What happens if you don't use the gas shutoff before the mechanical filters? You mentioned that it keeps the filter from breaking, but I've seen some designs where the filter are used without the shutoff. Is it really necessary?
The filter works without it. It is a pre-causion for a specific case. In case of this setting (valve at 0.1g) that would be: full 1kg packages of the same gas coming continuously (no empty tiles) for 10000 times. Then you would have the filter of of that specific gas breaking for around 2 packages long. Meaning you may get a gas mixture. So why this extreme caution? because if you have 2 gaspumps that run continuously while sucking up co2 in the lower base parts this is a scenario that comes up after a few cycles. I probably don't need it at the moment but i would also have forgotten to add it later. so why not do it now :D
So unless I have a constant flow of full packages of the same gas for a long time, the filter will not break, right? If I understand correctly, you can also use a gas valve to limit the flow to 999.9g/s, so the filter will never break (and also powerless) Is there any advantage using the shutoff instead?
Yeah excactly. The valve should work too. The advantage of the sut off is that you can use it as a shutoff if you ever want to work on the filter. But both is fine. That was the first solution I came up with at that time and stuck to it :D
Would it not have been better to build the food storage "upside down" from the way you showed in this video? That way the food is sitting on the cold metal tiles instead of the insulated ones?
