    I've been using Savotta packs for years now, had one in the army, bought a Jääkäri L for shorter trips and the legendary model 906 for plus two-week hikes. Rugged as all hell, no bullshit and no compromises.
    Word of advice for those thinking about buying AND upgrading the Jääkäri L - you can overpack it, but you'll overload it. If you add 10+ liters worth of pouches and it starts to weigh 12+ kilos, just consider buying the XL (or the 906). I used the L on a two-week trip to Lapland in autumn, overpacked and full of pouches. Not too comfy, the suspenders aren't designed for that. Not excruciatingly bad though. Pack it right and test it.
    Might change the 906 to an XL at some point, since I like the Cordura fabric a bit more. State-of-the-art equipment, all of them.

      12 kilos, 26 pounds, cool. When I was backpacking across the United States in my teens, I lugged around 75 pound, (34 kg), packs. Now I am older, damaged disk, necrotic hip, torn meniscus, I just figured I can't backpack. I lost about 40 pounds before my hip replacement, so I could carry a light pack, but my necrosis, I could walk too far, and be 7nable to walk home until I recuperated.

      @@tomcondon6169 If you didn't have someone to teach you, you probably didn't have your pack set up right. Most injury's come from loading it/putting it on wrong or having your straps the incorrect length. Heavy ass packs can mess you up big time. You probably learned but by then the damage was done.

    @Lars: a nice customization for molle-straps is weaving a shock-cord through, for "enhanced" attachement-options ;)
    I did this to my 3day molle-bag for easy&fast concealment in the woods, but also verry practical in the city and for work it, some "civilian" thingys wont fit the molle-standarts ;)

    These 3 to replace 19(?) or so packs. You should have bought these from the beginning then, but so it is sometimes. Ideas come when they want, (as well as wizards in Lord of the Ring movies) and so does favorite gear, sometimes it seems, giving the feeling of "why did I not get this much earlier", I guess, that it is a common experience for many? An interesting part of life?
    Maybe not for everyone, 1000 denier Cordura Nylon, "Molle" and so, adding some extra weight (+ more strength, toughness and sturdiness, of cause) and price to the pack I would estimate? For what you are doing, they seem perfect, I see that. Looking forward to see the review of the XL version also at some point then, :o) the showing of the drone and also nice day, as usual!!!

    Great overview of the packs, thanks! I started with the M and was immediately in love with it. I still am.
    L followed a month later as soon as the 'winter' started as i needed more volume. So far I have only needed to use it three times and with around 15kg it was pretty comfortable...apart from the damned squeaking of the cords and god knows what else. Not an issue when you are trudging through snow or dry leaves, but when all you can hear is the pack squeaking it's enough to drive you crazy and spoil your trip. I tried silicone spray and wrapping the frame in tape but to no avail. Any ideas? That issue is what's stopping me from loving it. It's built like a tank though and i can see it outlasting the TT mk.3 by decades.
    Your review of the S made sure it joined the family soon after. I use it for everything from carrying groceries, tools to work to hiking. With the foam mat 12 bottles of wine are no problem over a kilometer or three!(many times tested)
    If I can't resolve the squeaking issue of L this year, I will replace it with LJK as soon as I can justify it.
    For now overpacked M with pouches reigns supreme

    • @SurvivalRussia
      @SurvivalRussia  4 года назад +1

      I will have to check if my L is also squeaking like yours, because I don't remember it doing so. The LJK is very nice!

    • @apsynto
      @apsynto 4 года назад

      Perhaps it was overloaded with 15 kg, but from carrying comfort it really didn't feel to be so. Silicone spray and taping the frame was advice from Savotta after I emailed them so i might not be the only one with this issue. The pack would be truly great if only it kept quiet!
      If the next winters are like the last it will be a long time until I can justify investing in LJK

    Question, (this is off topic), a discussion came up about Ukraine, people buy their homes, but have to pay rent if they grow a garden bigger than a certain size, or have livestock. What is the situation in Russia? Do you own your home? Do you own your land? If not, how does it work?

    • @SurvivalRussia
      @SurvivalRussia  4 года назад +3

      Yes we own our land here. I'm not sure how it works with taxes out here :)

    Great review. I had this really crappy pack that looked good with molle and everything, but just fell apart when used. I'd love an actual functional design that IS properly fabricated with high-grade materials.

      These MOLLE straps are tested to hold 150kg, in one eyelet only.

      @@Sn0w1981 It has to. The main customer of Savotta is not civilians. It is just extra money on the side (also why the stuff ain't cheap. They can afford to ask premium). Their main customer is Finnish Defence Forces, Finnish Border Guard and Finnish Police. So it is just literally mill spec stuff. These aren't the exact models they sell to government, but pretty much "Pack Savotta makes for Finnish government modified to suit wider tastes". Mostly that means lots and lots of molle.
      Where as some of the goverment contract design have sown in pockets and holders, well since they know what gear to expect. The pack was ground up designed to fit known on issue government kit.
      So yeah the gear is pretty direct military issue quality stuff and I mean on level of "this has to survive conscripts and massed reserve army use". Meaning it must be ridiculously overbuilt, since no one is as good at breaking gear as conscript.
      Professional soldier: Well I better take care of my gear so it takes care of me.
      Conscript noname: Yeah.... Just so we are clear, this is governments gear. Not mine. So I don't care if it survives. One fine hobby of Finnish conscript amusement. torture testing issue packs and other load bearing gear for how many 10 kg anti-tank mines you can pack in and on them and still lift it. Yeah.... Just like idiot proofing is hard, so is conscript proofing.

    Lars, as a long term pack rat, and in the interests of recycling and your family's survival, why not offer some of your collection of 19 packs for sale on the merchandise list. I am sure that you will find customers amongst your subscribers, and let's face it, collecting and selling scrap metal to the local scrap yard isn't that different to this suggestion. I appreciate that you don't take money for advertising products, but is selling a Survival Russia T shirt that different to selling a second hand Lar's pack rat pack when survival is the intention..
