After all this time , I just noticed that I'm not subbed Thanks for reminding, Dropped a sub and a like! As always, very informative and straightforward review and probably my only go to for a dongle reviews. btw, just noticed that you never reviewed Jcally AP20. Even though it's quite an old dongle, I feel like for the price and features it gives, it beats some of the current under $80 dongles (especially that it also comes with it's battery and 2.5,3.5 and even 4.4 connections) Just ordered one today from a Shopee flash sale
Thanks Andy, appreciate this one! I have an Ru6, and actively looking for a Hiby FC6, and maybe an RU7, think I'll put this on the list, and watch for a deal on it! Personally Just not a fan of Delta Sigma DACS! Thinking about ordering a Topping, the new 1bit D90 III discrete looks quite interesting!
Will iBasso DC-Elite has any interference and unstable current supply to cause drop of audio quality when use if pair with iPhone and Z1R? Is it a waste to get that and pair with MDR-Z1R headphone if I want the best intended sound quality of the contents?
Not that I know of especially of you use the later models iPhone with USB C. For older iPhones I would not use them woth any dongles as the Lightning USB power is very restricted. DC Elite is one of thr many and tons of amazing dongles you can choose from now. I personally prefer DC07Pro and ONIX Alpha XI over DC-Elite
Any plans of reviewing the Muse M5 Ultra? Also how does pairing a tube amp like the Cayin N3 ultra with the Mega5est work? Cause the Mega5est already has a lush midrange. Will adding tubes make it bloated or will it sound even better.
M5 Ultra is work in progress and will be out very soon. Mega5EST will sound amazing with N3 Pro and will never be bloated. It will be naturally warm and organic
@donglemadness thanks. Have you tried it or saying it out of intuition? Cause you say it will naturally warm and organic. But i guess the Mega5est is natural, warm, and organic in the first place without any tubes.
Hmm what kind of wizardry are they doing at the amplification stage to drive so powerful? Indeed a dongle not for everyone, cons like interference and noise floor with sensitive IEMs are not good for me. Cheers thanks for review Andy
This is a very interesting dongle because I also have the Letshuoer S12 2024, Hidizs MP145 and the Artti T10... My question is does it get hot like the FIIO KA17 for example?🤔
Normally if not all, EST drivers are used in hybrids with crossovers and they tend to be SUPER low impedance with high sensitivity, I have yet to see any EST driver based IEMs having higher impedance higher than 32 Ohm. So if they are under 32 Ohm, usually even under 24 Ohm and as low as 8 Ohm, they will suffer volume too loud issue as well with this R1
Can you, please, make a video describing the differences between delta-sigma, R2R and 1-bit? I am struggling to understand what the fuss is all about. As far as I understand, R2R messes with frequency, but is on point on time, delta-sigma is vice versa: on point on frequency, but messes with time. Can you do that? Thank you for quality, down-to-Earth content, Andy.
Lol thanks. To do that first I will need to really understand them. The truth is I am as clueless as you are and I intend to learn and then perhaps share my take on it
Hi Andy. Thanks for the great review. The R1 is an intriguing piece of gear. Could it be paired up and used as a DAC with an xduoo tube amp like an MT-602 or MH-02? Thanks as usual for any insights you could provide.
Yes you could, but I would not get R1 for Aux role to feed line in especially for tube amps. R1 is built to sound amazing on its own and connecting it to MT-602 especially will probably serve to degrade what was an already super powerful and wide open sound
Hi Andy, I want to know your feedback/suggestions about EW 300 that seems interesting to get one. im a neutral linear kinda guy. a hint of bumps on lower or higher frequency okay for me. and organic and correct timbre is a bonus... should this EW300 good for me. I'm a mixing engineer. ( LSR 305mk2 speakers, Sundara, Shure SRH 1840 openback , ATH M70x , Dunu Titan S *og* , HZ Heart Mirror * neutral bright* . Tin T2 Plus * u shaped * if its not too warm ot too unshaped should be fine for me. what do you think?
If organic you looking for then I will vouch more for Dunu Titan S2, which I personally use a lot more than other IEMs for under $100 category. EW300 is great in its own right but you asking for something more organic and I think S2 does it a bit better while keeping things neutral enough
Heartfield R1 seems a great budget R2R offering for hard to drive stuff ... how much volume is needed to drive your hifi man sundara openback headphone ?
Should move on from Onix to Heartfield R1 or stay in my seat? Also Andy as thinking of buying Arya Stealth do you think Onix will be fine or need upgrade to something with more power portable/desk option? Thanks for all!
ONIX Alpha is more than capable for Arya Stealth for as long as you use 4.4mm side and high gain. Between R1 and Alpha XI, I like both. Alpha XI on the other hand offers more versatility for highly sensitive stuffs and offers more options like filters etc, R1 as noted here, are just so very simple and raw
sorry andy are sure that the ranking is accurate? on other videos you said the dc elite is more hifi sounding but in the graph is really close to analog, maybe it's just biased or small changes due to output impendance, phase or load dependency which are real measures responsibile for the analog sounding. Seems really casual and maybe an abx testing will make scientific proves
I don't do measurements. If you are referring to the Timbre table, the latest one whixh you see here is the most updated version which may be revised especially after further comparisons with more devices
1st sentence and i am out. had the ru6, i use it with phone..and the inteference is just disurbing when listening to music. sold ru6 due to the interference.
Better is not the word. It's different. R1 offers something a bit airy and warmer overtones. Alpha XI offers something denser with body of sound and crisper resolution
Good to see you Andy! I just purchased a Denafrips R2R for my home stereo. Thanks for the excellent review.
Nice, enjoy!
Oh wow, it took a tumble huh... Fantastic review, Andy! I am going to put this on my wishlist! I don't own anything R2R but I really want to try it!
Glad you liked it! You should definitely give R2R a try!
From Denmark, love your content.
🙏
I thought Park Jun-Hyung was doing dongle reviews, lol. Great review as always.
I have that same Bathory shirt. Amazing!!

PS: AP20 I have it with me but has not been able to find time to do video on it
saw the monster fiio r9, looking forward andy to review it
Been there for over 3 months already, way overdue for my review lol

It is a great one to add to the list!
Screen cracked, hati bnyk sakit boss.. Review yg terbaikkkkk Awesome review as usual 👍
Haha tqtq
Andy, you should try to get Fiio MagClip. Quite handy so your dongle wouldnt be tangling when you are walking or doing activities
Thanks, I will check it out

Bought one thanks to Andy, but encountered the high volume crackle quite fast, as I was using it with Aeon 2 😅... Too bad cos it sounds really smooth
Aeon 2 I meant the Dan Clark planars wahaha
Hopefully they'll release a version with more granular volume control, like 15/20 steps
terbaikk😂 harap boleh review aful performer 5+2@7
Very soon 😜

I should have mentioned it does not heat up like most other dongles
Great review. Have you tried any est IEMs, do they also suffer the volume problem>

@@AndyAudioVault thanks for sharing
Insane driving power, I hardly even need to use more than volume 2 😅
🤣

I've used all of my dongles, and desktop dacs with the MT-602, my7 Darkvoice, as well as a few other head amps, works great!

@donglemadness Alrighty , thanks Andy
Hi Andy, do you by any chance have the dunu kima 2? It's very similar tuning to tanchjim origin and wondering which one to get on sale haha
Yes I have one here which I am testing and hopefully would be able to do review soon
Heartfield R1 seems a great budget R2R offering for hard to drive stuff ... how much volume is needed to drive your hifi man sundara openback headphone ?
Same like Sennheiser HD600, 3 out of 9 volume, or slightly lower than 3

@AndyAudioVault thank you!
suited for dynamic iem softears turii ti?
mpedance: 25 ohms@1KHz (±15%)
Sensitivity: 118dB/VRMS@1KHz
Not suitable, as mentioned in this video, IEMs under 32 Ohm and over 110 dB sensitivity may not be suited with the raw power of R1
1st sentence and i am out. had the ru6, i use it with phone..and the inteference is just disurbing when listening to music. sold ru6 due to the interference.
Is there any minimise the noise interference ?
Use better shielded cables like from ddHiFi
@@AndyAudioVault IEM cable or the USB cable?
Is this better than the Onix Alpha XL1 for Letshuoer S12 2024?
Better is not the word. It's different. R1 offers something a bit airy and warmer overtones. Alpha XI offers something denser with body of sound and crisper resolution
Can you review the philips shp9600? :)
I would like to once I have one
How is this compare to the ibasso dc elite? Isit better or worse?
Different. R1 is a lot more powerful than DC Elite, more air and a bit richer in sound notes. DC Elite however offers a hair more overall resolution
Shanling UA6 or ibasso DCO7PRO both haves 4 CS43131 ?
I don't have UA6 to compare yet
