I was listening to this in the car the other day because I was in the middle of nowhere and there were no FM stations. All of a sudden I got a pop-up on my phone to bluetooth connect to a really nice pair of headphones, and I ABSOLUTELY hit yes, because the thought of some teenager stuck in the car getting blasted with this song in particular made me laugh so hard!! I doubt it worked but I had a really really fun 5 minutes on a boring highway in Arizona. :)
I never get tired of listening to this one. TMBG is so versatile and this is a perfect example of that. They truly captured the essence of 80's club music in this one.
The most underrated moment, also the best moment, is when John goes down to a lower note to sing the "I" in "... and I can love again" in the final chorus at 2:50. Chills.

Tbh this is probably my favorite tmbg ever, It has such a unique vibe, its upbeat but also quite melancholy... I kinda interpret it as how things change as time goes on, the world doesn't stop for you. "They fixed up the corner store like it was a night club, its permanently disco" is a great example of this, its like the narrator is singing about returning to his old town or somewhere he's been before which used to be familiar and he's realizing how much its changed while he was gone. Everyone's having fun at the newly renovated nightclub without him, he is insignificant in the grand scheme of things. But at the same time he starts to accept the fact things have changed and although he misses parts of the past, he can still enjoy the things now. This is only my interpretation of the song though but I really wanted to share since it means a lot to me personally. I have trouble dealing with the passing of time and all I'd wish for in my life was to be able to go back to "the good old days".. I miss my childhood a lot but unfortunately we cant stop time.. things around us change and this song really helps me cope with that fact.
