I own the DMS-700 and I think your review is spot on. I tried a few other comparably priced digital sources in my system such as Lumin and AURALiC. The Cary DMS-700 was the right fit for me. The DMS-700 did take about 200 hours to break-in and show it's full potential. I have the DMS-700 connected to T+A PA 3000 HV integrated. I do find the interconnects can make a difference.
The caps in that dac are like industrial grade cheapy chinese stuff...2 big Nichicon caps are good. The dac looks like it is dual mono and has a good design. the transformer is really junky but isolated to prevent leakage from emi. The boards look good.Build is a mixed bag really. For the money look at an Auralic Ares g2.1 or the new Aurender N200.
Great Caps are made in China and Taiwan now also, most Nichicon caps are now made in Malaysia.... The market has changed, The Chinese have caught up to the Japanese in Cap Quality.
Totally agree, I own the Auralic Aries G2.1 and it’s half the price. With the other half you can buy yourself a top shelf dac and have way more flexibility than this setup offers.
Sometimes I look at audio equipment and have no idea how they charge what they do. The app on this looks horrendous and the styling of the unit is equally hopeless. For £8k, the options out there for a streamer/dac unit or combo are large so for me I can’t see how this will sell.
I have a Cary SI-300.2D powering Bowers and Wilkins Nautilus 802D speakers.. I have cheap speaker cables which are 15 feet feet long each side. Could you recommend some speaker cables please.
Hi Terry. Enjoying your thoughts as usual, but I wondered if you've decided to move away from your sound clips? They seem to be increasingly thin on the ground and for me that was one of the things that set you apart. ATB😉
No def not I have one coming for the the review of the amp. I have only missed one product review recently for a sound demo and I feel like if people don't believe me by now after all the sound demos I have done they are not working :) cheers Bill
8K for DAC and or streamer is just crazytown, quality electronics simply don't cost that much to make. I'll say that it may cost a max of $500 to make the unit and they are selling for 8K, nice to profit from suckers.
@@deanmcpherson The P1 is a pretty serious piece of kit as well. This is Linn, Lumin etc territory and that is fierce competition especially as the brand has no European heritage.
@@PursuitPerfectSystem Understand, but bearing in mind the cost and therefore the ability to bring the very best out out of quality components I believe it is relevant. This is going head to head with dual mono players and Fibre network at this price point and I can’t think that many would not consider the quality of signal to be a key factor here. I am not being critical just realistic for people who would seriously consider a player for this money.
Brushed metal is hard to get on camera and make look nice because the grain reflects light. I have this issue with quite a few products so maybe there is something I could do better with lighting

I have the DMS-550 and it's amazing.
I have a question. When listening to Qobuz or Tidal using a streamer connected via HDMI which DAC is being used? Streamer or external preamp/receiver?

Thanks for your review. Have You compared how this device sounds vs ML 5101?
Sorry I haven't heard the ML to know what its like
Nice vid, i have x1 lumin. I like cary. Today i torture myself with intro of direc to my ht. Almost out of rabbit hole.

What about time to design someone to make, shipping storage tax wages property rent and then worldwide distribution.
Will you review the Grimm audio streamer please it looks amazing
Doesn't the Cary amplifier have a streamer in it as well?
No streamer in the 300.2D

Seems a viable Lumin alternative
At almost twice the cost of a LUMIN T2 it needs to be incredible to be a real alternative

There a certain “cheapness” to the aesthetics of Cary that I cannot look past.
