I think Discord wanted to teach Twilight about jealousy and letting your friends share something without including you, because he himself had to learn about having multiple friends in Make New Friends But Keep Discord.
I get where you're coming from and I definitely adore seeing everyone become closer to Discord, but a few things keep me from fully embracing this episode, mainly Discord's motivation and how this fits into his overall character arc. I have no issue with him being occasionally cruel, it's part of the character's charm, but just putting it in perspective... it's hard for me to really see why he would do any of this. In literally his last appearance before this one, he himself learned how awful it feels to be left out and struggle with feelings of jealousy. Why, next time he appears would he immediately think, "now let's make Twilight feel that!"--especially considering where Twilight's Kingdom left him, with Twilight forgiving him despite the severity of his errors and standing by him as a true friend? I really do like that he's shown to be friendly with the other five, but Discord picking on Twilight, trolling her like he did in season four, it just feels odd to me after that. Twilight is probably the one amongst them he still really needs to prove himself to the most since she is the one whom his actions have most damaged, and while I guess something like this is helping her in a roundabout way, it just feels disingenuous to where the characters should be at this point. So yeah, personally, I kind of wish the episode was just all this bonding and it was only Twilight's own distrusting nature which created the conflict. He's an agent of chaos, a formerly malevolent one, who has been illustrated to have so much to learn himself when it comes to friendships. Setting him up as the one giving out lessons, I don't know if it really works so well. Three's a Crowd worked because the lesson he taught Twilight was wholly an unintentional one. He was really trying just to see how far Twilight would go for him, which made perfect sense for his character in that point in his arc. Princess Twilight Sparkle too, I don't think he's set out to teach her anything but rather just find amusement at Twilight's expense.

I love this episode because of Discord and Twilight Sparkle getting character development. I love how the episode starts with Twilight Sparkle reorganizing the castle’s library again. I'm glad Spike got to have some fun over the weekend. I love how sarcastic Spike is in this entire episode. I love how Discord looks when flying fast and I love how he jokes around with Rainbow Dash. I agree with Twilight about how it's weird how Rainbow Dash is friendly with Discord but I was happy about this development. Discord being friends and having inside jokes with all the main 6 besides Twilight Sparkle was really weird but I'm glad he’s being accepted by everyone. It's really interesting that Twilight won't admit she is jealous. I love how she 1st goes about figuring out why their friends now by making up the excuse that it's help friendship research and ponies across Equestria. I love how Pinkie Pie makes a Back to the Future reference. I love all of the antics Discord gets up to in this episode. I thought at that point that Discord was trying to teach Twilight Sparkle a lesson because of the way he was acting. I find it scary that Twilight Sparkle started to revert to habits from Lesson Zero with her believing Discord has her friends under a spell and her crazy plan to reveal it. I love that we get to see Zecora in this episode because I think she is awesome and hilarious. Also I love how the cauldron in the middle of her hut is just for show. I love how Twilight Sparkle just out right tells her friends what she thinks is going on. Also I love how out of all of her friends Fluttershy is the most angry about her accusations. Even though it's sad the scene where Twilight Sparkle talks about her jealousy and her friends reassurances is really heartwarming. I like how once they realize that Discord was trying to teach Twilight a lesson when he realized she was jealous the main 6 are all a little upset and disappointed in him. This is obviously because even though he was doing it for a good reason it was still not a very nice thing to do. I felt really bad for Discord when he felt left out but I'm glad they made up at the end. Even though Discord went about it the wrong way this episodes lesson was something Twilight Sparkle needed to learn. Also it gets creepier and creepier every time we see Starlight Glimmer stalking Twilight Sparkle this time in a bush with binoculars.
I think it's cool that you're doing written reviews now. You've always been one of m favorite reactors, mainly because you always keep a positive attitude during your reactions. I don't mind negative opinions, but sometimes it's nice to hear a positive opinion, especially on this particular episode. I mean, I've seen a couple of opinions claiming this episode to be one of the worst episodes of the show (not many, mind you, but enough to catch my attention), which is just so odd to me. If I wasn't a fan of this show, and was shown this episode, being told that this is the worst the show has to offer, I would have said "Give me more!" Anyway, I'm glad that Discord can still be friends with the Mane 6, while still keeping an edge to his character. Some people say that he's out of character in this episode, but I think it fits with the writing staff's vision for Discord. This is a quote from Jayson Thiessen, the supervising director, from the book, The Art of Equestria, about Discord. "What I like is that he started out as a villain and now he's not a villain, but he never really changed. It's really just whether or not he's trying to hurt the ponies or take over their world. He's still the chaos character that we were introduced to; it's just that now he's not doing it for evil purposes. He's essentially the genie from Aladdin in a way, or Loki--really, any sort of trickster. He can be either negative or positive, but it doesn't change his trickster nature."

I wouldn't exactly say they're completely friends. Heck this is what, the second, third time he's pulled this 'I'm playing a mean trick on you but it's okay because generic it's a lesson bullcrud' thing. At this point Twilight would be fully justified in choking him with his own beard, he certainly can't be allowed to get away with that too much more.
Gotta say, season 5 is shaping up to be one of the very best season's yet. Although, i was personally hoping that the whole discord getting along and bonding with the main 6 would be its own story arc of episodes; One for each pony. My favorite part of this episode was hands down the "Back to the Future" reference with Pinkie McFly.

At first I thought you were seeing things. Absolutely beautiful. This episode had some really spot on moments that were a lot of fun. I'm probably going to rewatch this one quite a bit. I'm also rather happy with how they became friends with Discord, but I was sort of critiquing the episode from Twilight's perspective more, which I was also very happy about. I thought it was an excellent friendship lesson.

My only issue is it seems like we missed a episode somewhere---you know, the progress of them accepting Discord as a friend we really should've seen---however guess that was the point, putting us in Twilight's exact shoes of feeling left out.
+cody2819 That, plus the fact that most of these episodes are written in a slice-of-life style. That means we only get to see slices of the whole picture, not the ponies' entire lives. This style allows the networks a little more freedom as to the order they choose to air episodes in (like if they wanted to move one to coincide with a certain holiday, for instance...)
To me, this was a filler episode that did little more than have Twilight drop a line about the rules of time travel. That a certain communist unicorn is going to abuse and nearly destroy all of Equestria in the process. Nice to see Zecora again.
For me, there are no filler episodes. Most MLP episodes are intended to be low key slice of life affairs centred around a moral. That's how it's always been.
For some reason I found this episode to be similar to "Mysterious Mare-Do-Well", just executed better. I mean, we have the whole group in on ignoring Twilight and she goes absolutely crazy over it. The thing that makes this episode better is that Twilight actually learns her lesson instead of brushing it off like Rainbow Dash did in "Mysterious Mare-Do-Well".

Another episode a lot of people seemed to dislike. I've seen people call it downright awful and say it makes them want to stop watching the series. O_O (and no, these weren't trolls but people I actually know who enjoy the show for the most part) I had my issues with the episode at first too. My biggest issue was I felt some of the characters were written kinda off. I felt Discord was a bit too "evil" instead of just "trolly", and I felt the Mane 6 were a bit too oblivious to how much they were hurting Twilight's feelings. But now that I've watched it the second time, while I still can see those issues a bit, I found the episode far better. I guess it always just depends what mood you see it in. Also, Zecora is back. YUSSSS!
+Kallo Skull (LetsPlayDMods) I'm of a similar mind to Kallo Skull (though I didn't think the Mane Six were that oblivious to Twilight, they did repeatedly try to turn conversations to what she had been doing to cheer her up and a lot of the focus on their bonding with Discord ended up being due to Twilight not letting it go). I didn't hate the episode but the first viewing did leave me feeling rather uncomfortable. But that was sorta the intention, the writer wanted the viewer to feel like Twilight did, that her friends were acting strange and she couldn't figure things out. It was a lot easier to take on a second viewing. Still felt the laughing was overdone, none of the characters have laughed that much that often over something as far as I can recall, but it was necessary for the episode's plot to work. There's enough extra things to enjoy if one can't enjoy the cringe comedy aspects too. On the other hand, I would like an episode where Discord spends the majority of it being fully genuine, in most of his appearances he spends 90% of the time acting out one agenda or another.
a problem that I personally have with this episode is the, for lack of a better word, ignorance of the Five. granted as viewers we got a clearer view of Twilight's feelings, but as her friends they should have had more consideration for her. I feel that they were being rude by continuing with the inside jokes despite the fact that an outsider was with them.

While the visual gags where enjoyable to see the overall theme of the episode felt like it could have been better if it hadn't of involved Discord's ulterior motive, and because of that this feels like more of the weaker Discord episodes that I've seen lately. Don't get me wrong Spike's expressions and like I said the visual gags were great but overall the episode was definitely lacking something, and is therefore my least favorite of the Discord related episodes.
I'm great thanks, getting hyped for both the season finale and the 10k sub mark, which I hope comes to pass before the new year. Dad is on many pills, barely eats, has strict limits on his fluid intake, and his blood is so thin that he's always cold. He's honestly pretty miserable, sitting under his blanket n his armchair all day. And we don't know what to do income-wise, because without my Grandma's help we'd be in the red now. So yeah, uncertain times in our house at the moment. But still plenty of time to figure something out.

I think my major beef with Discord is his malevolent nature. Even when he's reformed, he still wishes to give others a hard time. I guess my problem this episode was that there was no sympathy for Twilight. Yes she was jealous, but Discord had engineered the situation specifically to make her so. He's manipulative, cruel, and a liar. For me, he has a lot to make up for what he did with Tirek. I'm just glad Twilight got some payback at the end of this episode and all of them could laugh about it together. Again, I'm glad that you really see something in Discord, but I'm just not there yet.
I think I like both sides of his character, which is why I enjoy him so much. It's why Kirito in SAO Abridged, Seto Kaiba in YGO Abridged and Alucard in Hellsing Ultimate Abridged are so well loved. Some of us enjoy watching someone be an asshole as part of their character. It comes down to personal taste in the end, and whether or not you enjoy seeing that behaviour.

Even though Discord went about it the wrong way this episodes lesson was something Twilight Sparkle needed to learn. Also it gets creepier and creepier every time we see Starlight Glimmer stalking Twilight Sparkle this time in a bush with binoculars.
I think it's cool that you're doing written reviews now. You've always been one of m favorite reactors, mainly because you always keep a positive attitude during your reactions. I don't mind negative opinions, but sometimes it's nice to hear a positive opinion, especially on this particular episode. I mean, I've seen a couple of opinions claiming this episode to be one of the worst episodes of the show (not many, mind you, but enough to catch my attention), which is just so odd to me. If I wasn't a fan of this show, and was shown this episode, being told that this is the worst the show has to offer, I would have said "Give me more!"
Anyway, I'm glad that Discord can still be friends with the Mane 6, while still keeping an edge to his character. Some people say that he's out of character in this episode, but I think it fits with the writing staff's vision for Discord. This is a quote from Jayson Thiessen, the supervising director, from the book, The Art of Equestria, about Discord.
"What I like is that he started out as a villain and now he's not a villain, but he never really changed. It's really just whether or not he's trying to hurt the ponies or take over their world. He's still the chaos character that we were introduced to; it's just that now he's not doing it for evil purposes. He's essentially the genie from Aladdin in a way, or Loki--really, any sort of trickster. He can be either negative or positive, but it doesn't change his trickster nature."

When I like an episode, I don't like watching negative reactions because it makes me feel uncomfortable, so I always skip to the end of every video to check what their thoughts were before I watch the reaction itself.

Starlight pretty much qualifies as a professional stalker at this point, makes me wonder if we missed her in some previous episodes!

Oh yeah, that makes sense! Although Starlight was defeated by all of the mane six (and her own townsfolk), Twilight was the one Starlight was really after. She was also the one who confronted Starlight in the end. It only makes sense that Twi would be the one who Starlight would have chosen to plot against.
She probably wouldn't gotten them to drink it if twilight said something like "hey try this new smoothie I made"

I wouldn't exactly say they're completely friends. Heck this is what, the second, third time he's pulled this 'I'm playing a mean trick on you but it's okay because generic it's a lesson bullcrud' thing. At this point Twilight would be fully justified in choking him with his own beard, he certainly can't be allowed to get away with that too much more.

Gotta say, season 5 is shaping up to be one of the very best season's yet.
Although, i was personally hoping that the whole discord getting along and bonding with the main 6 would be its own story arc of episodes; One for each pony.
My favorite part of this episode was hands down the "Back to the Future" reference with Pinkie McFly.

This episode had some really spot on moments that were a lot of fun. I'm probably going to rewatch this one quite a bit. I'm also rather happy with how they became friends with Discord, but I was sort of critiquing the episode from Twilight's perspective more, which I was also very happy about. I thought it was an excellent friendship lesson.

I take it very few people are ever going to get the "What About Bob?" references, since it's an older movie,
but I'm glad people are liking this episode regardless.
My only issue is it seems like we missed a episode somewhere---you know, the progress of them accepting Discord as a friend we really should've seen---however guess that was the point, putting us in Twilight's exact shoes of feeling left out.

That, plus the fact that most of these episodes are written in a slice-of-life style. That means we only get to see slices of the whole picture, not the ponies' entire lives. This style allows the networks a little more freedom as to the order they choose to air episodes in (like if they wanted to move one to coincide with a certain holiday, for instance...)
To me, this was a filler episode that did little more than have Twilight drop a line about the rules of time travel. That a certain communist unicorn is going to abuse and nearly destroy all of Equestria in the process. Nice to see Zecora again.
For me, there are no filler episodes.
Most MLP episodes are intended to be low key slice of life affairs centred around a moral. That's how it's always been.

For some reason I found this episode to be similar to "Mysterious Mare-Do-Well", just executed better. I mean, we have the whole group in on ignoring Twilight and she goes absolutely crazy over it. The thing that makes this episode better is that Twilight actually learns her lesson instead of brushing it off like Rainbow Dash did in "Mysterious Mare-Do-Well".
and they weren't horrible to twilight like they where to dash in mare do well they took ruining dashys hero ego to far and dash was brgonh instead of a double lesson they blamed on rainbow dash only and seeing her sad like she was in mare do well sucks

Another episode a lot of people seemed to dislike. I've seen people call it downright awful and say it makes them want to stop watching the series. O_O (and no, these weren't trolls but people I actually know who enjoy the show for the most part)
I had my issues with the episode at first too. My biggest issue was I felt some of the characters were written kinda off. I felt Discord was a bit too "evil" instead of just "trolly", and I felt the Mane 6 were a bit too oblivious to how much they were hurting Twilight's feelings. But now that I've watched it the second time, while I still can see those issues a bit, I found the episode far better. I guess it always just depends what mood you see it in.
Also, Zecora is back. YUSSSS!
I hope not many reactors thought it was bad, because I'm looking forward to watching a lot of positive ones for an episode i really liked.
+Kallo Skull (LetsPlayDMods) I'm of a similar mind to Kallo Skull (though I didn't think the Mane Six were that oblivious to Twilight, they did repeatedly try to turn conversations to what she had been doing to cheer her up and a lot of the focus on their bonding with Discord ended up being due to Twilight not letting it go). I didn't hate the episode but the first viewing did leave me feeling rather uncomfortable. But that was sorta the intention, the writer wanted the viewer to feel like Twilight did, that her friends were acting strange and she couldn't figure things out. It was a lot easier to take on a second viewing. Still felt the laughing was overdone, none of the characters have laughed that much that often over something as far as I can recall, but it was necessary for the episode's plot to work. There's enough extra things to enjoy if one can't enjoy the cringe comedy aspects too. On the other hand, I would like an episode where Discord spends the majority of it being fully genuine, in most of his appearances he spends 90% of the time acting out one agenda or another.
a problem that I personally have with this episode is the, for lack of a better word, ignorance of the Five. granted as viewers we got a clearer view of Twilight's feelings, but as her friends they should have had more consideration for her. I feel that they were being rude by continuing with the inside jokes despite the fact that an outsider was with them.

While the visual gags where enjoyable to see the overall theme of the episode felt like it could have been better if it hadn't of involved Discord's ulterior motive, and because of that this feels like more of the weaker Discord episodes that I've seen lately. Don't get me wrong Spike's expressions and like I said the visual gags were great but overall the episode was definitely lacking something, and is therefore my least favorite of the Discord related episodes.

Dad is on many pills, barely eats, has strict limits on his fluid intake, and his blood is so thin that he's always cold. He's honestly pretty miserable, sitting under his blanket n his armchair all day.
And we don't know what to do income-wise, because without my Grandma's help we'd be in the red now.
So yeah, uncertain times in our house at the moment. But still plenty of time to figure something out.

Ugh.... This episode is infuriating. You have no idea how much I dislike Discord. I think it's great you like him so much. I just don't see it.

He acts a lot like his inspiration, Q from Star Trek. So I guess you wouldn't like Q either :(
I think my major beef with Discord is his malevolent nature. Even when he's reformed, he still wishes to give others a hard time. I guess my problem this episode was that there was no sympathy for Twilight. Yes she was jealous, but Discord had engineered the situation specifically to make her so. He's manipulative, cruel, and a liar. For me, he has a lot to make up for what he did with Tirek. I'm just glad Twilight got some payback at the end of this episode and all of them could laugh about it together.
Again, I'm glad that you really see something in Discord, but I'm just not there yet.
I think I like both sides of his character, which is why I enjoy him so much.
It's why Kirito in SAO Abridged, Seto Kaiba in YGO Abridged and Alucard in Hellsing Ultimate Abridged are so well loved. Some of us enjoy watching someone be an asshole as part of their character.
It comes down to personal taste in the end, and whether or not you enjoy seeing that behaviour.
