I'm not a small engine mechanic but, I do fix garden equipment as a hobby. My main "pocket change" are from maintenance. Either, the "customers" have no time, no tools OR interest in maintenance. Hey ! If you have money to throw away, I'm much obliged to accept it.
You either know all the tricks or figure them out quickly. Great Pro Tips, Don. Always Excellent! Thanks for sharing your experience and for all you do for us. I hope your wife and family are OK.
I picked up a big toro snowblower similar to this one at a yardsale for really cheap and everything seems to work great other than shifting gears just like this one. I haven’t dug into it yet but I’m so glad you did this video because I know exactly what I have to do now to get it right!
That's exactly what i discovered yesterday when i did my oil change! The lever was really hard to move. So now I know how to fix this problem, even though I've never been in "the belly of the beast" (new owner of a 2nd hand sb) . And like G.I.Joe always said back in the 80s: So now we know. And knowing is half the battle! Thanks Don!
Hi Don, amazing problem solving skill as always. In this case, if all I have is synthetic grease, can we use it on the hex shaft & wheel axel? Less lubricant to buy 😂
Great video! I'm planning to perform maintenance on my snowblower this week, and I'll definitely clean and lube the drive wheel shaft, chain and whatever else needs attention while I have the rear cover off.
DonnyBoy Consistently provides Highly professional guidance on Any maintenance work that he performs. He correctly diagnosis and then shows you the tricks of the trade. I believe what makes him a stand out is he does it in simple and easy to understand terms and illustrates it by doing it. Simple, direct and correct! He is simply the best on youtube for maintenance of small engines and yard equipment, Including sloth row including snow throwers and just about anything else he works on. Great job again!
Very useful advice. I have this same Toro model, and it has worked very well. In the West, we dont have the same dampness and salt issues as in the East, but your advice is good for any climate. I got my machine used. New ones are so expensive I dont k now why people would ignore such simple maintenance. In my opinion, the owners manual could be better detailed on maintenance info. Thanks
I fixed a Husqvarna last year, the owner decided to force the issue and destroyed the cable mounts in the plastic shroud that holds all the controls. The hexagon shaft for the friction wheel was dry as a bone, as I find on 90% of snow blowers that have never been maintained. The owner ended up with a bigger bill because of lack of maintenance. This happends often. Pay me now, or pay me more later seems to apply here. Good video friend. I always enjoy your videos. I just wish more snowblower owners would watch your videos.
I remember when I first saw that turntable and it was a day for learning something how the snowblower goes forward and in reverse. Cool mechanical engineering
Great video . I mix the wd and dextron here but for a different application . Makes all the plastic black panels tanks wrc.that fade on out on out golf equipment look like new again .
grouse work Donny mate and a simple bit of maintenance like on that Snowblower before the Winter/Flu season kicks in is the right way to go i say and cheers from Australia 🐨🐑🦘🌴to your Area in Canada Ontario 🇨🇦 and i hope your enjoying your Autumn/Fall Season over there too.🍁🍂
Great timing, Dony. I'm going to be servicing that exact machine tomorrow for my neighbour. I was just going to change the oil and check the spark plug. Now I'm going to remove the belly pan and check everything in there.
I'm from Long Island New York. I was wondering, what is the best grease that you would recommend me to use on my Lawnboy 824e snowblower gears and chain?🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔🤷🏿♂️
Dony, would you have any tips in how to repair holes and rips in mower grass catcher bags? They are custom fit for the frame and are EXPENSIVE to replace, and may not still be available for an older model. It doesn't look like you've done a video on this.
I encountered a slightly different scenario with the heck shaft an older MTD machine I was working on. The disc was moving but it was sluggish due to old grease. My symptoms if I had moved to reverse one from any of the forward gears it would continue to go forward. Glad I looked at what was happening when I took the belly pan off. This MTD has a shift rod instead of the adjustable cable they currently use.
What is a snow blower. 😂Just being funny. We don't get enough here to warrant a blower. Great tips anyway. By the way, I worked on an old Scotts self propelled mower that had the same issue.
Don! I learned something new from this video, brake cleaner to clean your disc It's not expensive and i have plenty of it, just never thought of using it on this Thanks
Retreaved an old Toro 5/24. Got the machine running everything working, except it is in need of a new friction disc and any secrets to how to change it on that machine. There is one disc and two friction wheels, forward and one for reverse What to do when wheels are ceased on the axels? Any advice much appreciated,thanks...
Nice, today is the day, to start the blower preseason, change the oil and plug, grease and lubricant everything, better now than when it’s 5 below, and check the condition of the belts.
I have a Cub cadet X2 going on it’s 3rd season here. It has the steering assist. Last year the assist started to not work to good. I thought it might be cause the snow was deep and it might have built up ice which might have caused a problem. While getting it ready for winter I noticed it won’t turn at all. I operated the handles and was able to see the clip rise and fall and the gears turn while tipped up. Any suggestions?
Don, I've been a member of your channel for years but I don't remember you ever addressing the different sizes of fuel lines and the different types and when to use each. I live an hour away from town so keeping fuel line on hand would be a smart thing, but what to buy? I was hoping you might do a segment on this or tell me where I can find the information.
Hi could you let us know what years engines you are working on like these snow blowers what might be good snow blowers or what to look for when buying a used snowblower thanks again love your videos making parts on a lathe awesome Kyle 👍👍👍👍👍
It's getting so most, if not all the blowers I work on that bottom cover has never been removed. It's wonder thing last as long as they do with all the neglect with these blowers. My 35 year old blower is in better shape then most of the newer machines that I work on.
Yes ive been doing this service every year since i have owned my Ariens 1027LE it operates as well as the day i brought it home in 2015..this is great advice Donny is giving us.
My daughter has this same model. The quick stick will not rotate the shoot. However, the shoot will pivot up & down. I need to do some surgery to fix the problem. It's also surging real bad. Time to clean or replace the carb. ☹Snow is already falling ! ❄❄
I have done that before on my snowblower, but never have taken off the wheels. I do agree to take them off and lube. Curious why you took the wheels off?
Have been doing that to my snowblower since I bought it many years ago, still running trouble free. I oiled the wheel shafts instead of using anti seize. Is there any advantage to using the antisieze?

Great video as always Dony! Very helpful to all those that own Snow Blowers. Your channel is Top Notch! Thanks for all you do!
There is not enough time in the day for you to provide such cognitive information. God bless you donyboy73!

Grease is the snowblower best friend
Also can be it's worse enemy depending where it's put lol

the word “ maintenance “ is so incomprehensible this day , much appreciated for dony shows what the common sense is all about !

This is not a problem for me but we don’t use snow blower’s here in Florida and love your videos keep them coming 👍

The best. learned alot from your videos.
Thanks again.
Thanks, Dony! I always look forward to your videos and learn a lot too.
Great job there Donnie on posting this video on keeping the shift parts well lubricated
very informative. Thank you brother 👍

It’s a good idea to sand those shafts then do the anti seize
Excellent once more

Great video, I did that to my Ariens snowblower, but I had a massive mouse nest under there
The Mice will sublet it to Ground Squirrels..I'm the Summer..as air B& B

Hi there , I have a older model craftsman snowblower 8/27 how do you get the drive chain back on to the sprocket? Mine fell off
The machine spit out a crimped carter pin??? Shortly after it won’t engage in hear??? Ant idea?

Hi Don what happened to Dave
What else can be substituted for brake cleaner if you don’t have any on hand ? Thanks.
Carb cleaner but be careful as it is flammable

Thanks for this great video. I did this with my snowblower last winter when I replaced two end bearings and the drive axel......Take care, Bluefin.

Thanks Don, not sure I will ever be in need of a snow blower here in Queensland. But I just love the video's, keep bringing them out. Cheers

Merci Don, mon "nouveau" souffleur Yardman 1981 a connu l'huile et l'antirouille depuis les 30 dernieres années! Bonne semaine.
I use a spray high pressure moly lube for hoist cables works nice stays put only thing is it has to dry for 24 hrs before ise.
Thanks Don, good video. It still amazes me people don't look after their machines.
I use o old tooth brush when putting the grease on the axle
I used my wife's toothbrush and now she's not talking to me.😂
You’ve saved me a lot money with your diy tips. Thanks!
I have done that before on my snowblower, but never have taken off the wheels. I do agree to take them off and lube. Curious why you took the wheels off?
He took them off so he could get to side bolts on cover easier and also to lube shafts
@@gaylordwilliams7482 thanks, j do the same for lubing but never had to for just the belly pan.
