    Okay, so no one likes Praetorium, right? I've been avoiding it for an entire expansion and completely missed the matching motif in 'The Burn'! Even then, I never put two and two together. Maybe hearing the opening to Shadowbringers so much when I started playing got me to match those two together, but sorry my ear was off for that part of the list!

    The thing I love most about Of Countless Stars is how it's so deeply in conversation to the dungeon. Or rather...outright defiance of it. Meteion is telling you how, time and again, she encountered worlds lost to despair, and how it's simply not worth it and to just give in. Your response? Cool story, don't care.
    Also, I would like to give an honourable mention to a personal favourite: Gates of the Moon, from Doma Castle. It encapsulates the strategic chaos you're unleashing to get a foothold, as well as giving the musical equivalent of "WELCOME TO THE FINDING OUT PHASE" as it gives a wonderful moment of finally putting the Garleans on the back foot, and gaining ground in the fight back.

      Also, bless you for having Carrots of Happiness on the list. It holds a dear place in my heart as I was on VC with friends doing Smileton with me,. we were talking, and as soon as the music hit for me it was a full on, record scratch "Excuse me?!" moment that I will always treasure.

    I've loved "Ink Long Dry" since my first trip through Great Gubal Library. But the one not on this list that I think deserves an honorable mention is the track from Malikah's Well. You get this spooky dungeon delve ambience that pulls in musical themes from the bleak vaporwave BGM in Amh Araeng, which itself sets a great atmosphere for how utterly doomed the region is.

    Of course A Long Fall is on the top,, it's just so damn good, I just need a Dungeon that takes Alexander's music so I can have fun singing "and forward and back and then forward and back..."

    The Burn does refernce an older song and directly relates to Gaius who we find there. It's uses the Praetorium leitmotif.

    I would like to point out that Miracle Works is a faster version of "Sky Unsundered" with percussion and a sense of direction. That's how it feels familiar despite you only hearing it for the first time.

    • @Zivalene
      @Zivalene  3 месяца назад +1

      Well, yes, most dungeon themes are similar to the map you enter them from. I meant that the mobs are familiar because they are unsundered versions of monsters from the present.

    I think it speaks to Soken's talent that narrowing it down is really hard, because he really doesn't miss nailing the feel of whatever he composes for, even across music genres. The man just does not miss.
    I think the core of my list is pretty similar, though I'd be remiss to not mention some of these:
    Apologies (Sohr Khai)
    Grounded (Xelphatol)
    Gates of the Moon (Doma Castle)
    Earth, Wind, and Water (Swallow's Compass)
    To Fire and Sword (Holminster Switch)
    Unwound (Qitana Ravel)
    Garlemald Express (Tower of Babil)

    • @Zivalene

      Garlemald Express is so good! I almost put it in my list. I also like Sohr Khai and Pharos Sirius. It was hard to come down to 10, and even then, I switched the order of the list at least 4 times.

    1 and 2 are absolutely true ❤ Twinning was the song i was so looking forward to after watching the ShB Job Trailer vid.
    Mortal Instants is just so hauntingly beautiful, absolutely my favourite dungeon in the game for the story and atmosphere.
    Add in Emet’s narration the entire run; this isn’t a tale being written, or even a story being told. It’s a Memory being recalled.
    The pure essence of music accompanying the question “Would you like to watch your planet Die, as I did?”

    All good dungeon themes. Although for me Smilton's theme fills me with dread because for some reason the first part before the first boss causes my motion sickness to act up... It's so bad I have to actually close my eyes every time I enter one of the doors that moves you around... Anyone else who have motion sickness have problems with it or is it just me?

      @rugalbernstein5913 3 месяца назад

      @@Zivalenerespectfully disagree, Stormblood is actually when the game mechanics start actually getting good. Its a major step up from Heavensward where all of the attacks are cookie cutter level and especially ARR where you can practically ignore 90% of the attacks with little consequence.

      @@rugalbernstein5913 So, TP was a good mechanic? And if we're going based on improvement from the previous expansion instead of the expansion on it's own merit, that makes ShB better since it removed TP, added even more difficult mechanics and Ultimates as well as QoL changes like flying in all zones.
