After a super long break in posting regular videos it feels amazing to be back. That's all...enjoy the video. Comment below. You know the deal.
Hi Andy.
I was following your channel and applied your advices and eventually landed my first job last year when I was 42 years old. I very much appreciate what you do. Good to see you back.
Love to hear!!!
I was stuck as a starbucks barista in Naperville with no real goals or anything at 30 years old. Decided to go the self-taught route and landed a job after a while. Been working as a software dev for about 5 years now. You're earlier vids were some I watched to keep myself motivated. Ty for the content, appreciate you
I grew up in the ville! And love to hear this...thanks for the support.
@ericdavidheredia Cool. In Chi too. Used Flatiron School online after rigorous liberal arts degree. Being analytical and methodical so programming was a fit. Many many bumps in learning curriculum. Hard stuff AND fun.
Welcome back man. You're one of the first Tech guys I followed. Good to see you still shining.👍
Much appreciated!
Andy, you helped me when you were in Chicago and I was at Flatiron School wanting additional support. On our call you were almost dissuading me from your [then] mentorship program as I was struggling yet still had a lot of resources through FI already. No upsell from you! I never forgot that talk. Thanks Andy. You’re the real deal. Mad respect from this Chicagoan. Welcome back.
I remember! Hope all is well :-)

Good to see you're back, love your channel.. Your videos keep me focused on my goals
Glad to be back as well. Thanks for the support.
Welcome back, Andy. Wow, it's been 5 years already! Wowza, and here I am with a job in code a few years later! 😎
Hey Andy, welcome back brother. I missed your videos. It's good to have you back.
Thank you for the warm welcome back!!
Great to see you again Andy👍
Welcome 🎉🎉 Back!!
Good to see you !! Really appreciate your work. 👊
Appreciate it! Thank you.
Great video. Thanks Andy
Glad to see you making a new video Andy I love it
Hope you enjoyed it!
Welcome back man happy to see you again you videos really helped me a lot.
I have some questions to you if you do not mind asking :
Did you build all those projects without any guidance like watching someone building a projects and do the same as him
Did you practice problem challenges ?
Thanks
glad to see you again Andy!
More to come!
Awesome video Andy! Good to see you back on RUclips! 🙂
Thanks Nayka!
Hey Andy I follow you since 2020 when I started to learn coding, you alway giving me nice reference what is important to come through all the pitfalls. by the way I loved the animation while you were talking. Cheers!
Love to hear this...thanks for the kind words!
Great to have you back ❤
Thank you! 😃
thank you for this vid, love ya !!
whew you're timing is perfect. I just finished my Javascript course and as I'm looking at these job descriptions, i'm feeling like I still don't know enough and nearly jumped into the next coding language. So instead, I'll get to building my JS portfolio projects! I'm curious to where the standard is now though with the tech layoffs then rehires. Do you think entry level developers need to know even more things at base level since?
Thank You!!!❤
Stipe Miocic helping us to develop our codding skills!
How did you manage to finish that massive textbook (700 pages) in 1 month as a complete beginner to programming ? That's really an impressive feat. I mean, considering you must have taken notes, re-read difficult parts, spent time doing exercises, etc.
Hey! New subscriber here:) I wanted to ask if the book head first is still relevant as it was published in 2014 and js had a revision and some changes in 2015. Were bigger changes applied? Is there any other (after 2015) resource that you would recommend to complement the book. Thank you in advance!!
Hey Andy! I have a question for you. I am currently learning Svelte for Web Dev but My dream is to become Backend Developer but I can't figure out an language to learn. I was thinking about Java or C# but can't decide. Do you have any opinions on that?
How many projects should I have on my portfolio? As a junior frontend dev
Did you go to school for computer science AFTER you started self teaching?
Welcome back! I actually have that Headfirst Javascript book but never opened it because people said the info was outdated. Do you think its worth the read in 2023 as a noob programmer?
Yes! It’s not outdated. The idea is to learn the fundamentals which it does perfectly. The updated aspects of JavaScript you’ll be able to pick up along the way.
how long would it take u to make that same tetris app today? :D
Thank you
You're welcome
@AnySterkowitz can you show us the portofolio of projects you build ?! I bet there is none :)))
Ty for the video!! Would you advise Harvards free CS50 (intro to computer science) course ??? Also any advice for when you're trying to solve a problem, yet you have no ideas how/// brain is blank....
@ferfykins. 1)The Harvard CS50 is free so who WOULDN’T do it? My friend is studying undergraduate Computer Science. He ‘s ambitious and in last yr & took course- about 3.5 months while doing his own university classes. Said it was thorough and grueling.
Try Stack Overflow. It’s a q&a for programmers. When I got stuck and after hours of trying to figure it out on my own, that’s where I went. Some high level pros get snarky so have a thick skin. Good luck.
ty :)@@cUser691
I did the lessons and assignments (except the final project), it is a good introduction. The book 'computer science distilled' is a nice introduction as well. Understanding a bit about binary and the mechanics of computers is useful, if albeit not practical for say web development.
Hello sir your link is not working for mentorship. Can you resend me a new one please?
I'm an Uber driver based in phx and I am 42 years old do you think I have an opportunity to get a job in this field. Btw I have an it background but not in usa
@user-rn7qt2su7o. Look, you’re never too old to do anything. Well, if you were 80 yrs old maybe you’d have dementia and that’d make it hard to concentrate and to become a programmer 🤣. I hate when people ask if at age X can they do some career. Do it man! You can do it. After Ubering get on your computer and crank it out for 2 hrs/night. Good luck.[Lived in AZ - miss the mild winters. ]
I can't find your link 🔗
And i am in Africa
Hi Andy, I need some mentor for my programming journey because I am in transition from finance so this field very new for me. Also I have 1 kid, it's quite challenging to learn programming for long hours
Just wondering, How many hours were you putting in per day while you were working? And after you quit your job, Did you just code every day for 8 months straight?... How did you pay your bills ??😅
You say you started with JavaScript but from what I can tell, JS should be learned after HTML & CSS. Did you already have that knowledge or did you skip that? If you skipped it, how useful was the language without the other two?
Should I fear AI and the developements in Ai getting into softwaredevelopement in September 2023 and onwards? Some are saying AI will take those jobs away!
with just that book how can you make a that game bro
It was a grind for sure. It was extremely slow going and I wasn't exaggerating when I said I spent ALL of my free time on it (after quitting my job).
Isn't that book outdated now?
Nope. Still relevant.
Does it make sense to start learning now considering AI is taking over ?
Same question
Thinking about that as well.
Yeah, when you take some time learning, the dopamine runs out. You just feel like you're not learning anything new
@anddSterkowitz, is it right that you earn your money from RUclips. This programming stuff is a facade for you to influence people to go into programming and watch your videos?
Beter late than never, started with my 2023 NY resolution: Learning #Processing and #p5js. Found this nice YT channel from @AlgorithmicArt to get going
Not for the sake of a job, but keep my mind busy and create nice things I can plot out on my soon to have AxiDraw A4 plotter.
