Yup… Or Alberta, northern Ontario, or northern ANYWHERE ELSE in 🇨🇦 Most of Canada is nothing like southern BC.
Also: >70% of our national population live in cities closer to the USA than anywhere else.
Studded tires on both my MTB/EMTB. Riding in anything above -20C is pretty chill.

@@IdrisFashan over here in Finland I run studded tires only when there's mostly ice (that's normally at the end of winter when it's still cold but the sun melts the surface during the day). We get lots of snow but fatbikes are useless. We have so much trail use that most trails get hard packed within 24 hours of every snowfall.
-25C is where my limit is. Colder than that and it gets hard to keep hands warm in any gloves that are in any form fit for riding. I run hand guards during winter just to keep the breeze away from my hands and it helps a lot.

@@khendricksson we call them pogies over here in western 🇨🇦 😊
I wish I could share photos here - and see others! My winter rider looks like a post-apocalyptic snow bike with fabric horns. 😆
I tried biking in -27, and I could stay warm, but my shocks froze stiff... went from full suss to rigid bike in about 20 minutes.

Thats fall riding... Dont see snow and ice. Dont see snot dripping like crazy. Dont see you blowing into your mitts to warm them up. Until you do, it's not winter.

Ok in fairness that is riding in the winter in bc…. Try riding in the winter in Alberta or Saskatchewan. It’s a little different of an experience . Still doable but different.

It's not even winter in BC. The lower mainland of BC is simular to Toronto or for the greenbacks in the group, New York City. "Oh you mean there's somewhere else than here? Sucks to be there!"

  • @I_THE_ME

What fo you mean by this "winter riding"? All I'm seeing is greenery and nothing that would stop a person from riding those paths a year around. I was expecting you to talk about riding in cold weather and possibly changing the suspension oil since that's one of the bigger challenges of winter riding when the temps drop below -10°C.

I encourage a video of a rooty tech section on the North Shore like Pangor or Head out to Suma Mtn and ride Emma Peal. I have learned to stay away from wet roots and wet TTF (skinnies, logs, etc) from too many near death experiences.
Winter riding in the PNW is fun in the winter and you better love getting muddy.
Well-groomed trails are much better to ride instead of dusty pebble summer trails.
Now for the rest of the country, winter riding us dependent on temperatures, tire designs and trail conditions (not sheer ice).
We're Canadian...get out and Ride, just dress for the weather and bring a headlight or 2.

I rode studded tires bikes to work on the night shift when they don't plow around here to work for the last twenty years. The last five or so I used a fat bike.
I actually had a better ride of no one had driven. If they drove a lot of times the snow would be icy under the fresh snow and I'd be slipping and sliding everywhere
I had about a four mile ride each way.

Geometry could be more up to date
Headline-making power numbers not all that useable on the trail.
