I bought this grinder to pair with my GaggiaCP. Been using it several times daily for "bout 6 months. My rationale was that I could get better quality burrs in a quality hand grinder over an electric grinder costing 2 to 3 times as much. Its simple, well made, and easy to maintain.. I realized this after disassembling for the first time today to clean it, after it jammed up on me for putting store- ground coffee in to regrind finer. But I couldn't find the manual on their website, so I really appreciated your vid. Good as new. Thanks.
Thank you very much for watching. Those hand grinders are very good indeed. I recently compared K Ultra with my electric grinder that cost 10 times more and results were very interesting. ruclips.net/video/PDFO8Em-2aM/видео.htmlsi=sbvr2Uqw97mF74_a
This worked for the K Ultra as well. I was nervous about taking it apart for the first time to clean it, and you made doing it a breeze. Thank you for creating such a helpful video and explaining it in such an easy to understand manner.
If you have the kind of 1Zpresso with the handle that folds in, would you please consider doing a how-to video on that? Mine does not fold easily, and I'm afraid to force it, in case I'm doing it wrong and I accidentally break it.
@@MichaelKoye I’m sure I done that during unboxing video. It can be tricky but all you need to do is push first and then twist it. Not sure how strong you are but it does seem very robust so no need to worry.
I never comment on youtube videos Jack, but you really helped me with clear instructions and i gave it my first try to clean/calibrate my grinder and it was so easy! Thank you!
I found out the hard way that the bearing at the top is not fixed. It can fall out when the shaft is out and the body of the grinder is inverted. A bit of panic here while I looked for the tiny bearing that was hiding. Thanks for your insights. Nice presentation and very useful.
Salvou meu moedor. Tava com o rolamento oxidado e resolvi! Abri o moedor como você indicou, dei um banho de wd40 e desengripou. Show!!! Muito obrigado! E feliz ano novo!
Hi Jack, the new calibration instruction show that rather than tightening it beyond zero, we should tighten until you feel resistance with turning the handle. Over tightening could lock up the grinder.
Don’t remember exactly. Maybe they changed something since. I sold my K Max some time ago and went for K Ultra. If I remember correctly the process itself was very straightforward.
Hi Jack! Great channel! Question for you... with the C40, at zero the handle doesn't move freely, but when you do one click, the burrs are unlocked and the handle spins freely. I just got a ZP6 and something that's bothered me is that 1Zpresso isn't very clear on whether the zero point should be burr lock or simply the last click before the burrs start to rub together. As the ZP6 and K-Max share a similar calibration method, can you clarify if setting zero involves tightening the burrs until the handle no longer moves freely?
Hey Jack I hope you are well 😀. I ordered a K-Max which arrived today and love it so far. I made a pour over at 8.5 and later an Aeropress brew at number 6 and I really enjoyed them both. I'm no expert at describing taste, but for me compared to the Comandante C40, it tasted like it has a bit less body but the K-Max has more clarity and sweetness and defined notes which I personally prefer. How do you find the tatse between the two grinders? Also what I found worked calibration wise, was to close the adjustment dial first so the red dot was already at 0, then push in the burrs and keep applying pressure whilst I inserted the washers and screwed on the thumb nut last at the top.
Congratulations, you should be very happy with your new grinder. I sold mine some time ago and now own K Ultra which enhances fruity aroma. As for Max vs 40 I think I agree with you, maybe c40 is a bit sweeter but that also depends on the coffee and brew methods. Max is definitely easier to use and much faster.
Hello! I'm a complete beginner and I received my K-Ultra. I think I fucked up my grinder. It was on the 3 position originally but I went anti clockwise to 0 and 9.5, it was really hard to move but like an idiot I went beyond 0 and now I can't move the grinder... Is there any way I can fix it? Also, what do you mean it "stop" at zero ? Does that mean you can't move the grinder beyond 0 at all, or you can if you force it? Thank you in advance, your videos are really helpful.
Sorry to hear about your issue. Ideally the grinder should stop at 0 and you should not be able to easily go past that. If it stops b4 or after you need to calibrate. Not sure what happened with yours. Maybe the burrs just stuck. Are you able to disassemble the grinder and put it back again? Good luck and keep me posted please.
@@mycoffeeshow111 Yeah the burrs are stuck. I can't disassemble it because it's overtightened, I can't turn the adjustment dial ring and can't push the burr with my thumb. I think I'll ask for a replacement.
Hi, did you get your grinder fixed? I had similar issue with my K-max and I ended up sending it back to 1Zpresso to fix it. At first they said I had to pay for shipping but I showed them their instructions, which I followed, didn't match what they were describing on how to calibrate. They agreed to pay shipping and they updated their instruction.
Hi thx for your video, maybe you can help me is it noraml that my K ultra has more than 10 numbers i mean that i can go over one full turn 0 to 0 + 3,5 = arround 13.5 ? thx
The center shaft of my K-Max won’t come out. In all videos I watched, it doesn’t look it requires so much of a push down from the top but I pushed until my fingers hurt and eventually stopped. Tried to pull the burr from the bottom a bit as well but didn’t want to force it. Why do you think this could be?
Hmmm. I haven’t had any problems with that. Would it be possible that some of the coffee beans stuck and are holding it? Maybe try to tap gently on the side?
Thank you very much. I have done a video about it long time ago (ruclips.net/video/vWLxnlkLfiY/видео.html). Since then I put SSP MP burrs in so maybe it is a good time to try it again. Right now I would say K-Max but I reserve the right to change my mind after more tests.
Still cant decide between the C40 and K-Max. C40: Better Burr-Steel (58 HRC i read) against K-Max (stainless 420? if correct would be 50 HRC). But the K-Max is faster (!). The mechanism of the C40 with the process of finding the zero guarantees that your grind size is always consistent, also over time. I dont know if its the case with the K-Max too. Thats why im thinking right now to get myself a C40 (only for travelling, but at the moment i travel 6 months, i use only moka pot and medium roasts) Btw: Great channel, i just found you. Youre content is way beyond your video editing, but thats fine for me :)
Thank you. The amount of thought you put into this is almost like if you were choosing a life partner 😛 In reality you should be happy with any of them, K-Max faster, easier to change settings, C40 slower but you put less effort into grinding and coffee is often a bit sweeter. I haven’t used any of them for moka pot (I know I promised that video some time ago) but I don’t think you will notice much taste difference. As for video editing, I do it on the phone, on the train in between my work appointments. It got a bit better since I started a year ago. I was inspired by Hoon’s channel and wanted to replicate kind of more relaxed, homemade style. When I get to around 50k subscribers maybe I will upgrade this side of content creating as well.
@@mycoffeeshow111 I already have a life partner, so i have the time :D. I have an affinity to the mechanical part. Im sure i myself will not taste ANY difference between these two, but i want to be happy. And if the engraved 0 doesnt line up with the point were the handle/burr is not moving by itself (like true zero) and i couldnt rely on my settings this would totally annoy me. Its a small detail but i guess the team behind the comandante considered exactly this while not putting any numbers on the scale. This way you can also share your amount of clicks with others and will get the same result. So i will go with the comandante, even though i really really love that machined look of the K-max. At home i use a Zuriga mill (small swiss brand, they too claim the mill to be calibrated so you can compare your settings with others, im not sure if it really works so good though... :D ) with which im quiet happy, so this one is just for travelling.
