I will explain how pins can be used with a moisture sensor in order to read the moisture levels within soil.
The sensor I used :

I will explain how to activate a motor based on "dry" soil using this particular board. It may be possible to also connect the motor to the ground (Black) and P2 (Red) in order to activate the motor. Do this by setting P2 to 1024 instead of turning the motor on. Similarly set P2 to 0 instead of turning the motor off.
