I thought you might find this useful: Introduced in 1896, the Mauser Construktion 96 semiautomatic pistol was chambered for 7.63x25mm aummunition and featured an integral box magazine. The wooden shoulder stock doubled as a holster. Many people know it as the "broomhandle" Mauser. During the war Germany contracted with Mauser for pistols chambered for 9mm ammo to augment the standard 9mm Luger sidearms. Many military units branded a big red "9" in the grips so soldiers would use the right ammunition.
Hey Ohno, good work with the red 9. Height is definitely a factor with the cable car. I had one end at slightly more than 3 1/2 walls high above the ground and the other end had to be 4 1/2 wall heights above ground before it would connect the cable. The cable sags that much. You'll have fun. Look forward to seeing your progress. Stay safe, be well, and you have yourself a better one!
Hi Bosco! Yep, I figure I will need to mess with height quite a bit. The actual location at the cliffside base will be fixed but I will also have to think about the location of the cable car tower at the obsidian mine. That will be another opportunity to work around potential sag issues :) Thank you!
@@OhnoCoho Yep - you're going to want to plan well before putting it in place. I had to move my set up some after thinking I was good, and it was quite the task to just move everything sideways a ways, to not have to build 8-10 stories tall to get the cable to connect. You're also going to need a couple deep cave runs to get enough black crystal to build it all too. Which can also give you plenty of regular crystal, so that you never worry about upgrading weapons all the way again. LOL
The Red 9 is a C96 "Broom Handle " Mauser that was retrofitted to the 9mm parabellum cartridge from the original 7.62x25. They had a 9 carved into the grip that was inlaid red to indicate its conversion.
Happy New Year! For the love of god please put on the winter coat 😂 I enjoyed that stream with Arpeggio and Armoured Annie with that impressive lift and cable car down. Looking forward to what happens with the trees. You are also missing helmet and boots in your locker
Happy New Year! Health and joy for you and your family! The 'issue' with the steel cable and the length appeared when CG reduced the needed materials to establish a connection. When the experimental A65 was released the wire you had to craft was almost the same as the distance of your platforms. Everything was more expensive ;)
Very nice Ohno. Yeah nice incorporation of the elevator to the lift. Gathered 30 wood off the ground in my last gathering session. I like the new addition less tree chopping. Be well Ohno.
Heya Ohno, I've yet to decide whether I like the red 9 pistol... I like the amount of ammo available, but the delicate nature (how quickly it needs to be repaired)... It's a tad too quick for me personally. I like the pistol, but I think Cold Games needs to balance how long it lasts before needing repairs. I know it's quite cheap to repair, but I can imagine early game players would soon run out of materials given how delicate it is. (If they chose to use it as their main weapon). I'm going by what I see with people playing mind. I can't test it myself sadly. I do love the flourish when you pull the pistol out though! 😅👍🏻👌🏻 Thanks for the episode Ohno! And for shouting out Armoured Annie! 🙂👍🏻
I don't think the red 9 is suitable for early game at all. It's a waste of weapon parts at that stage. Until you have an upgraded recurved bow and a double barrel at least (and probably a lever action too), I wouldn't advise making this. And by the time you have all those weapons, plus enough weapon parts to spare them, you're way past early game. I would say this pistol is more of a gimmick for long time players, so they have a new toy 😆. Nothing bad about it, but it would explain why it's so fragile.
Hey Charlene :) I do agree that the red 9 pistol is not the best choice in early game. As Michelle says in the other comment, the recurve and double barrel are much better goals and the red 9 can come later (after the lever action and 44). Thank you!
@OhnoCoho why have such a cheap weapon if it's not meant for early game though? That doesn't seem to add up to me. If I was able to play, having more ammo amounts in each round would be very good in early game (against rogues I mean), even if it does less damage. Also, what's use of it for long term players if it's so weak? If that's the case that it's a gimmicky kinda gun, I'd be a tad annoyed as a player (if I was able to play the game). I get what you are saying, but to my mind, the cheapness would imply early game or at least somewhat early game use for the Red 9. Ah well. We'll agree to disagree. 🙂
I hope you're not going to be so scattered brained all year. lol What's with refusing to wear the winter coat in wintertime but keeping up the Christmas tree past the New Year. lol I do like the sound that the Red 9 pistol makes. Hope you enjoyed your break & had a Merry Christmas & a Happy New Year. Glad to have you back entertaining me with Subsistence again. Have a wonderful day & stay warm.
The best neighbors always know what to bring as gifts when they visit. Nice to see such a tight knit community. Ofc you provide periodic "security tests" to keep your neighbors bases safe in return 😉😛😄
Oh, I do think there are reasons for upgrading. I'm just describing how I personally decide how to upgrade and given weapon. The reduced ammo factor is quite valid. Especially in early-mid game where ammo is a bit more precious. Or, in coop where you have to share ;)
Loved the episode Ohno - I like the Red 9 too, but my fully upgraded M9 is also awesome. I do have to say that ColdGames could make the weapon's condition a little more realistic. I've put thousands of rounds through my EDC and have not needed any kind of repair.... you do have to clean it though - that could be a nice add to the game, if durability was significantly increased. And something that other games don't have. Happy New Year!
Thank you James :) I do plan on doing a full upgrade of the M9 eventually as well. Just need to build some cable cars and mining outposts first ;) Yeah, I do think there is room for improvement with weapon durability as well. What you describe sounds good to me. Happy New Year!
Welcome back!!!!! Hope the holidays were terrific!!! Much work to do in 2025. Cable cars, diving, cave runs, enforcing by-laws, evictions of unwanted neighbors and much more. Yup...going to be a good year.
I'm pretty sure there is definitely a locked crate despawn in the evening. I came across one very close to my base when coming back at the end of the day. I quickly ran in to get a lockpick. Took me less than a minute to get back and it despawned in the meantime. I almost rage quit that day 😆
Hey 👋☺️ there 😊😊 Sweetheart, Great 👌 to see you back!! 😂 In beautiful Subsistence Land 😂. I pray that you had a wonderful Holiday Season with your family & friends, and maybe even got a little bit of rest (which I doubt) 😅 I think I might like that new gun. I love the action when you draw it. 😂😂 You are grrreat !!! Love 💕💕 Yà lots and lots !! ❤❤❤❤❤😂😂😂😂😂🎉🎉🎉😊😊😊😅
I'm not 100% sure either but usually your spawn is set by the last spawn point created or the last spawn point "purchased". I suppose we will see if I die again :)
@@OhnoCoho I just wish i could have my favorite firearm of all time. I have one. It’s a lever action it’s the American calvery 1863 carbine. I like the model 88 that’s in the game now. This firearm could be fired from horse back
In my opinion, this update was really stupid. He put in that pistol just because he likes the looks of it, when we did not need it. The cable car is really useless. He should have put in a crossbow, gave us the headlamp that we've been asking for for a long time. He should have added more building materials and more clothes, things like that, instead of a dumb gun and a worthless cable car.
I can definitely agree that a helmet light would be nice. As for the rest, well, try to remember that this game is a personal project by a single developer. I personally know how hard it is to keep motivated in a long term project like this so am much more forgiving.
Good job on the Red9 training 😁 So many opportunities to swirl that gun around 😂
Thanks for the shout out by the way 😊
LOL! Thank you!
It's the swirl that makes it fun ;)
You are very welcome ;)

Ah, that makes sense regarding the steel cable math. I hadn't thought of that :)
Thank you!
Thank you for coming back I got the red nine I love that pistol in the game lol and mine in life does load that way.
You are very welcome Aaron!
Very nice Ohno. Yeah nice incorporation of the elevator to the lift. Gathered 30 wood off the ground in my last gathering session. I like the new addition less tree chopping. Be well Ohno.

glad youre back good 1 sir thanks

Woo Hoo was Jonesing for some Ohno,, and was like sheesh how much of a holiday break does this cat need 😂
Oh, I need all of the holiday ;)
the reason why i uppgrade my weapons is to save ammo, the higher firepower the lower shots needed to end things :)

Great episode. You should max upgrade your recovery weapon so that when you are retrieving your death bag, you can on shot/kill everything
I do still plan on doing the max upgrade on that one pistol. It's just that the cable car work is going to take quite a few resources ;)
Big job ahead of you on that cable car.
Oh yeah, definitely :)

Take care :)
Welcome back and happy new year!
I'm wondering if the cable conversion is from meters to imperial yards which would be slightly higher per 10 meters
Thank you!
Someone mentioned that it was due to ColdGames reducing the material requirements a bit when the feature was released. It makes sense :)
I got my Christmas tree up. I got mine up in game and also In life. My tree I never take down I got a whole Christmas room in my house.
LOL! Nice :)
I'm not sure, but I just assumed you would always spawn on the old bed as long as it exists because you made it first.
I'm not 100% sure either but usually your spawn is set by the last spawn point created or the last spawn point "purchased".

Best wiches for the new year Ohno !
Thank you Els! I wish you all of the good fortune in the new year as well :)
Ohono I always upgrade every weapon I have anyway
Indeed, I know a few people that like to do max upgrades. I was just explaining my own, personal logic for how far to upgrade things :)
