if you want to play this game more (you should), please note: this is NOT a traditional "metroidvania" game or anything like that, its basically an ecosystem simulator where you are the prey until you learn how to evade predators, and you have a goal that isnt obvious at all. just either explore or listen to the yellow guy, he sometimes points to where you should go. there are also no real upgrades, theres only "glow" and "understand speech" (of course these are not the actual names). i dont want to spoil more stuff tho

@@heir_evoke the objective is 'git gud'. the game won't outright narrate to you what your life purpose is. You gotta figure it out for yourself. The universe doesn't revolve around you However, that weird yellow thing may ocasionally point you in a direction. why? who knows. but it's a start :)

Creatures don't have random spawns. Unlike most games, they don't have an "idle range". As long as they're in the same region their AI continues to do its thing. The AI is made up from simple things, but results in emergent behaviour. While you're walking around exploring, every creature also wanders around (in the same region - not necessarily in the same room) doing their own thing. They hunt, flee from their natural predators, or exhibit territorial behaviour. One time you walk into a room full of chaos with green lizards fighting each other and other species as part of their territorial behavior, and an adult noodlefly (worm mosquito) obliterating a pink lizard for trying to eat one of its young. Next time, it's completely empty. You never know what will happen, which can make the game unfair to the player but it is a simulated ecosystem that in the end is not about *you* Tip: Sometimes it's worth it to just forgo progress and explore a bit. Especially when you're just starting. Karma is only for opening region gates (that require a certain level up to level 5) and something else which is your only way of actually ending the game without the Downpour DLC. I highly recommend buying the DLC too. Depending on what slugcat you play, you need a certain amount of hits on a creature to kill it. Monk has the lowest damage, survivor is basic, and hunter has high damage. With survivor you need 6 or 7 normal spear hits to kill a green lizard. Holding down + left/right + jump initiates a slide in the direction you're walking. Throwing during a slide gives a small bonus. Another way of dealing extra damage is to throw a spear right into a lizard's open mouth. Very risky, but high damage and prolonged stun time. Also, there's one video explaining a bit about Rain World and you can summarise it perfectly: Rain World is a masterclass in bullshit and that's the point. It's not about you. In the end, your actions have hardly any significance in the long run other than for your own sake.
ok, somethings important to know: 1. There are no upgrades, the only way to get stronger is getting good at the game. 2. You only have 1 hp, but lizards only have a CHANCE to kill you. If another creature attacks the lizard that bites you, you can escape 3. If you give food to a lizard it becomes a fwiend 4. All creatures want to survive, so if you attack them they may escape 5. Learn the movement: backflips, rolling, sliding, etc... But just the basics
Fighting in Rain World is generally not worth it (with the exception of having to get food as certain slugcats, namely Hunter (base game), Artificer and Spearmaster (arti and spearmaster are Downpour DLC-exclusive, plus neither of them don't really give you an option to play peacefully, since arti is DESPISED by the local monkeys with explosives and spears, and spearmaster has no mouth so you have to eat by stabbing stuff)), since. Of course, you can get SOME passages (fast travel unlocked by doing certain things, such as hibernating in every region or eating only plant-based food) by killing (outlaw, hunter and dragon slayer need killing to be unlocked), but passages aren't necessary to progress and are really only used when you ABSOLUTELY need them, since each passage can only be used once. Plus, by killing lizards or the aforementioned monkeys, called scavengers, you actually lower your reputation with them- which makes them MUCH more aggressive (ESPECIALLY noticeable with scavengers, as they will send out kill squads once you're on low enough reputation with them) Other than this, I also recommend doing these: -Hold a spear or a rock at all times. If a creature bites you and starts carrying you to its den, you have a chance to survive (depends on the creature), and if you survive the initial bite, you have around half a second to retaliate by throwing the rock/spear into its face after it bites you! -Go to the Remix menu and enable Rain World Remix. After you enter the game again, go to remix again and click Rain World Remix again (not on the tick that signifies it's enabled; that will disable it), and there, you can configure various QoL features. I recommend enabling: Visual Breath meter, Breath time leniency, Key items on passage (various important items get transported with you if you use a passage), Tweaked Rain Deer behavior (why does this option have to be enabled manually...), Centipede pipe protection and Stronger bottomless pit indicators. -When you hold the map button, a lot of useful information is revealed, such as your current amount of food, karma level (those symbols that appear when you sleep or die), AND the RAIN TIMER. Around the karma symbol, you'll notice dots. Those dots tell you how much time you have before the rain starts! -Juking. Creatures can't kill you if you're in a room/shortcut pipe, so you can evade creatures by letting them see you and approach you when you're near a pipe, then go into the other room via that pipe and re-enter the room you want to be in when you see the pipe flashing. -If you're going to fight against lizards, you'll need to use a rock to hit its head first, since it's impenetrable by spears, and if you hit the lizard with a rock, it will flip the lizard, revealing its soft body -Spears can be used as poles if you stab them into the terrain. -You can swallow some items for later. -Always listen carefully. Sometimes, you might not be able to see the danger, but you'll be able to hear the threat music and the sounds of creatures. -Some creatures (lizards, for example) can hear you if you walk or jump. You can use this to your advantage by throwing a rock into a wall and distracting the creature. -If you throw a rock or a spear when jumping, you give yourself a small boost. This can be quite the saving grace! I may have written a little too much... But what can I say? I'm obsessed with this game, and I'm giving people tips I wish I knew when playing for the first time. @@heir_evoke To be honest, I didn't even get into the depths of this game's mechanics... there's an 80+ page google doc with just movement tech in Rain World (though not all of it is humanly possible.) By the way, if you ever finish survivor campaign and are satisfied with the game, I absolutely recommend the Downpour DLC! There's a ton of new content, among which are 5 (6) new slugcats, each with their own story, revealing a little bit about the world (though Downpour IS technically an official AU, but most people use the Downpour AU when talking about the story of the game simply because it gives you more to go of.)... There's also an upcoming DLC, The Watcher, coming on 28th of March 2025

@@alaas1041 Absolutely not; I've noticed that, a llot of the times I end up sending paragraphs upon paragraphs with tips, most of them end up getting forgotten. Plus, the Remix tip is purely for QoL, since some things are just SO BAD in base game Rain World (The deer and no key items being brought with you with passages without having the specific settings enabled). And even with all the necessary knowledge, the game can mess people up in truly spectacular ways, and I didn't really say any tips that give much insight into the different creature uses, and I didn't say any movement tech except the throw boosting and wall spears.

Knowledge in this game is everything, you don't gain anything but knowledge. Even skills don't matter as much as knowledge in this game, in my opinion. And when you tell everything in the first video possible that's kinda like babysitting, you make sure the author of the video doesn't make a mistake and knows how to deal with things. This game must be played fully blind. Just imagine when the watcher comes out and you get to play it, you will have a guy who tells you how to deal with new creatures and what QOL settings to set. If you don't see a problem with that then there's no point in further arguments.
If you're bitten by a lizard, there's a chance(that varies between species) that determines whether or not you die. If you're bitten, the death drum thing sounds once, and the scug's eyes arent X'd out, just wait for a moment; the lizard may get in a fight and drop you.
