- Season 5 of the Great British Menu. Competing chefs have to scour the land to unearth the very finest produce, celebrating Britain's home grown food.
The final banquest is hosted by HRH The Prince of Wales, who is a long-time advocate of local, seasonal food, and also serves as the President of the National Trust.
It must be so frustrating as a chef getting judged by people who's knowledge and understanding of food and how it's prepared is far inferieor than theirs
You dont need to be a chef to have a great knowledge of food.
I have tremendous respect for all three judges. Prue has spent a lifetime with a career in food, Forte has eaten in every restaurant worth eating at In the past 20 plus years, and Oliver, amongst other restaurants had Coast, with Steven Terry as his chef, which was a bit of a groundbreaking restaurant back in the day. I don’t think you can get better judges.
Also, if this competition were to be judged by chefs, it would turn into a battle of style and technique (which all the competing chefs try to do by their very nature) instead, these three judges base the scores on the simple enjoyment and indulgence of the dishes, which I honestly feel all the guests at said banquet would appreciate.

@@henryj8363 I am sure you love eating layer after layer of unrendered pork fat, but most people would not! It looks awful and as Olly says 'too much fat'!

Hes a Michelin chef thats been cooking over 30 years he knows what hes doing.
And the judges didnt say anything? And they are all experienced restaurateurs and food critics.
But ok, whatever you say.

What accomplishments do these 3 judges have to judge such successful chefs.
I know the lady had a restaurant which had a 1 Michellin star which she sold off but what the hell.
Stupid TV programme.
Your right they have the priveleage of eating top chefs food and all they do is moan!!.I'm sure Mathew worked in a chip shop in Craven Arms and didn't have a bloody clue how to cook a sausage in batter.
You can judge food without being able to cook to a high level.
