I love this video! Thankyou for showing me your "neglected, failed" garden. It makes me feel better about my garden intentions falling short. Even in what looks like chaos, you find it is not a fail, and that there is much positive still coming through in your garden.💚💚💚💚💚

Thanks so much for the lovely reply and for your understanding. There's a lot of pressure to have the "perfect" garden all the time and nothing in life can be like that. So thanks very much for your kindness. 🤗❤️

All the best to Brian for a speedy recovery. Being in Ireland you don't have worry about snakes in the garden. Take care and all the best.

Thanks for the very kind wishes, Brian and I appreciate it! Yes thankfully we don't have to worry about snakes at least! The worst thing here is just wasps! 🐝

@@webdesignbelfast Thanks! A lot of work to do, but it's so satisfying and rewarding seeing the allotment come back to life 😁

This is how my garden gets, too! I start out with great ambitions and plans, then work and life demands most of my time and attention, leaving very little time to tend my plot. I still charge on, intending to manage it well.😊

Love that! The awesome thing about gardens is that when you've got time for them, there's always some nice little thing to do, but when you don't have time they forgive you 🤣

If I saw it correctly you've got some Horsetail (Equisetum) in the allotment. I'll be interested to see how you tackle that, because it's overrun half of our allotment (before we took it over) and after three years we are still fighting against it, because it will take over any bed and shade all that we plant in it.
Good luck and lot's of fun with resetting your allotment!

I'm sorry to say there is no quick fix. It's an ancient plant that has REALLY deep (2m or 7ft) roots so you will never be able to dig it out completely. The best way to deal with it is constant attrition. Keep hoeing or pulling any bits that emerge and eventually you'll starve the roots below ground. Our whole allotment has it and all the fields around as well (we're in a farming area). Don't bother with any weed sprays or chemicals, just slowly but surely deprive the roots and keep on top of it. I'm sorry it isn't a happier answer, but you CAN reduce the problem over time so much that you hardly get any new shoots. Good luck with it! 🍀

Ah, glad there were still some good things going on in your plot!
I’ve had many a slug-related disaster in my garden! I could not protect my kale from one pest or another to save my life!! My blueberries are also rubbish. Just a few on each bush, quickly nicked by birds! I don’t have a fruit cage, never found I needed one, but perhaps now I do!! 🥴

Thanks! It's SUCH a mess right now, but I'm really looking forward to getting it back to tidy and productive ☺️ And the slugs and snails this year are wild! 🐌🐌🐌🐌
