3 years ago meta ads were great for spotify music, i'm curious if you noticed that the last few months or years, if you go to the landingpage from the actual ad and hit play it doesn't open in spotify but it opens up a preview page of spotify, it really screws up the ad campaigns, did you noticed?
Thanks for sharing your process. It aligns very much with what I've been doing. As someone who hates putting myself on social media, this was very encouraging. If you ever want to do a chill Celtic/House track I'd love to collab.
as much as I hate to say this, you're probably more likely to grow an actual fanbase on tiktok. people who follow playlists are fans of the playlist. I've had about 300k views on tiktok in the past 60 days and they're genuinely seeking out my music, engaging with my videos, asking about shows
The real vibe is that you can have fewer than 5k followers, but if DJs are playing your music, you'll get bookings worldwide in your niche! :)) Thanks for the nice interview, will check the book!
I have watched some other videos/podcasts with Jend and was really happy to see this pathway to success was possible. Probably going to buy this guide later today lol, as I was going to experiment with ads for the first time this Fall on a few singles . Thanks for the video!
really great talkthrough from Jend on this! Some great detail which got me thinking about my own promo...... Especially being specifically about HOUSE ! Thanks!
Dang - this is wild; I thought I was totally on to something by doing this for my genre lane and this is a big vote of confidence for the work I’ve been putting in. Mine’s called Americana Cheat Sheet - I’m going through a rebranding right now to have some merch available to promote the playlist in physical spaces as well. Running playlist ads is SUCH a good idea. We grow together.
@@kingmoreorless2810 Yes, I did. Tbh I have a background in marketing, which is why I stop myself from saying it's easy, but it really is, you just need to properly set up a FB campaign once and now you have the confidence. And it's much better to do when you have a step-by-step book by Nico (Jend), when you see a successful artist that did it. And also I felt reinvigorated after finishing the book and joining the community.
what are your thoughts about the fact that playlists will get you less-engaged listeners which means less saves, less playlist adds, which means Spotify will see this lack of engagement as a sign that he song isn't very good or is resonating, which will mean less algorithmic play? Is there something I'm missing?
I think the point is more about money. Obviously you don’t want to get on other peoples playlist through things like Submit Hub, but if you have your own playlist with a lot of likes and put your own music there, you’re getting free streams and money. The playlist won’t cost money once you reach 1000 likes and you’ll be giving Spotify algorithmic data. If you look at huge artists, they get added to these kinda of playlists too whether or not they own the playlist so I don’t think it’s the not end of the world that the engagement rate is low. This strategy has actually been one of the most useful I’ve been given recently. I highly recommend Jends book. It explains this stuff much better than I can
Less that what? Without an existing audience you’ll get zero saves, zero playlist adds, zero algorithmic play. How do playlists give you less than zero? There’s definitely something you’re missing.
@@stuartdavid8493 I think that he’s saying that you’ll get less engagement on playlists rather than other promotional strategies. That’s true but it’s more of just a thing that’ll bring extra income in that you can use to promote your releases as well as get you free streams AND be able to contact artists that submit their music to you. User made playlists are just as powerful as editorial playlists yet for some reason we think that editorial playlists are the most important thing in the world
@@oopsySeason I ended up working with other local philly rappers on creating a community playlist and sharing it with each others audience so a little different
"A shy person on camera".... The sad thing is that I can kind of relate, because, personally, I just *hate* being on camera. I wouldn't so much mind doing something live, but that would be a little difficult, in my case. I can especially relate with the "Shorts" thing.
Maybe you could do an animated approach a la Gorillaz. Daft Punk or PPL MVR use costumes. As I am very old, to start a pop/rock career, this is the approach I'm trying. A lot of work, learning animation, design, etc., but Ai helps.
Do you put your budget on the campaign level with Advantage campaign budget+ then do a number of ad sets, see where the money goes and then shut off the ones not getting any attention, or do you allocate the budget on the ad sets let's say 20 dollars each and after a few days shut all the ones not doing well and keeping the winner and leave that 20 dollars on. I'm not sure which way I should budget, ad set level or Advantage campaign budget + ? Thanks in advance
Everything about "becoming a successful" music creator seems to have nothing to do with making music. It doesn't help to complain about it, it is what it is. You just can't make great music and share it, you have to make great music and then do weird hacks or sensational stuff for it to be shared
Same as being a freelancing software developer. It doesn't matter how much experience or skill you have if no one knows about you. Its tiring. I've wasted so much time promoting and growth hacking and only 5% of my efforts brings in the work.
well imagine how this works in the old days. you spend all your time making art but you have no food or anything to trade but your art for food. now you must travel and journey to find people who will trade your art for something valuable. making art as a profession as opposed to a hobby isnt going to be easy but it is worth it if its your passion imo
Do you think that running Ads for your Playlists allows to get the power/reach of an Ad w/o risking the quality of the audience and causing Algo issues? On Spotify...

How do you create a playlist
What’s up with Spotify when you get 2 million monthly listeners and still no love from their editorial playlists?
his track 'In the Dark' is def editorial material such a banger!
Perhaps they only consider songs that are being submitted before their release? 👀

Do you think that running Ads for your Playlists allows to get the power/reach of an Ad w/o risking the quality of the audience and causing Algo issues? On Spotify...
That would all depend on your targeting . That’s what he was saying on tier 1 countries and tier 2. Tier 1 cost more but you’ll get better audience
What’s the most effective minimum amount of money to invest into ads to actually get dissent results
$5 a day
For reference I spend 10€ a day and get around 50-65 followers daily out of it
Great interview, thank you for sharing @jendbeats
Would a playlist that has 10k followers that has 1+k songs and it is the same genre worth it? Or will I mess your algorithm?
How do make a playlist though
From your own Spotify account. User generated playlist.
