The entire catalog of Gojira, pronounced Go-Geer-a, is so worth the listen. Personally if i had to reccomend one song it would have to be "The Art of Dying" It is easily one of their cornerstone songs. It is 9 minutes of unadulterated heavy metal, that is just a pleasure to listen to, also worth reading the lyrics. This moment that youve watched here is a special one for metal heads everywhere. Not only did Gojira get to play on a world stage for millions of people to see, this being the olympics, they pulled absolutely no punches. It is a Heavy Chunky Riffy, brutal take on a classic french song from the revolution. The statues holding their own heads are representing Marie Antoinette, and the castle is the Conciergerie which was a residence for the king at one point but became a prison during the revolution, and famously housed Marie Antoinette at some point before she was executed. Besides all of this, Gojira is easily one of the most deserving metal bands out there of this kind of honor and they absolutely showcased why they deserved it. So many people were taken aback by this performance, articles were written in every major news outlet, not about the opening of the olympics but "Who was that band that performed at the olympics". Gojira poor their heart and soul into every single song. You cant pick a song off of any record that does not sound absolutely magnificent, particularly within the context of the record it is on. On a personal note, as cliche as this sounds, as a long time Metal Head, and a HUGE fan of Gojira, this performance brought a tear to my eye. The interesting thing is it was not announced ahead of time more than a few hours prior to the performance. I woke up on the day of the opening ceremony and was scrolling on my phone when an article popped up that said "Gojira Set to Open the olympics" and my jaw dropped, i opened the article and it said nothing of the time, or date of the performance, i immediately started the live stream and kept it going while i was at work, unfortunately i was on the phone when the performance happened and i had to roll it back to see it, but holy shit when i did, the chills that went through my body were amazing. Ill be checking your channel for more Gojira reactions, and keeping an eye out for more metal reactions!
