  • Today I'm unboxing the Aklot 16 string lyre! I was really lucky to receive this to review. It costs around $90, spans a little over 2 octaves G to A, and has gorgeous sustain from its metal strings. It also comes with a pickup so you can play it through an amp with effects pedals!

You can purchase the lyre on Amazon here: amzn.to/39zfNBp

This is the one I have, I absolutely love it and play it a lot. I take it out in my backpack when I go for walks in the summer, it's really portable.

Thanks for this review! I've been looking at this particular lyre for my first string instrument - I have a collection of fun instruments, but I really need something I can accompany myself on!

This is a fun instrument to learn chording on! You'll have to stick to the C scale and its modes since it's diatonic, but that's not too limiting for accompaniment 😊

Such a cool looking instrument. The pickup is nice. I bet it would sound really cool with some reverb and delay.

I'm sure it will! I can't wait to try it out, I have some fun pedals :)

Hi Molly, do you have any tips for tuning a lyre? I recently bought a 16 string lyre similar to this one (though by Walter T.) and I was super excited to start learning my first songs but some strings won't stay in tune. I heard that strings may need some time until they actually stay in tune, especially if the instrument was newly strung, but I can literally hear some of them de-tune as soon as I remove the tuning wrench (and not just by a half-note but by several notes). Is that normal? I'm not sure whether this is something I just have to be patient about or whether this is a problem with the instrument that I can fix somehow? Any advice or tips and tricks would be greatly appreciated!

Someone else suggested putting colored nail polish or small stickers on the tips of the tuning pegs to help identify the strings.

I have a few craft jewels left over from a harp project, so I think I may go that route. Good idea 😊

I got this from Amazon today, and had to return it due to damage to the wood. I’m curious which of the solid body lyres you prefer-the Aklot, the pretty blue iridescent one, or the 19 string green solid body lyre. I’ll order one of them through your link. Thanks so much! Rick in Omaha

wow, this sounds good out of the box! How long this can hold the tuning?
