite there being movesets for the batter already through things like rivals of aether, i really like this take and how his add-ons are more realized with their own unique attacks.
We almost got all of the ES1 winners done, anyways, the moveset for The Batter was actually really amazing, I like how the add-ons work, and everything, especially the final smash, is SO GALACTIC! And I even enjoyed the boss battle showcase, great job on this moveset, Shad, and I am hyped for Harry Freakin’ Potter.
5 AM Batter 🕺
Only one guy left...
Very Potter Harry.
BATTER UP! ⚾
I was already familiar with The Batter before he joined Beatdown after I watched Nitro Rad's review of OFF in 2017, so I was intrigued when I saw him in the Direct. Now that he's finally here, this moveset was definitely a Home Run! The Final Smash was very creative, and I liked the Outro with Batter being forced by Asgore to go to the mansion, and also the lore with him and Viola. I'm also curious where The Creator fits in all of this. IDK if he's working with Viola and Batter or if he's secretly working with Dark, Chara and Ellen. I feel like he might use his powers to send them out of the Upside Down and into the physical world.
I played OFF for the first time earlier this year and loved it, so to finally see Batter's moveset come out and actually recognize what everything is, it's a real treat. And man, it feels like you did him and the whole game so much justice here; from adapting his gameplay and abstract style into a compelling and comprehensive kit, to his spot-on characterization and the intrigue surrounding his role in the story. Plus, the custom assets and animations are all so well-done! If you had told me Mortis Ghost himself had drawn them, I'd believe you.
On top of that, the Boss Showcases are a great new addition to the rotation, and Enoch is a fun one to start on! He feels just as large and in charge as you'd expect from someone of his stature. Can't wait to see how the rest of the bosses function down the line, and I'm especially curious about how Surtr in particular will be carried over.
Congrats on reaching 100 vids, it's certainly one hell of a milestone! Can't wait to see what the future holds for the next 100!
Well, there is so much good to unpack here!
For starters, I really enjoy The Batters role in the lore, and how fitting his character is. (And Markipliers appearances due to him playing the game, and his memories of that being faint due to the whole memory situation Vriska discussed. Same thing with Peebs and Mavilda, but I thought it was a gag, so this might just confirm it’s a big deal… great stuff as always!) I’m more than interested in what he and Violas different goals will result in later down the line. (And the interactions are really cool! Poor Blackhead though…)
Anyways, moving onto the actual set, it’s fantastic! I’ve only seen a part of Marks playthrough and Nitro Rads review of OFF, but this still went beyond my expeditions on how you’d represent the Batter. The Batters hard hitting moves and various moves with the Add-one all give him a great diverse arsenal, and the various buffs they can inflict and attacks they can preform really make the Batter fit his well rounded playstyle.
I like how his Side and Up Specials have several interesting properties to differentiate them from a generic running or jumping Side and Up Special, and keep them unique. Down Special is a great finisher and reflector incase a Zoner challenges the move, and the secondary specials were just as good as the others, both in utility and design. (Oh, and Strong Bad checking his Compy as an idle animation is so genius!)
The Final Smash is a very interesting stage transforming FS that has a lot of synergy between comboing enemies into the stage hazards with the Batters increased stats, which I enjoyed!
The Ko’s, Taunts, Victories, and even Special KO were fantastic, and those Batter sprites and his bosses sprites (and showcase) were all really great and impressive. For your 100th vid, you really went above and beyond, and I appreciate that. I’m super excited for Harry, or who or whatever comes next if he doesn’t, and EVEN MORE excited for the Empty Slot 2 results! I’m also interested in what Spamton is up to… keep up the great work!
(But I wonder how the Batter can remember his previous guides if every fighters memories are altered? Hm...)
this goes hard as hell, really cool design and animations
this exceeded my expectations dude.
i’ve never heard of OFF but after playing through the game it was a blast.
The moveset was pretty good and now i can see why in the stat sheet he is labeled as a dynamic play style with his add ons helping him out. and what a final smash by doing purification of the entire stage like once you complete a zone in off is amazing
Something i was really hoping to see is the lore in this, as the batter is very neutral and a hermit to the rest of the inhabitants of the beatdown mansion who would rather beat the shit out of dummies than watch strong bad’s movie . i also like how the devil is in cahoots with the black cat and viola and seems a devil made of a deal with the devil.
the boss for The Batter is really good as i would’ve expected flowey as his boss but NOPE here comes enoch. If there were a batter boss i most likely would’ve expected enoch since the other two bosses wouldn’t fit the bill but yea. this is absolutely astonishing good work.
The Batter is easily one of my mains for this game alongside Gary, Edd, The Crystal Gems, Vriska, Kiran, Blockhead and Markiplier.
even if i don't know much of anything from the source material. this move set is pretty cool. from letting him buff heal and exit freefall at will. to straight up giving him a falcon punch. this moveset is one of my personal favorites in beatdown. the lore is getting really interesting too. hope to see more.
YESSSSSSSSSSSSS THE BATTER IS HERE BABY!!!!!
nice Moveset!!!!
6 empty slot moveset videos down, 1 more to go.
I'm not at all familiar with OFF, so I don't have much context for what The Batter is like, but the lore has taken an interesting turn with The Batter's interactions with Viola.
Also, I'm officially more than prepared for Harry's moveset since I watched The Very Potter trilogy(As well as Twisted and TGWDLM), so I'm looking forward to his upcoming moveset.
I haven’t seen this franchise in quite some time but the moveset is good
As someone who hasn't played nor has any plans to play Off, this was pretty good, I'd definitely say the highlight here is the animation of the Batter, don't get me wrong the moveset is great, but the way he animates and how well the sprites keep the sketch book art style from the game intact and being surprisingly consistent and smooth is definitely worthy of praise, the boss showcase was awesome too, shame we won't get any more classic modes but then if you made more than one we'd never get anything else from this channel so it's really not a big deal, I'm definitely excited for empty slot one to finally be done, and of course, a big congratulations to ya for 100 videos man.
You should make batter a twist villain for the lore of lawl beatdown since he pretty much is kind off a villain in his home game
*(notices the Diggy Diggy Hole stage)*
I LOVE YA MAN
I've been seeing a lot of OFF lately and seeing him in lawl is a very nice surprise
PERFECT START TO THE DAY, LETS GET SPECTRAL ⚾️⚾️⚾️⚾️⚾️🧢🧢🧢🧢
FINALLY! HE'S HERE!
Only Problem Is, Now I Don't Know How I'm Going To Make My Moveset For Him Different.
I had no idea that these were made in VideoPad
Was I the only one to notice that both markiplier and Kiran were filling in new final smash forms ?
You're right! Damn, I'm really excited for the Update Patch now!
I could see why Mark needs a new Final Smash, but Kiran? I think she’s good with what she already has.
Can you do a moveset for orion from power rangers super megaforce please
9:42 - Came back to comment again to ask, why is there a picture of Lenny from "The Simpsons" in this scene?
Ok that was awesome i hope next that harry potter guy or ruby rose
It's gonna be Harry, it looks like.
Edit: Well never mind then!
These are very good movesets! been benging them recently. have you ever thought of making a discord server so people can discuss stuff like lore or maybe fan made charecter move sets?
5:16 So this is the homerun bat from Smash Bros?
BATTER⚾⚾⚾
What a way to celebrate 100 videos! And to think we have only 1 character left from the first empty slot.
While I only know so much about OFF, I can definitely say you nailed his play style down. It was fun seeing your interpretations of his moves, and giving the Add-Ons different purposes to use in battle was a nice touch. Of course, then there's the animation. The fact that is was all custom made by you is genuinely impressive.
As usual, the lore is continuing to heat up. Batter's interactions with the cast, especially since he's the most serious out of them were all fun (poor Blockhead though). And I'm interested in his alliance with Viola, and The Creator's own agenda in the story.
As for the new segment to celebrate the occasion, I heartily approve of Boss Fights, given how there so few in the Law community. Epoch made a good first impression, being a large and in charge boss that makes the player think they're in control of the stage. And much like Batter, his animation were all very good as well.
Overall, Beatdown continues to amaze me with how much the quality improves. Looking forward to seeing Harry Freaking Potter, and whatever else you have planned.
Ps: what ever happened to Empty Slot 2?
My best guess would be he unlisted it to make it easier the tally up votes (so nobody comments on it dispite it being closed, which people HAVE done before)
Ah, fair enough.
So who's next?
After Čeda Čedović from "Poor 4" (who's surprise moveset video was posted two months ago), Harry Freakin' Potter is very likely next on the pipeline (he's the last Empty Slot 1 character who's moveset has yet to be released).
I was way off (not a pun). We got Spinel's moveset at the beginning of last month, and Ruby Rose was hinted to be next at the end of Spinel's outro (though Ruby being next might NOT be a guarantee. I will admit that I have been wrong before).
Bottom line is that as of me typing this reply. Ruby Rose, Harry Freakin' Potter, Blockhead, DIO and Psycho Kid are currently the only confirmed characters who don't have videos out yet, and we're all going to have to wait and see what ShadBad has planned for them in the future. (Not just their movesets, but their involvement in the "Smash Bros. Lawl Beatdown" lore as well.)
Bat
Man
This is a test comment.
Is he from the earthbound rip off
Eh, It's More Like An Inspired Game.
