- god bless bruce johnston. from a discussion with joel selvin regarding his new book, hollywood eden. support him and chaucer's books here! www.chaucersbo...
(i believe the full interview will be uploaded shortly, i'll link it when it's up as there's no point in me uploading it myself!)
Bruce should have his own podcast. He has seen it all in the industry and is a great storyteller.
Really wish he'd write a memoir book but he's said for years that he will never do that sadly
Agreed!
"Do you to hear a little story?"
PLEASE, TELL US!!!! THREATEN US WITH A GOOD TIME, BRUCE!
The most loyal and consistent beach boy
So true!!!
Mikes converted Bruce to the ways of the baseball cap 😀
Bruce really *did* say “a-ha!” 🤩
Three days!?
Yeah that’s a long con
He's an evil bastard! 😄😄😄
Oh my god
That's the way the Draft worked. If you had connections you didn't go to Vietnam. You were ineligible or you got a spot in the Guard, Reserve or maybe went to West Germany. The poor kids went to grunt school and ended up in the field. And on The Wall.
Carl Wilson was close to being drafted
I watched....was great....so is the book...I thought I knew stuff...I was wrong! Couldn’t put it down...
I'm CERTAIN Bruce knew of Van Dyke Parks before Brian Wilson introduced him in 1966/7.
Why do you think that? If so, why does that really matter?
@@N0Camping4U all the inner circle of writers and producers know each other. Especially back then when the songs were coming fast and furiously.
It only matters that Bruce is suspiciously absent through alot of post Pet Sounds/ Smile Era discourse and history. I wonder why.
@@marcofalzone6469 But VDP wasn't very active in the writing/producing scene until he met Brian. He seemed to have used the collapse of Smile as a springboard for his own debut album. Bruce is absent because it was really Brian doing the heavy lifting, but Bruce was there to sing. Bruce actually appears less on Smile than on previous albums. I think he wasn't very keen on the scene and atmosphere. Toward the end - The remaining members of the band (especially Mike and Al) weren't keen either.
Awesome how cool
A very heavy joke to play on someone- and for several days....not funny IMO- when Jan Berry saw his own 1A draft card, he was so upset that he had a car crash which left him with permanent brain damage; Johnston is lucky that Melcher and Doris Day ever spoke to him again- if this story is true.
I was thinking the same. Very cruel, especially for three days. Also sad that his mom had connections who may have been able to get him out. You shouldn't get a free pass because mommy is famous when everyone else is literally sacrificing their lives. Very sad world we live in.
4-0
I asked Bruce Johnston at a Beach Boys concert in 2016 when his book was coming out, as Mike and Brian's had just been published. He indicated "never," but I figured this is exactly the kind of book he could have written, and not Beach Boys dirty laundry.
Bruce autographed a BBs hat I had & I ended up losing it.....kills me
bruc
thank you as always astro
I hope Bruce mentioned this in Confession.
“We had fun in those days!”
Uh-huh, Bruce.
Terry Melcher was a very sketchy guy imo.
