Last Soviet Union hammer and sickle flag is taken down in 1991 - Daily Mail

Shop shelves were often bare, long lines for food were a regular sight and some children just didn't have that youthful glint in their eyes. In the final years of the Soviet Union, the unrest grew to such an extent that the USSR finally collapsed on Boxing Day 1991, shortly after many of these pictures were taken.
