why do girls who are exceptional athletes believe they 'cannot' jump smash? for top athletes like this it's just a matter of training and practice. combined with being a little slower and weaker than men at this level, the missing jump smash creates 'slack' and flatness in their attack and makes it easier to defend than attacks from male players at a comparable level. because of greater strength, their male counterparts hit harder. but because of the jump smash they also hit 1) steeper, and 2) earlier. result of all this is you get some long, interesting rallies in womens doubles. another thing to note here is these girls are disciplined in sustaining the attack even when it is being repeatedly repelled and rarely resort to clears because of being too tired to continue the attack as you sometimes see in womens doubles. in any case these girls have amazing defensive and all-around court skills, and it's a learning experience and pleasure to watch them
