Putin Meets Modi, Acknowledges Tensions With India on Ukraine

  • Russian President Vladimir Putin acknowledged Indian concerns over his invasion of Ukraine as he met Prime Minister Narendra Modi, a day after he told his Chinese counterpart he understood Beijing’s worries about the war.
    Speaking at the opening of talks Friday in Samarkand, Uzbekistan, Modi told Putin that “today’s era is not one for war,” according to footage shown on Indian public broadcaster Doordashan. The two were attending a summit of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization, a Chinese-led group seen as a counter to US-dominated alliances.
    The Indian leader spoke after Putin, who acknowledged tension over the issue. “I know your stance on the conflict in Ukraine and the concerns you constantly express,” Putin said. “We’ll do everything to end this as soon as possible.”
    Though it was he who ordered his troops into his neighbor’s territory in February, Putin told Modi he was committed to ending the fighting and accused the Ukrainian leadership of not wanting to negotiate a peace deal. Kyiv has said it’s willing to talk only after Russia pulls its troops back to pre-invasion positions.
    While China has provided Russia with diplomatic support since the war began and accused the US of provoking Putin into action by pushing to expand NATO, Beijing has avoided military support or any violation of US sanctions. India, which relies on Russia as an energy and arms supplier, has tried to balance those ties as it comes under increasing US pressure to limit its ties with Russia.

      Because they started a full scale invasion in a sovereign nation for no logical reason at all. Thousands of people are dead and a nation is in ruins. Of course actual world leaders will condemn that in the strongest terms instead of waiting almost a year to condemn a war in polite terms. What Modi is doing is called being a coward.

    • @alanfernandez854
      @alanfernandez854 Год назад

      @@Fun-ib1xk That's pretty funny, there are always biases. Every countries leader should try to benefit said country, therefore they will act accordingly. I would say it is slightly against freedom of speech, although it would hurt the country by causing destabilization from disinformation. Freedom of speech is a right, but doing it at that high of a cost is not viable. There are limits. Everyone knows this. Yelling fire in a crowded theater and someone getting hurt will get you some legal charges. I know it's the example used a lot, but it's true. RT just outright lies, just as the Kremlin do. They are state owned, so they will push the Russian state narrative at all costs, even if they are lying. Painfully obvious at this point that they lie all the time. Why doesn't Russia let other news come through? It would destroy the control of the narrative that they have in Russia itself causing a division of opinions and eventually activism against the government. So yea, reasons.

      India is placating Putin to get that cheap crude Oil. As a supporter of Capitalism I applaud their tactfulness. However, other signs make it clear that India is NOT supporting Russia’s invasion. Example; the India media outlets are referring to the Ukraine invasion as a “WAR”, not a special, super nice guy, operation. That is hugely symbolic. At Modi’s statement regarding having time to understand Putin’s perspective; you know Putin is thinking “I have been clear from the start, why say this publicly?” Very symbolic, again.
