      The concept of the apostolic and universal Catholic Church is a good one, but that does not mean everyone has to unify as a melting pot. Bishop Stanislav the martyr, who unified a part with Rome, had the same idea as I show here, but that was back in the 17th century. The problem is the political and nationalist tendency in all European Orthodoxy doesn't help us. I say that as myself, being Greek Catholic from the Melkite tradition from the Holy Land. So it is difficult for us to see how one separates the church of Jesus Christ, The Father and the blessed Mother Mary by nationalism.
      For me, that nationalist Ukrainian church is a fraud and from what I understand an action of the CIA back in 2014. But maybe I did get you wrong

      Although in theory, the Ecumenical Patriarch remains first among equals, in practice he is only head of the Church of Constantinople which currently is among the smaller Orthodox Churches as it spans Turkey, Mt Athos, and some other churches outside Europe. The Patriarch of Moscow on the other hand is head of the largest Orthodox Church and a Church that is supported by a large population and the Russian state making it very powerful. Many times, his opinion is also supported by fellow patriarchs in Slavic nations. In short, no the Ecumenical Patriarch does not outweigh Moscow.

    Schism is bad, but the ROC is run by a FSB agent, and is an anachronism anyway. The ROC should rightly fall under the jurisdiction of Kiev, as it used to, and it only has its own patriarchate because they allowed the heathen Peter the Great to meddle in Church affairs. If Moscow was doing the right thing it would place itself under the juridiction of Constantinople, and be in full communion with Kiev. But instead Kiril supports the war, because his crony/lord and master Putin wants it. I had hopes, and was praying for Kirill daily at the start of this. He could have stopped the war had he been minded to. But no.
    What Kirill has done is damage the ROC, almost beyond repair. There is no doubt now that the upper echelons are under political rather than spiritual control. Once this is over the whole upper hierarchy of the ROC needs to be rooted out and expelled.for heresy. Failing that the ROC needs throwing out of the World Council of Churches and treated like pariahs until they admit what they have done.
    For those who opine that the ROC is the only true Church (and so on), please explain how the idea of Symphony is Christian, or why a church which openly indulges in ethnophyletism, and supports the heretical Russky Mir idea, based as it is on Manichaeism and Gnosticism, should be taken as any kind of Christian Church, let alone one which should be taken seriously and treated with respect?
    Also please explain why the Ukrainian state should trust the officers of a Church whose leader has openly supported Russian aggression against Ukraine, and has failed to lift a single finger to stop the Russian Army from murdering Ukrainian civilians through indiscriminate shelling for over three years? I think the Ukranians have been very patient up to now. Personally I'd have jailed every ROC priest in the nation by now.

      Peter I actually abolished the patriarchy. He did not install it. The first Russian patriarch was elected in 1589, a hundred years before Peter I, and that was supported by the Constantinopolitan patriarch Jeremiah. Peter abolished patriarchy in 1700.

    • @mikehutton3937
      @mikehutton3937 15 дней назад

      @@dmitrimikrioukov5935 I stand corrected. It was Vasily II. Apologies for the mistake. But the establishment of the Moscow Patriarchate were a matter of secular politics, later recognized/normalized by Jeremias II. The reason we ended up with a Moscow Metropolitan was because Vasily II had the metropolitan Isidore deposed, and the secular court appointed his replacement some time later. That break with Constantinople is where the rot set in. It followed with Moscow usurping Kiev as the seat of the Church, and is the start of the blurring of lines between temporal and spiritual authority which has dogged the ROC ever since.
      But that break was small beer compared with what is happening now.

      The Russian federation has used the UOC (Moscow patriarchate) as a political weapon. The blasphemy is not the law changing in Ukraine in a time where national security is threatened constantly, the blasphemy is that the Moscow patriarchate has blessed the russian invasion whole-heartedly. The hierarchy of their church has lost their moral authority in the eyes of the Ukrainian public. Cyril has become an altar boy for Putin. That is blasphemy and schism from Christianity. A politicized religion where a Russian Orthodox Church is more Russian than orthodox
      Note: this primarily concerns the hierarchy, but by making their activities illegal in Ukraine, this means less of the laity will be lead astray. The trend already started. Less people go to Moscow patriarchate churches than they did years ago. Just now the state is formally recognizing the wolf in sheep’s clothing because it concerns the state when a religious body becomes a foreign agent of a nation that is actively and violently seeking Ukraine’s death

    As for the issues of the canonicity of the UOC and the OCU, the OCU received recognition of independence and autocephaly in 2018 by the Patriarchate of Constantinople, and then by three more of the fourteen regional Orthodox churches.
    Its recognition by the remaining churches is in the process, so there is no reason to talk about its non-recognition by the other churches. Until now, none of the regional churches, except the ROC, has announced canonical non-recognition of the OCU.
    Unlike the OCU, none of the local Orthodox churches recognise the independence and autocephaly of the UOC. It is considered canonical only as part of the ROC of the Moscow Patriarchate.

      The orthodox in Ukraine aren’t being persecuted, they are free to attend wherever they wish. Over the past decade more and more orthodox attend the Orthodox Church of Ukraine instead of the “Ukrainian Orthodox Church (notice the difference in title? this “Ukrainian Orthodox Church” one has direct ties with russia). This trend is because more and more orthodox are skeptical of the Russian-backed church because the Moscow church has figuratively sold its soul to politics. It’s become more Russian than orthodox and people are noticing this. What this law is about is the states effort to intervene because now the Russian-backed church has intervened in matters of Ukrainian National security. It’s a problem when you have churches distributing literature about how Ukrainians should follow the Moscow patriarchate. A UOC church in chernivtsi Ukraine was busted for harboring Russian citizens that were illegally in the country, they had commemorative medals about the “capture of Ukrainian cities” and tons of religious literature with political narratives
